Tickets should be in folks' lockers Monday night -- the actual assigning of tickets to ticket/Unity ID lockers gets done by Athletics, and the people handling that won't be in until the regular work week

I'm taking notes on all the suggestions for improvements in this thread, but if any of you have time and don't mind I'd appreciate if you could shoot an email to ssp@ncsu.edu with your comments also

Some of the issues we knew would be a problem from having to improvise at the last minute (e.g. we had to change the checkin procedure on the fly b/c the mobile AllCampus card readers weren't working properly) but make sure to give us all your issues and we'll get them fixed for next year

they were right next door to me. rather annoying. kinda got tired of getting hit by footballs and soccer balls also.. if you can't catch a football 90% of the time it's thrown to you, you shouldn't have your game of catch in the middle of a group of tents.

overall i think it went fairly well considering the number of people involved.

have they figured out how many people/groups didn't show up at all? i figured that cutting 300 or so people shouldn't be that much of a problem.

I don't know the answer to that question myself, I'll see if I can find out

---

DoeoJ: I don't remember the exact number but at least 350+ never showed by the 2-3am checkpoint, and that didn't count groups thrown out by Campus Police. Whatever number of tickets were available, we were 38 under that for eligible campers at 3am

TGD: Thanks for keeping us all up to date, man. My big gripe was size. My nine-person group only had enough room for a 2-person sleeper tent and some tailgate chairs. The groups who shared our corner decided early on to block most of the pathway, so we couldn't move out any. Couldn't put out the 5-person tent, which would have came in really handy like it did two years ago. Ah well...

a group of about 20 of us that go to EVERY NC STATE basketball game won't even be at the duke game for spring break. I also know plenty of more regulars who will be on the same trip as us as well. Doubt there is need for a campout.

haha yeah I changed Spring Break plans to be there but I'm thinking I'll be one of the few -- I'm hoping we can take this pattern of playing decently in the first half and extending it to the last 15 minutes, maybe we can put a loss on Duke's ACC record... ::crosses fingers::

"jamz0r: Is there going to be another campout for Duke?"

As of now, no. A big part of that is scheduling and Athletics' expectation that there won't be that many students at the game b/c of Spring Break (and although no one will admit it, I think some of the coalition of folks that put this Campout together are a little burned out following the 11th-hour screwjob attempted by the Student Body President and the flurry of late-night contingency planning that ensued)

If we end up having another game in Reynolds before the end of the year (NIT or whatever), we *will* have a Campout for that game though

^That seems like a bad idea to just assume that you won't get too many sign ups. I was told that they had set caps in previous years for campout.

seemed to go pretty well to me, except for the stupid motherfuckers playing "football" by my tent. I can't count how many fucking times they hit my tent. They literally played from 9 pm to 5:30 am.

The whole fucking field was silent except for these 8 dudes completely sucking at throwing a ball.

It was a combination of both. We've been working on the registration software to try and make it more versatile for future years, and somewhere in the midst of tweaking it the auto-cap was removed and the webmaster accidentally set the registration window until 11:59:59pm on the last night instead of hours earlier (letting about a dozen groups register when they shouldn't have)

But if anyone tells you they expected us to get anywhere near 3,200+ people signed up for Campout, they're lying to you

TGD, it seems like you're pretty familiar with the online system. I've always wondered if it cycles through winning groups and assigns them a random ticket block, or the other way around.

I ask this because I think it'd be best if the better seats were distributed first, to ensure that there aren't empty seats around the court. I know you have to know how many seats a group would need before you can assign them a block of tickets, but it should be possible to randomly select a group from the winning groups and then assign them the "best" block of tickets available and continue on in that manner, if that makes sense.

Otherwise you may end up with a bunch of students in the 300 level and a bunch of empty seats around the court.

Agreed

ncWOLFsu: from what I've been told by Athletics, that's supposed to be how the system works now for all games -- if you looked at it visually, they start with the rows/seats closest to the court and go in an outward spiral around and up the arena.

We just seem to have this recurring problem where people in the 300s show up to the games while the people courtside don't, and arena staff won't let you change seats even if it's obvious no one is going to show...

Well how about investing in some sort of kiosks that assign tickets at the game. Would work like this:

-Athletics sets aside a certain # of tickets for a game
-Request and claim period the same as now except it just assigns you a ticket for entry
-Show up to game and get in with your ticket
-Have barcode scanner on kiosk that scans your ticket or the tickets of everyone you want to sit with
-Printer on kiosk then spits out tickets with seat #'s

Or better yet . . . just do everything by all-campus card scanners and eliminate paper all together. But that would require wireless scanners at the top of the concourse and down at the floor and be extra expense and probably added time over just glancing at a # on a piece of paper.

The main problem I see would be the system having to process a large volume (probably better than 75%) in the 20 min or so right before tip-off. But this would essentially make it first come, first served so I would think it would encourage people to get their earlier and somewhat spread out the usage.

well that may be how they're initially awarded, but i know for a fact that the on demand system just cycles through the available seats. i've been assigned 300 level for every game this year, and i always know that there are 100 levels available so i cancel my ticket and keep getting a new one on-demand. it cycles me through the seats, and i've often gone through entire rows in the 300 level 1 seat at a time and then eventually i'll get a 100 level seat. i've been able to do this for every game, and i can usually get tickets in the same section in the 100 level if i'm with a group.

the on-demand system should award tickets the same way the regular system does, giving out the best seats first and leaving the 300 level last. this would also help you get tickets near friends in on-demand if you request them around the same time.

and i agree about the CSC department. something like this really wouldnt be that hard.

^it doesnt have to even get that complicated. the on-demand period could just be extended until a couple hours before gametime and if the best seats were rewarded first then you shouldnt see so many empty seats near the court with packed 300 level sections.

Damn, seriously? I never noticed that.

I'll talk with Jay Dawkins and see if that's something that could hopefully get changed. That's a ridiculously easy thing to fix, would only need to re-write one line of code (having a search loop always start at 0 instead of the last increment)

I just posted an update for the homepage, but also wanted to add - tickets are being processed by athletics now, but will take until Friday to finish putting 2800 tickets in lockers.

I'll get an email out tonight sending an email to everyone who's getting a ticket, now that the list is finalized. Generally if you hit a checkpoint and your group didn't screw up their checkout you were good to go. That and if you didn't pass out near the police (happened).

We'll post to students.ncsu.edu if anything changes.

**Also, I don't think there are plans to do a campout for Duke tickets, but I think there are lots of people who'd be down for one if we have another Reynolds game. Anyone heard anything about another men's bball in Reynolds this season?
