NetSports does indoor pickup at lunch time during the week. I can't remember which days but I want to say at least 2 days / week, maybe 3. I'll try to get details from a couple guys I know that go later this week. I may start going myself soon too.

I'm ready to get some revenge against Royal Pains. Unfortunately it's looking like we will be missing quite a few of our defensive players tomorrow.

^Royal Pains are not near the same team they were 2 seasons ago when they beat up on Men's Open C. You should be able to pwnt them.

Newcastle beat them 6-1 last week, so you guys should win, if your best forwards show up. Winning in this league is all about scoring goals. You can't win 1-0 very often.

We did get 3 shutouts in a row last year, including a 1-0 win.

We haven't gotten back to our best form yet though. I still think we can win tomorrow, but I'd like to tear them apart.

The league that I am playing in in SC starts next Wednesday. I'm nervous as hell since I haven't played a real game in like 7 years. Even though I mainly played keeper growing up, I kind of regret saying I would play in goal for the team I joined now though. Mainly because I think it would be a little less stressful getting back into the game playing in the field. It's just an adult rec league but the league is pretty competitive with a lot of ex college players and stuff.

Either way I went out and bought a whole brand new set of goalkeeper equipment yesterday. Should be interesting; what I lacked in height growing up (5'8") I made up with experience but I think 7 years eroded that experience and I certainly haven't gotten any taller.

PS I forgot how nice it is to get brand new goalkeeper gloves. Picked up some Adidas Response Fingertips yesterday and wow the grip is ridiculous.

^ You play keeper right? What gloves do you use?

The gloves I had been using in my pre-season practices were reallllly old and worn out since they were my gloves from HS (the last time I played). I was getting really frustrated not being able to hold onto the ball etc. in the early practices. I had planned to get new gloves anyway for the season but just hadn't made up my mind what to get. I actually meant to post here but forgot.

Anyway, I went to a local soccer shop last week before the game and picked up some Adidas Response Fingertips (The ~$70 pair, not the cheaper Replique, but also not the $120 version) and so far they seem pretty awesome. I'm sure it helps I am comparing them to old worn out gloves with torn up latex on the palms but the grip and overall feel seemed really nice for the money spent.

Also, instead of buying new goalkeeper shorts, I actually bought some football Under Armour compression shorts to wear under our soccer shorts.

^I didn't play keeper this weekend. We just have no defense and no real offense right now. One of our better defenders is sick and one of our better forwards is hurt. We play like the USA, give up goals early and then shut them out the rest of the game.

Haha, I didn't mean it in a "hey you should get better gloves if they are scoring that many, here's what I have!" way.

I was just genuinely curious as someone coming back to the game in goal what people's opinions were on gloves.

haha I know how that is though. I was worried about that coming into the first game (heck I still am). Some of the easy ones I was too comfortable with in practices and I screwed up on, but then on the flip side I was feeling great with 1on1s and coming out to punch the ball on corners etc. I think the less time you have to think about stuff in goal the better as long as you have good instincts

Game 2 tonight at 6:30.

Our schedule is only 8 games, but hopefully we'll get 2-3 playoff games depending on how they bracket it. Greenville, SC has a lot smaller league than something like Raleigh. In Men's 11v11 we have A,B,C but only 5-6 teams in each division. We have 6 in ours (B) and we play 3 teams 2x and 2 teams once in the regular season.

^You lost again?

btw, I hate the Soccer Post so bad! I told them that I needed a shirt for my new guy and someone took my info. Then I called about 2 days later and was told that they only fill bulk orders. WHY COULDN'T THEY TELL ME THAT THE FIRST TIME I CALLED!?!? Everytime I call there I get told something different. They always tell me to go to TJ Maxx and buy my own shirts to bring to them, but TJ Maxx doesn't have any plain blue shirts. Before the season they wouldn't even fill my order until I talked to Donna. There was no need to talk to her. I wasn't getting a TASL logo on the shirt. I don't think Bay 6 is much better.

lol.

we tied 2-2 last night. We were up 2-1 and gave up a goal with about 10 minutes left in the game. We had too many people still pushing up for goals and got beat on a crappy counter attack. Frustrating but oh well.

^We blew a 2-0 lead in our first game and tied 2-2. We still only have 1 tie and no wins.

Now the Soccer Post left me a mesage today after I went to work saying I need to buy my own shirt and bring it to them to stick a number on.

^Don't you mean Royal Pains? They are the worst team in the league. You gotta give us credit for our 1 tie. I think we are a win, or two better than our current record. We just need our top 5 or so players to not be injured, sick, or actually show up for once. Halloween Eve will be interesting, if we have more than 13 players show up this time.

SHW 13 SRSC 2

We had 10 guys show up. They actually had some subs and got away with some offsides. If I had to rank the guys on roster from most skilled to least skilled then I would say about 3 of our top 5 players were out.

btw, hats off to God and harmemou for 2 nice goals.

btw, I think we need to find a place and time to have a TWW Derby between Sporting Raleigh and Rukus FC in the off season. It would probably be hard to do though since no one on my team wants to show up even for the games they paid to play in.

^Ah damn! Well we get our chance to beat Royal Pains on Saturday. They have been having trouble getting enough people to show up, so if our bench would actually show up for once then we can run them into the ground. Like I said in the lost ball e-mail, we have a pretty easy schedule coming up. There is no excuse for not beating Royal Pains. We can beat Newcastle too. My biggest concern is Halloween Eve. Hopefully we can win that one!

Honestly, We are better than a 13-2 loss. We were hanging with them for about 15 minutes. We just need people to show up. You can't win when you have to play down a man vs the top team from the start. Hopefully mizzo will be able to play in the spring.

If anyone needs a player, I'm pretty decent and have played every position. Just moved back to the area and am looking for a team, but Saturdays are pretty much off limits until football season is over (at least when State is at home).

^I would sign people up with one game to go if it wasn't such a pain in the ass. You have to make sure their player pass is made and picked up before their first game. Then you have to try to find them a uniform and that is an adventure. I finally found a shirt for my new guy at Target after The Soccer Post said they could get me one, then they said they couldn't, then they said they could, then they said they couldn't. Then there is the whole prorating issue and paying people back who played. We have yet to have everyone show up at a game together, so I am sure I will be sending refunds in the mail to at least 5 players when the season ends.

TASL is changing the payment format for the spring which they should have done the first season the league started. There is no more paying the team captain back and spliting the cost 30 ways, so you pay less. Now, no matter how big your roster is, everyone will have to...

1) pay online

2) pay $95, if they are a first year player for their first team. The second team they play on the cost will be $85, and all teams after that will be $5. Returning players will get charged $85 dollars for their first team.

^We added guys part way through the season, so the cost went down and I charged people extra, so if less than 7 show up then I don't lose $120 dollars.

^^I have no clue, but we need to have people show up, so we can beat the worst team in the league in our only meeting with them. I'm skipping the VT game. Hopefully not too many people skip to go to UNC vs ECU and NCSU vs VT. We have an off week next week and BC is in Raleigh, so people can watch football next week.

I just checked and the artificial fields were open today at WRAL. The rain is gone. We'll be playing.
