man my brother and I got on a roll as a heavy/medic combo...i was the heavy and wound up in three cap out rounds on granary with 40+kills and only 6 deaths...all three times we capped the final spot with a well-timed uber to take out a handful of heavies and turrets defending them...good times indeed

sure thing - I'll accept the invite whenever it come on. Right now, in addition to my brother, I'm playing with some clan guys that I've played Guild Wars, Spearhead, and Civ IV a lot over the last 2 1/2 years. We've been putting in a good 4+ hours the last few nights.

hell, it'll be like Napalm Dawn all over again

Played this map called lazytown. Map makes the sniper completely overpowered. I had like a score of 138. Good map, but now I see why the default maps are so short and don't allow for long distances.

^^ The terrible thing about that map is that unlike the Valve CP maps, the last CP does not have a really short capture time. It's just as long as the other points, and the respawn is right there, so it's impossible to get.

^^^We got it after about an hour of back and forth by coordinating our efforts to make a huge push right as half there team was dead. And the fact that I was killing 25% of the team being a sniper.

yeah, I hate the custom maps servers

valve spent some much time designing and balancing their maps and it really does show.

the custom maps I've played on tend to have hallways that a really tiny, like, barely big enough to stand in, let alone jump

that means scouts get pwns and soldiers have so much more to shoot at

This game in general pisses me off, I feel completely gimped as a sniper. I have to zoom and have no grenades, I can't fucking defend myself. The hitboxes seem a little less forgiving than TFC.

I guess I'm just used to dominating everything in TFC as a sniper, now I just get my shit pushed in.

Custom maps will get better. The SDK hasn't even been released yet. The reason TFC lasted like it did was because of the custom map community, and I feel confident that a lot of those mappers will come out of the woodwork for TF2 once the SDK comes out.

play the map "lazytown" if you think snipers are nerfed

I'm amazed at the level of balance so far.

I don't really think snipers are nerfed, it's just they are very different from snipers in TFC. Besides the change to the charging mechanic, in TFC snipers could operate very autonomously and a good sniper could take a very offensive role if they wanted to. Now, snipers really are relegated to hanging around out of harms way and picking people off from the outskirts of the battle. This often leaves you feeling pretty useless, especially if the majority of the fighting is taking place in areas you can't easily overlook with your rifle. It's just a big difference from the TFC snipers, who in the right hands, could contribute in almost any situation.

Sniper was my middle name in TFC. The only servers I would play on would be sniper related maps. I miss the old school charging mechanics. I could take on whole teams from a distance.

Now in TF2, it's a little more balanced. Can't be as dominant with sniper anymore.

P.S. Although, I can say that the spy is MUCH improved over the TFC spy. It was pretty hard to go as spy in TFC. I do miss the oldschool faint move.

Yeah, I used to be a one man army as a sniper in TFC.

In the new 2fort, snipers might as well be playing a different game vs each other with that covered bridge. Sure, you get the occasional spy or scout running across the top, but mostly it's sniper vs sniper. You drop your guard to snipe a guy on the ground, another sniper pops you. They don't even cap the flags on the roof anymore.

I remember when I could prevent a flag cap just by sniping their carriers on THEIR roof. OH THE MEMORIES.

Honestly I'd be happy if they just added 2 levels of zoom, like the awp in cs. I despise the high power zoom the way it is.

I'd be happy with just a crosshair when you're not zoomed in, so I can at least pop people without having to zoom.

no you tard, I'm talking about 2 zoom options

maybe let the weaker zoom only do 50-75% max, with the higher as full 100

where are there sightlines that could possibly need that much of a zoom? it's not like the thing doesn't one-shot-kill with a hit pretty much anywhere on the body as long as it's fully charged up

oh, and fuck any douche who goes sniper on the attacking team on a conquest map...biggest waste of a player slot ever

If you had a reticle when not scoped, the sniper would dominate. As it is, it is still pretty easy to no scope, just a bit harder to get the one shot kill no scoped.

^^See, that's again a big difference between TFC and TF2 snipers. In TFC, offensive snipers could dominate conquest maps. They were the ultimate turret busters.

yeah, and in TF2 they actually balanced out the classes better. since when is a sniper ever used in an offensive role? the ultimate turret killer is not the Spy...a sniper can play a support role in that by picking off a nearby engineer, and if they have a line of sight, they can still do plenty of damage to the turret. but when you're charging into a house where you know a turret is going to be hidden from the outside, a sniper is completely worthless

I've seen a sniper be used offensively on conquest maps a few times.

Counter-sniping and taking out turrets. Often you can see only a little of the turret and hit it when it can't hit you.

In Dustbowl for example.

I'm not saying it's useless, but when your team of 12 consists of 3 pyros, 4 snipers, 3 spy's, 1 medic and 1 soldier on dustbowl, you know you're playing with some morons

no, that just means you are playing with n00bs. after a few months, people will start to learn wtf they are doing and you wont see 9 spies and snipers on a team. sniper is the easiest to get a kill with.

meh, stage 1 sentry gun against 6 scouts that have the slightest clue what they are doing is toast. couple scatter gun blasts and it is gone. It can't shoot them all at once.

My team did a 7 scout rush on granary last night and capped all three in about a minute.

that's like saying "I've decided that winning the jackpot is better than having someone take a dump on my chest"

I mean, if you're really into that shit, then yeah, Halo 3 is going to rock your socks off. But for the other 99% of us, well, we'd rather have the cash

only three more achievements to go (PC) - friends like these, impossible defense, and head of the class

I am sorry I respect console games but as a college student I do not want to shell out $200 every year or two so my computer can run the latest games or $800 for a new computer all out.

I use my computer for music, internet, school. Bought an XBox for my gaming.

you could build a computer that runs the Orange Box just fine for the cost of a 360...seriously when I bought HL2, a 9800 was plenty of graphics processing for that game

Bought my computer over four years ago and it runs it quite well. A gaming console bought 4 years ago, on the other hand, would be well out of date.

sentry kills isn't too hard to get...set up as defense on one of the maps where blu has to push and red defends. get in a nice spot where people can't see the sentry until they're right up on it and wedge yourself between it and a dispenser...hammer away with your wrench and hope to stay alive

think my record for kills with a sentry is something like 15

Yeah that's total bs, games using the Source engine do not require steep system requirements AT ALL. Now if you want intensely perfect graphics yeah you'll want a good rig but honestly my roommate can run TF2 on his 2.5 year old LAPTOP. And I could run Half-Life 2 just fine on my desktop that had an Athlon XP 2100, 1 gb ram, and a GeForce 4000 series card. And these days, those parts are barely worth anything at all, if you could find them even...
