CURRENT EP/WEEK SPOILER

this is basically my feelings on season 5 as well, writ much more eloquently:

Quote :
"The serial killer thing is something different. I wasn’t for the drawn-out evidence tampering, mostly because it was silly and boring. But in its present form, the killer is a virus turning bureaucracy on itself. The police department—and, on a parallel course, the information industry that Templeton’s manipulating—now belong to outsiders. If it’s been mute and confusing all along, why not use these perplexing qualities toward rightness and justice? Jimmy has spent this whole show as the rebel, the outcast. Now, as he himself intoned in #57, he’s the boss. Templeton’s along these same lines, minus the decency part: He’s a self-serving liar who wants out of Baltimore; he’s found a way to get the editors, who represent the feckless modern media, to basically bankroll his exodus.

The key difference is that Templeton’s irredeemable, while Jimmy’s arguably serving the greater good. But they both have their all-too-noble foils: Gus and Bunk, who, not coincidentally, are being touted by everyone as the season’s finest performances. I guess I can see it; however, it seems more like we respect the sheer gravitas of their positions, which we once thought Freamon stood for.

I kind of find this outlook naive, and if anything, it’s the possibility of Bunk breaking the Marlo case that I find unrealistic. Or Gus having some sort of journalistic triumph that slaughters Templeton and puts the higher-ups to shame. It’s like, okay, these are honest men doing honest work and they’ve come through in the end. But what about The Wire up to this point would suggest this is anything less than fantasy? You might think McNulty and Templeton are outlandish, but their story arcs at least work with/within/in the same realm as The System. We’ve seen McNulty go from utterly defiant to co-opting the Department that he once battled against. Bunk, he’s just acting like there’s no external pressure or stress on his hermetically-sealed need to do things the right way."

SPOILER ALERT FOR EP 8

although i didnt want it to happen, omar had to die when you think about the framework of the wire in the systems versus rebels aspect

i never saw omar as that type of character but of course that's exactly what he was

SPOILER FOR 8

as soon as the camera stayed on that little kid, you knew he was in for something, but i didnt expect that shit (ps fucking sadist little kids trying to set a cat on fire)

the fbi guy describing mcnulty was great

what was the deal at the end with switching the tags? just to show a closeup of mr little in the bag?

SPOILER FOR 8

i think the coroner was laughing at how dumb somebody was for getting the wrong tags but i dunno...great episode...looks like kima might be the one to blow up the spot on mcnulty's serial killer but it also looks like they're about to make a big bust up of marlo's people so maybe solving all those vacant murders will help carcetti's anti-crime campaign enough to give mcnulty some kind of pass

SPOILER OVER

ps: Clay Davis says "Sheeeeeeeeeit" in this episode

SPOILER

I think the significance of the last scene was to show how insignificant Omar was.. from the streets perspective, he was an icon. yet his death doesn't even make the news, and his body almost goes into the grave under the name of an old white guy. He was no longer even a threat on the streets, hobbling around like that, all someone had to do was walk up to him and shoot him, and that's what happened. he was just a part of the game.

SPOILER

I do have to add that the way they shot that scene was brilliant.. The lingering shot on Kennard holding the cat was pretty obvious foreshadowing, especially if you tie it in with his line from episode 7 ("gimpy ass motherfucker") or something like that.. the scene where Omar was shaking down the stash house was really tense, i thought he was gonna get shot there. really intense shit... and then his actual death scene, he had a really upset/beaten look on his face when he got shot.. just all around great TV

also, did anyone else think Syndor was about to get shot in the scene where he figures out the clock code?

well since they don't show the eps in HD, there is really no good reason not to watch the eps on demand. i would agree with you for the people posting shit about eps not even on 'on demand' yet. But personally, i'm too excited to watch the eps to wait a week and i respect the show enough that i dont want to torrent it.

for the most part i think people have done a good job posting some blank space before and after spoilers...on sunday nights after the ep premieres on hbo and the next ep is not yet on demand, everybody is pretty much on the same page...but if you dont want to see spoilers, just squint your eyes when you're scrolling through the thread or something...you know there are going to be spoilers posted every week between mo-tu and sat-sun so dont read everything in the whole thread

anyone else notice how omar sshowed out with so much emotion in his voice when he took the last stash? after that i just new he wasnt going to be around much longer. just like how bodie got upset and kicked the windows out of the squad car, you knew that was it. and they both end up catching one in the head from a lil hopper.

i think that mcnulty has a back door escape to the mess he has created, but he may not see it yet.

1. bunk's discovery that the CSI lab is so fucked up could be used to create a link to the other stanfield bodies, say finding chris or snoops dna on a dead homeless. longshot there i think though with the way they are looking at it now, FBI profile and all.

2. nothing else happens, carcetti restores normal police funding and the homeless killing case falls out of the focus of the city when bunk's work brings down chris partlow and his (at least) 26 murders. carcetti loves this as the rise in solved homicides even after the police cutbacks is fuel for his govenor campaign. trouble is, to really catch enough attention chris will need to talk or snoop will need to roll on chris, or both of them snitch out marlo and the whole thing comes down. not likely, they dont seem the type. lucky for us though, cheese seems like he would give up the whole lot of them, right up to marlo and everybody for witness protectoion... i predict the "greeks" escaping scot free again though............. where this scenario leaves the the lester storyline up in the air though which wouldnt be like simon at all, he fucking loves lester.

3. ???
