I doubt they only paid $2000. Even with the poor production values, there's no way you could produce a song, a video with multiple locations/sets/props/extras/wardrobe/makeup and do post-production for that little. I'm guessing the parents dropped a zero there...

I don't think they treat "future profits" as a subsidy for the parents though. Because 99% of these songs will never generate a penny in revenue. It's called a "vanity production" for a reason.

I think what annoys me the most about this, and pop music in general, is that it makes these kids with really no talent think they can and should be stars. Most of the people that think they can be pop stars, as well as the few that actually make it, have little to no talent.

If you want to hear a truly talented female vocalist for a comparison, listen to any of Lea Salongas music and broadway performances.
