Let me amend my prior post because just today this came out and it's HUGE

Quote :
"ESPN has acquired the TV rights to two of the weekly Premier League slots on US television for the 2009-2010 season. Beginning on August 15, 2009, each week ESPN will feature the 7:45am ET Saturday game and the 3pm ET Monday game.

Those two weekly timeslots were previously held by Setanta Sports who in the past had sub-licensed those games from Fox Soccer Channel. Despite Setanta losing the two timeslots to ESPN, Setanta US will continue showing the two 10am ET Saturday slots (one game on Setanta US, and the other on Setanta Xtra), as well as the early Sunday morning ET kickoffs and the Tuesday and Wednesday midweek Premier League matches. The games shown by Setanta will also be available on its broadband package at http://www.setanta-i.com

ESPN’s acquisition of the early Saturday morning kickoff and Monday afternoon matches are a massive coup for the Disney-owned company who have significantly increased its soccer coverage recently. ESPN has yet to make a formal announcement regarding the acquisition of the Premier League TV rights (the two timeslots), but will presumably show the games on both ESPN2 and ESPN360.

Here are what games we know for certain that will be shown on ESPN2 between August 15 and November 21 (schedules are subject to change):

Saturday, August 15:

* Chelsea v Hull City, 7:45am, ESPN2

Monday, August 24:

* Liverpool v Aston Villa, 3pm, ESPN2

Saturday, August 29:

* Chelsea v Burnley, 7:45am, ESPN2

Saturday, September 19:

* Burnley v Sunderland, 7:45am, ESPN2

Saturday, September 26:

* Portsmouth v Everton, 7:45am, ESPN2

Monday, September 28:

* Manchester City v West Ham United, ESPN2

Monday, October 5:

* Aston Villa v Manchester City, 3pm, ESPN2

Saturday, October 17:

* Aston Villa v Chelsea, 7:45am, ESPN2

Monday, October 19:

* Fulham v Hull City, 3pm, ESPN2

Saturday, October 24:

* Wolves v Aston Villa, 7:45am, ESPN2

Saturday, October 31:

* Arsenal v Tottenham, 6:45am, ESPN2

Monday, November 9:

* Liverpool v Birmingham City, 3pm, ESPN2

Saturday, November 21:

* Liverpool v Manchester City, 7:45am, ESPN2

Note: For those Saturday mornings when there isn’t a 7:45am ET game available, ESPN will have first choice of the Saturday 10am game from Setanta Sports."

awesome, that's pretty good coverage all things considered.

I have DirecTV with both FSC and Setanta, but i swear when EPL games were on the channel was blacked out. Can anyone confirm this and do I have to change something to get these games to come through?

and where do you guys purchase most of your team apparel? i see the espn soccernet store is pretty loaded, anywhere else?

^^ If you're a fan of a big name team, you can go through the soccernet store or some other similar site. If you're a fan of a smaller team you're probably going to have to go through their own shop listed on the team website. I've purchased my jerseys in the past through the official team store on their own site. You know what you're going to get and you can generally customize it how you want and know it'll be the real thing. You can go the Ebay route and get some cheapo from Thailand, but it will look like shit if you ever get it. I went tried to buy one through there one time a few years back because it all appeared legit and it had all of the badges and such I wanted on the jersey. I paid, and it never came. Ebay said there wasn't shit they could do about it, but thankfully I dropped less than 20 on it, I can't remember how much exactly.

I got one of those cheapo ones from Ebay because I just felt like rolling the dice. It's perfect. No difference from the real thing in look or feel. I suspect though that if I ever wash it it will fall apart, so I'm going to avoid doing that.

In the future though I am only going to buy from official sources, because I feel guilty every time I wear this thing.

Generally they have some nice pictures up of official shit, but who knows if that's really what is being sent to you. If you don't mind rolling the dice, then Ebay is the way to go. I would imagine most of the time you will get your shit, but after trying once and not getting the jersey, I'm not going that route personally.

I know a guy that has every Arsenal jersey from like 1999 to the present and he gets them all of Ebay and they're all legit.

He sent me an e-mail with all these tips on how to spot fakes or scams. It seemed like a lot of work so I never really tried it.

