what about indestructible toys? Kong Extreme (black) are good for that. When Bella was having destructive problems in her crate I took a kong and put treats inside of it, so she had to mess with it to get the treats out of it. The pet store also had this cool-whip looking can of stuff that you could spray inside of a treat. I looked online and this puzzle toy method was one of the suggestions to keep a dog occupied for a little while to help with separation anxiety.

She destroyed the foam liner of her cage but didn't go after the plastic liner...I think it is hard to get to because it slides in an under compartment.

I'd give the Kong a shot, its ~$12-15 and if it is destroyed in a week or less then you can take it back with the receipt and get a refund or exchange. That happened when we got the red version...she destroyed it, so I took it back and exchanged for black.

Also, you may as well keep her in the crate and you could put the busted plastic liner under the crate to keep her away from the carpet. Barring that, you could put her outside.

Another method to try that I'm sure you'll love is to take the dog for a run in the morning before you leave. Wipe it out so that it passes out and isn't stuck in a crate with a ton of energy. That, or get a rope and play tug of war/wrestle for awhile with the dog to get rid of energy. This will have the side effect of the dog being energetic when you wake up, but you'll at least have less destroyed things and a happier puppy.

See edit. I think it took Bella a little while for her to upgrade from soft plush toys to hard plastic, but putting treats in it seemed to make her more interested in them, plus throwing it down the hall for her to chase it. She started on them a little after teething I think.

I already get up earlier for the dog. There is a limit to how early I can get up, I do need sleep, you know. And working/running/walking with the dog would take a lot longer than 20 minutes, a lot fucking longer.

we need a shock collars for our 2 cats, one (betty) when she gets near plants (she eats and throws up every plant she can reach and she's got ninja skills so thats pretty much any of them) and the other (mable) for when she gets near the 1st cat or bacon (all she ever does is hunt betty and try to steal bacon)

the dog doesn't get into anything you can shove a steak in her face and she'll look at you like "for realz?" until you nod or tell her its cool.

I'm dog sitting and this dog has some serious storm anxiety. I've watched him before, but he was in the house when the tornado hit in april and the back wall got ripped. Sunday night he had fits and ran around wimpering, and last night there was no storm but LOTS of airplanes and he freaked out again and chewed up a bunch of stuff. The owner has not texted me back about giving him benedryl, and I know he has a sensitive stomach, so I don't want to drug him if they aren't ok with it. Anyone have any suggestions for helping him without meds?

a blanket could help or sitting with him in a small safe place. like maybe if you could be in one room (can you close off a room and be in it with the dog?).

i have read that being in a smaller closed in area makes them feel safe (like typically a bathroom but clearly you don't wanna sit in there all night) and wrapping them in a blanket can also make them feel safe

my dog gets storm anxiety too but not super bad. i usually just put a blanket on her and let her sit really close to me/on me and pet her.

So when my dog whines we send her to "her room" (my closet) and we don't even shut her in , she'll stay for 15-20 min then 'sneak' out and quietly lay with us.

Our dog did this too. So we started yelling at the litter box whenever the dog was in the room with it and she's stopped messing around with it. I know that sounds retarded as hell but it's what our trainer recommended and it worked

HEY!

does anyone get the antler chews for their dogs???? apparently they are awesome for dogs to chew on since they are natural (and fall off of the elk or whatever naturally) and they take a LONG time for the dog to nom on and dogs like them

i didn't know if anyone used them for their dogs. i was thinking of getting one (they are kinda expensive though i think like $30) for my chew loving doggy that ruins all toys and devours rawhides within minutes.

i think they might have them at phydeaux i don't know though. i'm sure they do but you can also order them on amazon. which sucks i know because phydeaux is local BUT the really big ones are $$$ and you can get them for cheaper on the internets.
