is the bold that much better? 9/9/2008 10:48:34 AM |
krs3g All American 1499 Posts user info edit post |
I just got the Curve a few months ago, I can't see upgrading to the bold anytime soon. Yeah the screen is nice and all that jazz, but I can't justify the extra cost bulkiness just for wifi, the data plan with Sprint is unlimited anyway, and I'm very rarely in an area where I don't get reception.
On an unrelated note, any of you guys ever try the opera mini browser? how does it compare to the stock BB browser? 9/9/2008 11:36:05 AM |
nothing22 All American 21537 Posts user info edit post |
i like the opera mini browser more than the stock 4.2 version- the stock 4.5 version has some improvements but that's another issue
i like opera a lot for general browsing. it makes the internet look more like the internet. what sucks about it is when using gmail, the program is kinda lame when saving and uploading files of your media card asking permission each time you see a new subfolder or file every step of the way
there doesn't seem to be a way to paste into the address bar
picture-heavy pages kinda stop around 215kb at the highest image quality setting
and even with 4.5 os, you can't see youtube videos with it- this will probably been updated after 4.1 opera hopefully
i have to use a triad mix of ramble, bb stock browser, and opera mini to enjoy the internets. but all in all, you should definitely pick up opera mini 9/9/2008 12:33:57 PM |

question for people with an 8830 and Sprint
do you have issues opening picture/graphic attachments? This phone will open word, excel, ppt, pdf documents, but it only shows the text (ie 1,000 word word doc with a clipart image...the 1,000 words show up, the clipart doesnt)...JPG images dont even go through at all...if a PDF is 3 pages of graphics and no text, all you see is the page dividers...Sprint says this is an issue with how RIM made their phones to handle attachments (I emailed an attachment test with DOC/XLS/PPT/PDF/JPG/MP3/MP4 to this Sprint phone and also an identical phone on the Verizon network)...the Verizon phone opens all attachments and shows all graphics...Sprint phone doesnt even show the JPG/MP3/MP4 attachments, and only opens text in others like I mentioned
Anyone else have this problem? Any idea about handheld OS or firmware upgrades? Any free 3rd party viewers that you could recommend? our BES server is setup to allow all attachments with no file size so I don't think thats it...help? 9/16/2008 11:48:38 AM |

OK I am at my wits end with this BES shit.
I have a hosted exchange account from mailstreet with the BES add on. The original activation went flawlessly and it was working fine for like two weeks. One day I am playing with my phone and it power cycles. (blank screen, hourglass, boots back up fine)
I realized that afternoon that my exchange e-mail account was not working on the BB, then I realized that nothing was synchronizing.
For the last week I have been walked through the same thing by tech support at mailstreet. They keep telling me how to activate, let it wait four hours, etc. I get an error message that "The Server is not responding please contact your system administrator"
I have been told to wipe my phone (done this at least three times) the same thing happens.
Mailstreet has told me Sprint has them blocked, Sprint says there is no way they could have it blocked. I even added the BES feature to make sure it would work (did not have this originally).
Last night we had a three way call that lasted close to an hour, they deleted and re-added me to the blackberry enterprise server, I started activation again, after wiping the phone again, and was told to wait four hours......
same results
I do not even know what company is at fault I keep getting tossed back and forth. 9/16/2008 9:39:24 PM |

I have a curve with Alltel service and for some reason, every appointment I have shows up as being from my gmail calendar, which I have never set up. This problem has been occurring for a while now, however, on a side-note, we switched last week from Novell Groupwise to Microsoft Exchange. My calendar syncs OTA with my phone perfectly, but it shows up as the gmail calendar. Why the hell is this happening? 9/21/2008 9:39:08 PM |

How much does your carrier change you for Media/Internet access and email and text?
We just got a Blackberry and Att is charging $35 for the mediamax and 200 txt messages. Just curious if others are spending about the same price?
Is it worth it? We just got it and haven't had a chance to use it and test it out. 9/30/2008 2:40:27 PM |

Im serious with this question. My 8703 click wheel stopped halfway working this weekend. Basically I can still scroll up and down but when I press to "click" the wheel is somewhat alread ydepressed and is not "clicking". I figure I need to get it fixed but until then, is there a shortcut that takes the place of this click on the keyboard?
The ENTER button does not give full functionality of the click wheel either. 10/7/2008 1:16:04 PM |

what's up with all the videos?
my questions:
1.) within "messages" it's slow as hell (I can type a full text message before the damn thing fully loads). I've tried clearing the messages out. Didn't really help. no recent s/w or h/w changes.
2.) whenever I save changes in address book, my bb freezes, completely. I have to remove the battery to reset it.
3.) ball won't always scroll up. it will scrow l/r & down, but up it doesn't. the ball turns, but it feels really smooth (doesn't click like it does in other directions). I took it apart but couldn't get anything from that. 10/14/2008 3:41:15 PM |

Ok, i have an old Sprint Sero plan (500 minutes, unlimited data and text for $30/month). I really like the form factor of the 8330 compared to my Treo, but do not want to double my monthly bill to add the BIS (and I really have no use for push email anyway).
What apps on the Blackberry do not work without the BIS plan? Was doing some research online and I guess there is a hack that allows you to use the Blackberry browser, but is there anything else that I would be missing out on? 10/22/2008 9:57:24 AM |

Not sure if I asked this. Is it possible to use a Blackberry Curve as a PDA to synch your Calendar, Contacts, tasks, etc without connecting to the internet?
My wife got a BB Curve but I don't know if she can synch with her work using the BIS/BES (Not sure if I am using the terminology correctly). They are using Novell Groupwise and are pretty tight with security.
If there is a way to synch it could you briefly explain the steps or point us in the right direction. Thanks for the help. 10/24/2008 7:46:29 PM |

Free Phone-as-modem explained below. I'm not the author of the post and don't have any experience with it outside of the sprint network. ---- Now granted this is a hack, and probably breaks your TERMS OF SERVICE with your service provider - so use with caution. I just wanted to help those that don't wanna pay those higher data fees. This is try at your own risk. if you have any questions I will help as much as I can. Send me a pm, pin me or email me. Ssjason@crackberryaddicted.com
Will your provider find out? Probably not. Its really no different from downloading files from a P2P site such as limewire, frostwire, bearshare, etc.
• Start your BlackBerry Desktop Manager and it should be running in the background. there is no need to click on any options. just open it. This is required to use BlackBerry as an external modem.
