It's really long, but for anyone who is interested in historical fiction, the book Sarum, by Edward Rutherford, is really good.

It is focused on the area of the Salisbury plain in England, and tracks things from 10,000 years ago up to modern times. I couldn't put it down.

Maybe if I make a list it'll help me stay on track (the bookshelf on fb does not)

1. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
2. I Am Charlotte Simmons by Tom Wolfe

3. Naked Pictures of Famous People by Jon Stewart
4. You Can't Drink All Day If You Don't Start in the Mornin' by Celia Rivenbark
5. True Believer by Nicholas Sparks
6.Belle Weather: Mostly Sunny with a Chance of Scattered Hissy Fits and Conniptions by Celia Rivenbark
7. Bless Your Heart, Tramp: And Other Southern Endearments by Celia Rivenbark
8. The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks
9. A Tale of Love & Darkness by Amos Oz
10. At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks
11. None to Accompany Me by Nadine Gordimer
12. The Choice by Nicholas Sparks
13. One Hundred Years of Solitude Gabriel Garcie Marquez
14. Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
15. The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult
16. Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks
17. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
18. Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris
19. The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

These are just ones I've had on my bookshelf that I've been meaning to read...I obv need a lot more suggestions to fill out my list, but this is a start. I am reading the Jon Stewart book next; the rest may be out of order. I need something light after that Tom Wolfe gobbledygook...

No. 18 gets read as soon as it's released in May no matter what book I may be on at the time.

sparks is a NC writer. he's ok in my opinion, but a lot of people really love his books. they're more popular with women but something about his tone throws me off when i'm reading.

i've only read dear john so i'm trying out last song before i write him off completely.

^^The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John...the writer of sappy romantic chick flicks turned movies in some cases

he's from New Bern, so many of his novels are set in NC with a few in SC

it's an easy read...and I'm so behind on the goal I really need a few easy reads. I can knock out one of his books in a day or two.

^I really enjoyed most of his earlier stuff, but after his memoirs (Three Weeks With my Brother which I found very interesting as he talked about his inspiration for his first novels and some personal stuff going on in his life--like one of his sons has autism) I tried to read At First Sight and got bored...I completely gave him up, and have since gotten way behind. It was like one day I woke up and he had 6 more novels?! Gotta be nice to have a contract!

That said, my favorite is The Guardian...the mystery/romance/dog themed novel.

Mistakes Were Made (but not by me) - Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson - Very highly recommended. This should be required reading for the entire universe.
How We Believe - Michael Shermer - Shermer gets on my nerves. "Prove to me that God exists... What? You can't use that argument! God is unprovable! I win!" I agree with his overall point, but his execution is weak.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - Washington Irving - (do these count as books? it was like 12 pages long)
Enemies - Richard Harris
Now, Discover Your Strengths - Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton
Made to Stick - Chip and Dan Heath
Perfume - Patrick Süskind - Highly recommended! Pretty weird, but very intriguing.
Sandworms of Dune - Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson
Why Orwell Matters - Christopher Hitchens

Audiobooks (I have a lot of spare time):
The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown
Superfreakonomics - Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner
Lies My Teach Told Me - James Loewen
Swindled: From Poisoned Sweets to Counterfeit Coffee - Bee Wilson
New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer - Bill Maher
A Traveller in War-Time - Winston Churchill
My Life - Bill Clinton
The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - Robert Louis Stevenson
Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space - Carl Sagan
The House on the Strand - Daphne du Maurier
The Golden Compass - Philip Pullman
The Subtle Knife - Philip Pullman
The Amber Spyglass - Philip Pullman
The Time Machine - HG Wells
The Post-American World - Fareed Zakaria
Siddhartha - Herman Hesse
Good Omens - Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
Gingerbread Girl - Stephen King
A Confederacy of Dunces - John Kennedy Toole
Relentless - Dean Koontz

ive read the sookie stackhouse series, which is what true blood on hbo is based on. i think the stories are great, i feel like they read really fast and they're fun! i finish the books so fast because i cant put them down.

check out the library and try out the first book to see if you like it!

you'll find the list of books in order here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Southern_Vampire_Mysteries

i recommend not reading too much of that entry past the listing of books as you will encounter some spoilers!

isn't it kinda dumb to read thru a book and be like: "there, done, moving on" If u not digressing to read up on things that interest you along the way or stopping for a while because u emotional exaustion then u not really an engaged reader or the book not worth it 52 book in 52 weeks is dumb idea. depth people! there are these whole book length things called literary criticisms, they usually kick the shit out of the actual book.

^^ i read fast & have a lot of random free time

i will get on the stair climber at the gym and read for an hour 3-4 times a week

i will read my book while i'm waiting for an oil change, car detail or a dr visit

i read in airports and on flights, while i'm a passenger on long car rides

i'm not 'racing' to finish books, i just read fast & have time to consume several books a month. some books take longer but i can do some lighter reading while i work through it. also i think most people may be in the mood to read but only for 30-45min and not get into a serious reading book.

different books for different moods yo

Oh I definitely will! We still have a lot of stuff to do because we have a lot of projects going on and we are both crazy busy at the moment. We have mainly just bought a few of the pieces of furniture and light fixtures at this point in time haha.

Basically we are turning the formal living room into our reading room/library since a "formal living room" doesn't really serve any purpose to us. Our goal is that this turns that room into a usable, functional room, that also looks nice since it is one of the first two rooms you see in the house (the other being the dining room).

Hopefully as we knock out some of the other outdoor projects we wanted to get done we can get moving on this one and I'll have some progress to post in that thread.
