There is some truth to this, in that, I've seen feminine greed ruin lives and relationships before. Although, I don't believe women in general are as materialistic as some of the women I've had to deal with in the past.
So far, what I've learned from this thread is that women care the most about two things in men. Penis Size and Money, everything else is extra icing on the cake. HA, and men are the simple creatures?

I have to get along with the guy too.
I just turned down a job making something close to $10/h at banfield, but they refused to tell me exactly how much until the third interview (I got tired of their bullshit, can only imagine how bad working for them would be) and I refuse to slowly kill pets while telling their owners I am helping them. Their optimum wellness plan is bullshit designed to make pets sick so they can make even more money treating the problems their plan creates. 8/10/2009 3:25:14 PM |

There is such a thing as making money, but if you really don't have the passion and like it, it doesnt matter. If you can get by on less money but you enjoy what you do more making less, whats so wrong with that?
I'm not saying do something were you can't support your family, but as long as they are supported, whats the problem? 8/10/2009 9:39:34 PM |
thumper All American 21574 Posts user info edit post |
I'm saying you can't support that large of a family on a teacher's salary. But of course, if you can support your family with a "lesser paying more meaningful" job then by all means, go for it.
Personally, I'd be hardpressed to find a job that pays me less, that I enjoy more than my current job, that is also enjoyable enough to actually give up the creature comforts I've become accustomed to.

I don't think I could find a job that is more meaningful to me than what I'm currently doing. I picked this career path because it interests me and I feel like I am contributing to something our country needs. I also happen to get paid well for doing it, which is a bonus. 8/10/2009 9:48:22 PM |

I mean, how do you claim earned value for your tasks? Sure, you might have a specific workpackage to charge for the rape....but if the female gets wet, then she's enjoying it right? At that point, it could be seen as a leisure activity....where you can charge the gas used to get there as a govt. write off.

i would love to be the breadwinner - i just couldn't do it on my salary. if i made about 5x what i make now, i'd be down for the stay-at-home dad idea.
some people just don't get their motivation from their work - some find that fulfillment outside of the job. whether it's because you are locked into a career path because of debt, education, etc. i wouldn't knock someone for holding a crappy job and being able to come home and do what they enjoy.
as long as everyone is contributing while you still CAN contribute (you aren't handicapped, don't have to take care of a kid, aren't @ retirment age, etc.), then you just bank whatever extra money you guys make. most likely, you'll need it some day.

My parents have been married for 25 years and my Mom has ALWAYS been the bread winner in the relationship and for the first 18-19 years of their relationship my step-dad couldnt stand it.
When I say bread-winner, I mean my mother makes between 32-34,000 more then my step dad. She deserves it, she worked her ass off in school, got her Master's degree, adn is really great at her Health Administration field.
My Mom, told my Step-dad, " if you are are not happy with the fact that I will be taking the lead on various family decisions, and making half the decisions as to where we take family vacations, etc), then you can leave".
Oh and one other important thing, which I think was smart as hell for my mom to do was, she decided to have separate and joint banking accounts. They have one joint account that they both put $$ in for family purchases, spending money for summer trips, etc. They also have their own personal accounts, b/c my Mother has investments, liquidated assets, clearly worth more then anything my step dad owns, so should they ever part ways(with it being 25 years this year, not so likely, but if it happens), then she wont EVER have to worry about if he gets any of the $$ that she earned through her hard work, educational successes, career advancements, etc.
So think of it as a personal safety-net just in case something happens, and in this day in age, I think she is WICKED Intelligent for doing so!! 6/22/2010 12:40:09 PM |

this situation is something i consider a lot these days. im currently pulling in right under 100k/yr, and my gf makes roughly double my salary. if things stay static, and we stay together long-term, it will always be this way, and even though salaries in my career top out anywhere between 150-250k, it's very likely that the disparity in income will only increase, possibly tripled or higher. it's not a bad problem because i do alright on my own, but its something you have to talk about and acknowledge. do i wish it were different? as a guy and considering gender roles, yes. but does it bother me? not really. 6/22/2010 1:33:31 PM |

agent 0 i think you're in a good situation because your income is still good on its own. its not like you're making $35k and she's pulling in $200k, i could see that being much more of an issue
your income would directly impact the lifestyle you would have together.
no woman wants to feel taken advantage of when it comes to money, just like no guy wants to feel that way.
