The TD pass to Smith was pretty impressive, but that's about it.
I think Clausen gets eaten alive if he stars from here on out. Could get brutal. 9/14/2010 12:08:17 PM |

the reality is Moore had a bad game, the defense played well, special teams played alright...i'm not ready to give up on the season after an 0-1 start...maybe the Chargers and Jets should do the same

homeboy is STILL saying we should trade one of our only productive offensive assets
you think a trade in this days NFL is going to net us a positive? At best we get a good draft pick, which who knows how that will turn out.
let me say, Ribs, that I do understand where you are coming from. Trade assets while they are valuable before they leave via free agency -- I get that, i'm a huge hockey fan and trading in the NHL is much more in line with what you propose. But in the NFL, trades are less common and when they occur it's usually as a cutting of losses thing -- see Santonio Holmes for a fifth. You seriously think we could trade Deangelo and get something (other than a pick, which is a huge risk for a proven player) that is worth our loss of a guy who we depend on?
It's the first fucking game, let's see how we do from here on. And I think that we need to put in Jimmy. Dammit. 9/16/2010 9:41:09 PM |

Can't believe I didn't see this before. I came in here to grab last week's quotes about Moore and see how TT10 would try and talk his way out of it while remaining in denial about this team.
So, let's take another look at this.
Given the current state of our team, which may not win a single game this year, would you take DeAngelo in return for a first rounder? They "allegedly" could have gotten this deal from San Diego at one point this last offseason which is why I brought it up in the first place. They had every intention of tanking it from the first day of free agency last year so that kind of deal would have at least put us in a better position to get back to legitimacy. It's been proven over time that running backs are not that valuable anymore in the NFL. Knowing our ownership, they'll franchise him this offseason and then just let him walk the next offseason with no compensation.
If you get offered a first rounder for running back in our position, you HAVE to take that deal.

I just don't understand how, based on how the Panthers have drafted over the last few seasons, you would want to give up our best offensive weapon not named Steve Smith, to allow Hurney to gamble on another project of a draft pick
Hey, lets get rid of a top-5 NFL running back so that Marty Hurney can use the pick to draft another USC wide receiver, or trade up for an undersized defensive end out of FSU
You know what our problem is this season? We don't have many offensive weapons. We have Smith, we have Deangelo. We have no other proven receivers, and our backup halfback couldn't even pick up a 4th and 1 conversion yesterday. So being that our offense is pretty much impotent, your suggestion is to trade away one of our 2 offensive playmakers? As if giving up on the season in September is somehow a good thing?] 9/20/2010 5:11:31 PM |

Whats the point of having that to 5 RB if you're going to be a 5 or 6 win team, at best?
Makes sense to gamble that you get a difference maker and trade him before he gets too close to 30. 9/20/2010 5:17:58 PM |

1) This season was over in April
2) So are you now admitting that Hurney is a terrible GM after you took shots at me for saying that all offseason with that "allowing Hurney to draft" comment? He better join Fox on the way out.
3) If we're going to tank it and rebuild, let's tank it and rebuild. Why half ass it after you've gone this far to tear the team apart this past offseason.
4) I've made myself clear about DeA over and over and over and over and over. Running backs are not that valuable in the National Football League anymore. This is a passing league in 2010. Having one above average back in Beef Stew is more than enough production at that position. 9/20/2010 5:23:09 PM |

Whats the point of having Steve Smith if you are gonna run the ball 40 times a game
Every team has strengths and weaknesses...our offensive line and running backs are our offensive strength...why completely fuck that up? Besides, you know we're gonna go on some run late in the season where we win 5 straight, we finish with 7-8 wins, and just miss out on the playoffs...thats what always happens
Quote : | "Having one above average back in Beef Stew is more than enough production at that position." |
Assuming you have a good passing. Which we don't. Having one above average back is fine if you have Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady. But most teams don't have Peyton Manning or Drew Brees.

So my options are either to be a butthurt fanboy, or to be a realist and acknowledge that the season was over in April
k
btw, Vikings might as well trade ADP before he gets too old. Same with CJ and the Titans. RBs just arent that valuable in the NFL.
Speaking of running backs not being valuable, I think Wade Phillips agrees with you there, since Dallas refuses to run the ball more than 10 times a game. They also have an 0-2 record.] 9/20/2010 5:28:12 PM |

Yeah, now you're getting it. Support the team, but don't kid yourself as to what is going on and what product is being put on the field.
Yeah, I'd hate lose all those Super Bowls appearances and wins with AP and Chris Johnson. How many playoff appearances did AP have before Favre again?
Go take a look at which team won every division last year. How many of them had a great running game? How many had a great QB?

you act like you're bringing some revolutionary point to the table when you point out that its a QB-driven league when everybody knows that
whats our solution at QB? Moore? Clausen? Pike? Its not Manning or Brees or Brady. So if we can't have an elite QB, we should utilize the strengths that we do have, which are the running game, and using it to setup PA passing
Your proposed solution would be great if the Saints wanted to trade Pierre Thomas or if the Colts wanted to trade Joseph Addai. But we don't have a QB like that. Which is why its retarded to trade our best RB. 9/20/2010 5:38:04 PM |

