lost 8 in a row and the mets win 7 in a row and yet only 4 games out? Feels like the start of the hurricanes season. 4/29/2010 12:17:33 AM |

I am not sure I can remember a Braves team this bad offensively for such a long streak. Yeah there were horrible hitting teams for the Braves back in the 80s and they've had some crappy lineups even during the divisional championship streak, but this current 8 game run is uncomparable in terms of shittiness.
Another shutout last night. Against a no-name pitcher (Garcia will probably be good in the future though). No HRs in 8 straight games. Wow. Only solace I can find in this is that the Braves are at least losing to good teams. Had this streak taken place against the Nats, Pirates, and Brewers, I'd be really pissed.
The Mets have been very fortunate with their schedule so far too which is helping their current winning streak. Who the fuck gets a 12 game homestand in April? Mets have played 6 road games so far. The Braves lost more road games in the past week than the Mets even played. That is hard to do. 4/29/2010 8:59:21 AM |

LOL, what? Sure the home games... but we play every single playoff team from last year in the first month of the season! We played 3 at COL, 3 at StL 3 vs LAD and 1 vs PHI. In top of that we played three teams which were thought of to be more wildcard contenders than the Mets -- FLA, ATL and CHC.
I read over and over again at how difficult the Mets schedule was in April. Not our fault those teams played like shit at Citi.

^ Just because teams were good last year does not mean that they are good this year. I am not trying to take anything away from how well the Mets are playing. I simply stated facts. The Mets have played only 6 road games and have played very well at home thus they have moved into 1st place. We'll see if they can keep it up over the long haul. Plus I was trying to find a ray of sunshine in the toilet that is the Braves season so far. 4/29/2010 9:49:16 AM |

^^^ It does not matter at this point. The Braves hitting is so bad that once the other team scores more than 1 run, the pitchers give up.
Also I called the four game Cardinal sweep before the series even began. Bobby Cox going out in style this year!

So I'm heading up to DC for the Thursday Nationals/Braves game. I haven't been to the new ball park. Any suggestions on where to sit? I'd like to sit on the 3rd base side but also considering seats in right field. 5/3/2010 3:19:00 PM |

If you sit on the 3rd base line, you are likely to be killed by a line drive off the bat of Heyward. I suggest sitting in the upper deck
Good weekend for the Braves granted it was against the horrible Astros. Hopefully this weekend will get the team rolling again and get them back to winning some series. 5/3/2010 3:51:41 PM |

Wow bad week for the Braves health wise. Escobar goes on DL, now Jurrjens in on the DL with hamstring issues, and Heyward is out for at least tonights game with a sore shin. Hopefully Heyward will get back soon and that Jurrjens will only miss one start, but still not good when three key pieces suffer an injury within a week.
Good win last night even though Saito nearly blew it. Moylan really should be the 8th inning guy and Saito the 7th inning or maybe a situational guy. Medlen looked good last night and will start in Jurrjens place this week. Let's hope he pitches better as a starter this year than last. 5/6/2010 8:02:49 AM |

The Braves are a truly terrible hitting team. In the past, they have owned Scott fucking Olsen and yet last night they barely get wood on the ball until the 8th inning. There is no strategy at all for any of the hitters when they step into the plate. Fuckers like McLouth and Cabrera just swing at every damn pitch instead of being patient and at least getting a look at the what pitcher is offering.
Another road series starting tonight in Philly. I predict the Braves will get swept. Heyward will likely sit the entire series (he can still pinch hit) due to his groin. I did not check but I think the Braves are now 4-12 on the road. 5/7/2010 7:48:36 AM |

Quote : | "Braves to retire Glavine's No. 47
ATLANTA -- Tom Glavine thought of his rocky first full season with the Atlanta Braves when the team announced Tuesday it will retire his number.
Glavine's highlights with the Braves included two NL Cy Young awards and the decisive win over the Cleveland Indians in the 1995 World Series.
Before he enjoyed five seasons with 20 or more wins with Atlanta, Glavine went 7-17 in 1988. He says at that point there was no way he could know his No. 47 would one day be retired by the team.
"It's not something you ever envisioned and not something I ever envisioned, certainly with the way my career started in Atlanta," Glavine told The Associated Press.
The Braves will induct Glavine into the team's Hall of Fame and retire his number on Aug. 6 before a home game against the San Francisco Giants.
Glavine ranks 21st all-time with 305 wins, including 244 with the Braves. He spent five years with the New York Mets from 2003-07 but played most of his career with manager Bobby Cox and pitching coach Leo Mazzone in Atlanta.
The left-hander joined Greg Maddux, who had his No. 31 retired by the Braves and Cubs last year, and John Smoltz in a dominant Braves rotation. The three combined to win seven Cy Young awards in the 1990s.
"Like most of my career, I was fortunate to play for a great manager and have a great pitching coach and have some great players around me," Glavine said. "That all made me better and it was just a great environment to play in."
He will become only the seventh Braves player to have his number retired, joining Maddux, Hank Aaron (44), Warren Spahn (21), Eddie Mathews (41), Dale Murphy (3) and Phil Niekro (35).
"Obviously it puts me in some pretty darn good company," Glavine said, "not only in the Atlanta Braves world, but also in the world of baseball. Those are guys who were great players. It's always special when you're put in that kind of company."
The left-hander finished his playing career with the Braves in 2008. He attempted a 2009 comeback from surgery on his left elbow and shoulder. He was bitter when he was released by the team after what he believed was a successful minor league rehab stint.
Glavine's relationship with the team was restored in February when he made his retirement official and was named a special assistant to team president John Schuerholz. He also works on some Braves radio and TV broadcasts as he decides what long-term role to pursue.
"Tom has been, and continues to be, a very special part of the Atlanta Braves organization," Schuerholz said, adding it was time Glavine's number "finds its rightful place alongside other great Braves Hall of Famers."
Glavine, a 10-time All-Star, was 244-147 with a 3.41 ERA in 17 seasons with Atlanta and 305-203 overall. He won Cy Young awards in 1991, when the Braves began their run of 14 straight division titles, and 1998. " |
