They're automatically compared to what you're wearing. That screenshot doesn't show it because it was taken from before they added it. I'm not sure how often you'd need to compare two items that you aren't wearing so I don't know how much of a problem that is. I think it's an improvement, especially the 3D model viewer and how they're integrating that into the questing. 11/11/2011 1:39:42 PM |

Can't wait for some texture packs. Textures are pretty bad compared to some of the newer Oblivion texture mods.

disco_stu All American 7436 Posts user info edit post |
It's part luck. Rotate the lockpick to where you want to start then slowly turn the lock. If it shudders stop and move the lockpick. Repeat until it shudders less and less then not at all and the lock is open. 11/11/2011 2:53:52 PM |

The UI for this game is a step back and the control interface is very poorly done for the PC, feels like a cheap console port. I'm really surprised Bethesda would do something this bad.
The game itself is loads of fun though, gameplay and graphics are improvements on Oblivion. No drastic changes, but improvements never the less. 11/11/2011 4:39:44 PM |

I don't have a problem with the UI. 1-8 hotkeyed, hit Q for favorites. Are you hotkeying and assigning favorites? I think the UI is slick. 11/11/2011 4:42:36 PM |

Nevermind, this game has some targetting issues on the PC.
Have any of you had a corpse 'stick' to you after youve killed it? Making it difficult to deal with other enemies attacking you?

Biggest thing I noticed about the game was the resolution (playing on PS3).
I had Oblivion for the 360 (non-HD) and then got it for the PS3 when I bought it (originally for use as a BD player). The graphics on the PS3 were WAY better than the 360.
This time it's opposite. And, while my TV normally displays 1080p, it switches to 720p (not 1080i) for Skyrim.
Yeah...I also got hit by a giant and went superman after. I saw another giant kick a wolf into the stratosphere.
Seriously, I tried to follow the wolf. It got lost in the clouds and NEVER came down.
But, I killed a Mammoth at lvl 6.
By myself.
With a bow.

Side note, first impressions are that the technical distractions can be overcome (with regard to user interface). I really wanted to hate it, but I just can't. The gameplay itself is too solid. The presentation is extremely unpolished, but the fundamentals are there.

Same class here, haha. I started dual wielding a sword and a dagger but it didn't seem very effective, but then I figured out how to use magic on the off-hand . Now I generally use a shield offfhand since you can still block, but I play with magic a lot as well. I don't like how you can't block when dual wielding, or am I missing something?
I do love how you can effectively use arrows from the beginning of the game, unlike in Morrowind. Hunting rules btw
I'm curious how the game will differentiate between the armor levels because all I can see is that is really puts heavy armor forward. That is, seems like every noob will wear heavy armor because it gives the highest numbers.
I'm up to level 6 or 7 and have yet to start filling out any talent trees. I liked enchanting and alchemy in previous games, but seems like other talents can have much more powerful effects now. Almost want to go smithing because of the "heavy armor weighs nothing" perk but not sure how smithing would benefit me in the eantime.11/12/2011 8:31:23 AM |

^^^i've always preferred the light armor, and there are some good benefits to it in this game. I like sneaking up on people and slitting their throats, and heavy armor is loud, plus i loot the hell out of everything, so i dont want to be wearing 75 pounds of armor, and once you start filling out the talent tree, light armor can still be very effective

i pissed one off thinking i could outrun him but he ran up the damn mountain to catch me. i jumped off a cliff to avoid him, turns out i jumped right into his zone but found some rocks to sneak behind, then i just sniped him and his buddy off from the rocks where they couldnt get me, took about 15 minutes but they gone 11/12/2011 11:21:04 AM |

^^ noone made you buy it on steam.
This game has some issues on the PC.
Corpses have been 'sticking' to me after they die if im right on them The game has just closed to desktop without even a windows 7 error (this may not be the game) I got stuck in an infinite dialogue with the Alikir guy in the Winterrun dungeon. Tab would not exit and clicking anywhere on screen made him repeat his dialogue. I couldnt even esc to close or load.
Despite this, it is still fantastic and I would recommend to anyone. I am really liking the shield play dynamics, though being melee is certainly feeling more difficult than being a magic user.
I didn't see it mentioned, is this steam cloud enabled?

Smithing is a great money maker. I've made a ton of jewelry already from all the gems and ingots I've picked up in caves and dungeons.
My first character is a dark elf, so I've gone destruction magic--one handed--stealth--lockpick skills to start. I wonder how the Companions will react to me joining both the Thieves' Guild and the Dark Brotherhood? 11/12/2011 12:02:48 PM |

I'm playing a Wood Elf thief style. I'm really enjoying sneaking and shooting with my bow. Using some spells, but mainly use bow then 1 handed and sheild.
LOVE the crafting. Made all my own Leather armor (fine) and hide shield (fine) Alchemy is fun....became a werewolf last night, it is AWESOME
transform only once a day but get a permanent boost to your health and stamina (+100) I think I'll werewolf for a long while then heal myself and become a Vamp.
If you become a werewolf, you will encounter NPC's who will try and kill you, they are werewolf hunters. You can open side missions to kill the hunters with your werewolf brothers.

Anyone done that "hangover" style quest? It's pretty funny but I'm gonna have to come back to it later I guess, I've got to get a goat away from a giant and it's kicking my ass every time.
While destruction and one handed is cool, it's not optimal. If you're a battlemage you've already got your weapon to do damage, you should focus on a magic that warriors can't replicate.
If you just like to throw fireballs while swinging a sword then it's all good but you aren't as effective as you could be. 11/12/2011 6:56:30 PM |