My only question is whether the Panthers will pay to keep both these RBs.
DeA's contract is up this year, and Stewart's is up 2012. Depending on what happens next year, DeA may be 29-30 heading into the 2012 season. I don't have faith in the Panthers front office to spend the money it will take to keep both of these guys in the backfield. If I have to choose someone long term I take Stewart with a change of pace back like Goodson, simple due to age.
Their is always the chance they come across a trade such as Seymour to Oakland for 1st round pick(typically top 5), or the Roy Williams to Dallas trade for a 1st, 3rd, and 5th round pick
I'm not promoting trading DeA, I just think it's something to consider, depending on the return.

I'm guessing that TT has a DeAngelo jersey and doesn't want to buy a new one yet.

J Stew is my only RB jersey
I'm just asking what your solution is to get our passing game on track since its a QB-driven league. Because I have no idea how trading our best running back for a draft pick is going to somehow help our passing game. Please explain.
I also feel sorry for any fan of any team who gives up on the season after 2 games. Especially this year, when, I don't know, THERE MIGHT NOT BE AN NFL SEASON IN 2011.] 9/20/2010 5:57:41 PM |

LOL
It starts with playing Clausen, which you were against last week.
Quote : | "moore will be fine..." |
I hope not. This season is going to be a throwaway to get all these young guys experience. We might as well get Clausen in there and get some games under his belt so he knows to expect/work on during the offseason.
Quote : | "its week 1...relax" |
It would also help to have found a 2nd receiver in the offseason. That first rounder for DeAngelo to the Chargers would have been ahead of Dallas, so conceivably would could have gotten Dez Bryant with that pick. It wouldn't be fixed overnight, but at least we would have a guy that could step in at an immediate #2 and move to #1 when Smitty hangs them up in a few years. That would be making progress...
[Edited on September 20, 2010 at 6:10 PM. Reason : or get someone, anyone in FA. Talented guys were getting thrown around for 5th rounders.]9/20/2010 6:08:29 PM |

Thats a moot point because we would've never drafted Dez Bryant given his character issues, and how Big Cat runs the team. He'd rather go 0-16 with 53 good character guys, than go 16-0 with a bunch of thugs.
So...seeing as how that was never a feasible possibility, what other suggestions did you have?
Quote : | "or get someone, anyone in FA. " |
Again, J-Rich isn't going to spend big money the year before the CBA. I would've loved a Boldin or Houshmandzedah but it wasn't gonna happen. We obviously hope(d) Lafell would be a good #2. We should've definitely drafted a college WR instead of Edwards though.
When you keep telling people about "the big picture" are you talking about Big Cat's role in the CBA? Cause thats the big picture]9/20/2010 6:11:15 PM |

This is standard protocol.
1) You say something naive
2) I call you on it
3) You attempt to change the argument and commence reverse trolling
4) It ends with you saying "wait till next week" or something
ACCORDING TO TREETWISTA THERE IS NO CONCEIVABLE WAY THIS TEAM COULD BE ANY BETTER RIGHT NOW. NO MOVE WOULD HAVE IMPROVED OUR ROSTER. WHY EVEN SUGGEST DOING ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT "THE MASTERMIND" HURNEY ACTUALLY DID.
LOL. Please, keep this up. If there is one positive about my team sucking, it'll be watching your drivel over the course of 16 weeks.
Oh, give me 16-0 with a bunch of thugs 200% of the time, too.

you sure did type a lot to say nothing
if you have such a great grasp on the state of the team, how about answering these really simple questions
1. whats the big picture you keep talking about 2. if its a QB-driven league, how is trading a running back for a draft pick going to help our passing game this season? or have you literally given up on the season 12.5% into it?
did you meet deangelo williams in a bar, and have him take your girlfriend home with him that night or something? or are you just the most pessimistic fan imaginable?
and while you're at it, why don't you actually quote something naive or dumb that i've said so I can address it specifically, instead of speaking in general terms
cause it seems like your biggest gripe with me is i was fairly optimistic before the season started...oh i'm so sorry for having some hope when our record is 0-0, forgive me
i also have a fundamental problem with anyone who says the season was over before it even started, any sport or any league...its almost like you pride yourself in how pessimistic you are
Quote : | "NO MOVE WOULD HAVE IMPROVED OUR ROSTER" |
i pointed out that we wouldnt draft a guy like Bryant due to character issues...i also pointed out that we wouldn't go after free agents since Big Cat is the head of the Owners at the upcoming CBA and doesnt want it to backfire on him...I never said anything about not being able to improve the team, I'm simply pointing out why none of those moves happened. Because thats not how Jerry runs the team. Don't get mad at me for pointing that out, and don't confuse it as me liking the lack of moves. I just didn't expect them, because I know how this front office operates
