^^ miami seemed to be getting screwed by the refs for a good bit in the second half, but they were surprisingly fair down the stretch. Don't think the fix was in, just more incompetency on the reffing scene. A Calipari team with John Wall playing PG shooting a ton more FTs than a midmajor that was was unreal from 3 should happen every time. If it was closer something would be wrong...
Not that this game wouldve mattered if they lost, but I dont see this UK team actually winning anything (except maybe the SEC since it's barely even a step up from CUSA). They're just too young and undisciplined. At Memphis Cal usually had some 24 year olds that transferred in from JUCOs surrounding his super recruits. At UK he has Patrick Patterson...who took the ball on a fast break at a crucial part of the game and committed a charge.

Quote : | "Cal's arena has a ridiculously high roof and is a huge building for it's capacity. I went to the Arizona State - Cal game last year (it was total coincidence since my parents bought tix and I went with them) and the Oregon-Cal game a few years before -- when they had Chris Rock playing -- and it gets very loud." |
Well I think some of that can be attributed to Haas Pavilion's metal roof which obviously is a material that can reverberate sound very well. It's still not that high of a building though, especially when you consider it with Mizzou Arena's roof. Plus Haas Pavilion has a capacity that is fairly close to Pitt's, but is still a smaller sized arena. Haas Pavilion and Maples Pavilion are probably the best home courts in the Pac-10, followed closely by McArthur Court at Oregon, McKale Center at Arizona, and Hec Edmunson Pavilion at Washington. The Pac-10 has a lot of good old gyms, but no massive arenas like a lot of the other conferences.11/16/2009 9:34:32 PM |

lol at these announcers saying "USF looks like they will win this game over a very good Virginia team out of the ACC." Virginia hasn't been a good team since Reynolds was there.
well I know that USF got that Gilchrist guy that was originally supposed to go to Maryland.
UVA - 49 (damn they didn't even hit the 50 point mark) USF - 66 Final

UConn looks like asshole so far this season. But they are playing four freshman big minutes (Oriakhi, Coombs-McDaniel, Trice and Smith)... Still, so disjointed on offense.
They STILL won't be able to get the five star recruit from last year, Ater Majok, in uniform until December...

One of the first "big" games is happening tomorrow night. Memphis faces #1 Kansas Tuesday night at 10 pm on ESPN. I expect Kansas to win fairly easily, but we'll at least see how good of a coach Josh Pastner might be and if Memphis will still dominate C-USA.
Here's an interview with Pastner. It's pretty funny how he got the job. He didn't even really interview for it. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4660287&categoryid=2378529 11/16/2009 10:38:34 PM |

ESPN is probably paying these teams a lot of money to play such early games. Hell when I played travel ice hockey I'd play two games on Saturday and one on Sunday and those first games would sometimes be at 5 am. 11/17/2009 12:32:22 AM |

the real team you should be ridiculing is Clemson for playing at 10am as a major conf. school

Duke looks REALLY GOOD... but they seem to do this every year the past five or so. They look, by far, like the best team in the country in these games that they are supposed to win while other top ranked teams struggle and play tight against teams they should roll...
Then the second Duke plays a highly skilled and athletic team they lose it and look really slow... I haven't seen a more impressive half so far this year but I still wouldn't put money on them to beat UConn, who has struggled mightily in the first two games, next week...

^ I was thinking Duke was looking REAL good as well. Hard to tell for certain, but a guess after watching a couple games they are better than last year. 11/17/2009 6:39:26 PM |

Their players follow a gameplan perfectly. I think that is the reason they always look so great against these teams. Their guys never lose focus like other top teams do against lesser opponents. That's a credit to K.
But over the course of the season, the better athletic teams get better while Duke seems to stagnate. They might actually catch UConn and whatever other good teams who they play at a good time before those teams peak..
** well, you can pretty much forget about Zoubek or Thomas doing what they do against these teams against a real frontline... I shudder to think what Ed Davis will do to random white guy Duke throws on him this year.

should be duke vs. the fighting Herbs this weekend if ASU can beat TCU
Nolan Smith is the key to Duke's success this season.. he's got 16 pts 5 rebs 4 assists in the first half and looks confident
and i still don't think there's a worse Division 1 player than Zoubek, or an uglier player than Ryan Kelly
I do think Duke is the best team in the ACC this year, with Clemson second.

It's probably because its so early and teams haven't practiced much yet but it seems like the skill of the teams this year just aren't as good as last year, there are a couple elite teams (texas, duke, kansas, villanova etc) and then just a bunch of above average teams, I'm just going off of the games I've seen thus far and the scores of games played though

i noticed this really early in cfb this year too. after a couple weeks it was obvious you had uf, alabama, texas and then a bunch of scrubs. and even those top 3 were weaker than most years top 3
while I'm not ready to write off this basketball season just yet, I cant disagree with you. A lot of sloppiness and mediocre talent on the "good" teams this year11/17/2009 10:14:40 PM |

Hell if Memphis had just shot a little better they would have won this game. Memphis will likely run train on C-USA again this season. It's funny hearing Bill Self saying that his team didn't shoot that well, yet they still shot better than Memphis. At the end of the first half the shooting percentages were something like 31% for Memphis and 44% for KU. 11/18/2009 12:23:02 AM |

Would be the Big East's first loss this year... and one that should never happen.