Quote :
"Check every evening. Sort search results by "Newest Added" - that way you can see what's been put each day, and when you get down to things you've already seen before, you can stop. Looking every day or every two days is a good way to keep track of what's being sold. Just be patient. If you want an Arsenal shirt from 1990 or newer, you should find it within months, no problem.

Here's the search string I use. I put -XL -XXL because I only wear M or L, and -key/-chain because there are a lot of home jersey key chain rings usually up. Usually sellers put the sizes in the auction titles, so this filters results pretty well.

Arsenal (Nike,adidas,jersey,shirt) -(XL,XXL,2XL,key,chain)

If you see a lot of additional items pop up that you don't want to see, like polo shirts or kids' sizes, just add them to the - field, like...

-(XL,XXL,2XL,key,chain,youth,kids,polo)

Other tips I've learned on spotting fakes, but these apply more to recent years, O2 and onward:

Look at the 'Item Location' field. If it says something stupid (like "unitedstates, United States, US"), something other than a real place ("worldwide!!!, , US"), or somewhere in Asia, it's likely a fake. Especially Thailand and China. Unless you can tell it's just a normal person like you and me selling used shirts, of course.
Look at the shipping options and fees. If USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, DHL, or Royal Mail are options, it's probably okay. If shipping is outrageous - say, $15+ or £8+ - be suspicious. The auction might also say something about a ridiculous shipping time, like "please allow 14-28 days to arrive."
Buy-It-Now price. If the jersey is brand new and BIN price is less than $30 or something - if it's too good to be true - it's fake. This is not the case with used shirts though, as people like to clean out their closets and move shirts quickly.
If the seller ventures as far as to say the shirt is "Nike," they might be legit. Fake sellers usually don't mention the word Nike in the title, and sometimes but not usually in the item description - I think they're more at risk for getting in trouble if they actually claim the shirt is by Nike.
Look at the seller's feedback. They might have 1000+ positive feedback, but set eBay to show you as many at a time (200) so you can scroll through to any negative/neutral comments. Lots of people are retarded and will love fake shirts anyway, or don't know the difference. Others are clueless and buying them as gifts, or for younger siblings, a friend, etc.
Does the item description sound like it was written by someone who doesn't speak English well? "Free Ship To Worldwide." "Thank for looking & shopping with my items." "Don't forget looking other jersey in my stores." No thanks.
Look at the seller's other auctions. What sizes are available? A dead giveaway is that the seller only sells M and XL. The Asian rip-off factories only make M and XL, no L. If someone is selling a Large, it's probably legit. What teams and players are available? If it's a huge selection and things are going for cheap, they're selling fakes. Are there several auctions for the same team's jersey? Are they all using the same pictures, even though the auctions are for different sizes?
Asian rip-offs look exactly like the real thing, except sometimes logos are a little off, but usually they're made to look as close as possible. Look for all of the logos. With Nike shirts, the absence of the Dri-FIT or Nike Sphere Dry logos is a giveaway, but they are rather small and often go unnoticed.
Other differences are harder to spot. The fabric and lettering will be of poorer quality, but this can be hard to spot in pictures, or they may just provide stock pictures or a legit jersey. If the picture looks homemade, especially with normal household things like carpet and furniture visible, you'll probably be okay.

It's usually very easy to pick out an auction for a fake. Typically almost all of the above will apply - it won't be just one or two of them.

If you still have doubts, e-mail the seller for more information, more pictures, higher resolution versions of the pictures (which usually get compressed by auction listing photo-hosting sites), etc. "

The most recent jersey I got was from Subside, no complaints.

My Arsenal jersey is the Away yellows circa 00-02 so its time I upgrade. I love it, but I think I want the home red. But man, the navy kits and the third whites are pretty awesome as well.

i've gotten like 3 jerseys on ebay and theyve always been legit. if you can wait, go to the eurosport sale in hillsborough, it should be in a couple of months. its kinda of random what jerseys they have, but i've gotten some really good ones there. I bought an aston villa jersey last time and got it customized for ashley young for cheap. my brother got a nottingham forrest jersey and an old holland one. everything is like 60 percent off, so jerseys will be about 20 bucks or so.

Soccer.com, yo.

There, World Soccer Shop. FOx Soccer Shop, and World Soccer Daily shop

they're all the same store basically, and that way you don't even have to play the ebay game of "is it legit or not." Plus they have deals almost daily on shit that they email out.

I just mentioned it in US thread but I'm not sure what the crossover is between these two... Real Madrid vs. Toronto FC is on ESPN right now

TFC doesn't look too bad at the moment either

and I spoke too soon because they're getting run now

there are all kinds of jerseys on the cheap shipping out of Hong Kong. I've been looking at several Arsenal home shirts, complete with name number and PL patches....

16.99.....something has to be too good to be true. Anyone have any experience with these? The seller feedback doesn't seem to give me any indication

$16.99? American retail for a shirt like that is generally $100+.

So am I right in that we get Premiership games on ESPN2 AND FSC this year? I read above about Setanta, but do they still shuttle games to FSC?

From my understanding the games are shown like this:

Saturdays:
7:45 EST game: ESPN2
10:00 EST games: split between FSC and Setanta
12:30 EST games: FSC

Sundays:
8:30 EST game: Setanta
10:00 and 11:00 EST games: split between FSC and Setanta?

Mondays:
3 EST game: ESPN2

Tuesdays and Wednesdays: Setanta

I think there's sub-licensing deals still to be made between FSC and ESPN so the schedule for this weekend hasn't been sorted out.

You'd definitely think that Hull-Chelsea would be on one or the other though.

Nobody's sure of anything yet because there hasn't been an official announcement from ESPN.

I do believe they're showing it in HD on ESPN UK but from what I understand, that doesn't really mean anything as far as what will be shown in the US.

damn, browser crashed when i was typing this all out... here is the rundown again

* Chelsea v Hull City, 7:45am, ESPN2 Live (Not Shown on ESPN TV Listings as of now)

* Blackburn v Man City, 9:30am, Setanta Live

* Aston Villa v Wigan, 10:00am, FSC Live

* Everton v Arsenal, 12:30pm, FSC Live

* Stoke City v Burnley, 2:30pm, FSC

i'm a little worried, espn.com's tv listings show no signs of coverage for the above Chelsea game. So i'm really not sure what's going on there.

Also, does anyone know of any blackout regulations on Setanta or FSC? I have both on DirecTV but i swear during last season any time i tried to watch a EPL or UEFA match i would be blacked out. I dont want to wake up to disappointment this saturday.

I've never had Setanta, but I think kiljadn does so he can probably answer blackout questions about that...

But I don't think that happens for FSC, at least I can't ever remember it happening.

And you also forgot Liverpool-Spurs at 11 am on Sunday, FSC

yeah, having most sports in HD has been very nice... although, watching a game in HD early Saturday morning and then flipping over to FSC might be way too much of a contrast to take... it'll be like watching the game underwater

I'd tape the ESPN game and start watching it around 9, then flip over to Gameday and the full day of football that follows

I had Setanta 2 years ago. There is only one channel available in the US, whereas in Britain and elsewhere, there are 2 (sometimes 3) channels.

Generally what happens is this:

Setanta USA will switch feeds for pre-determined games on the US channel. So you may see one game on Saturday at 7AM that is on Setanta 1 in Europe, and then the other game which will be shown on Setanta 2. If you're checking listings for Setanta 1, then you may be confused into thinking that that game will be available for watching in the US as well, which is not necessarily the case.

Basically long story short: look here http://www.setanta.com/us/Our-Sports/Soccer/Barclays-Premier-League/ for the actual games you should be able to see on Setanta. I am not sure how the distro rights are going to be here in the US for the ESPN games, though.

and for the record, ESPN's feed is probably NOT going to be HD for these games. They are acquiring Setanta's feed, not broadcasting from their own AFAIK. Setanta is not HD and neither is FSC. Neither has the infrastructure to broadcast in HD in the US. FSC is supposedly working on it, but they won't be able to do it until 2011. Setanta, obviously, is in administration and probably will never make it to HD here.

They are not acquiring Setanta's feed, as there is no more Setanta feed. Setanta no longer exists in the UK. ESPN has launched in the UK and picked up the rights that Setanta held before.

FSC HD is launching in January 2010.
