I'm comparing coaches with success at mid-majors cashing in at the wrong big conference school. If hurley has another 20-10 season at Buffalo next year, he gets an even better job. If he doesn't, he still gets a job of the quality of ASU.

Look at Shaka Smart. VCU hasn't repeated the success of the season he had that put him in the NCSU coaching search. But he still performed near the top of his mid major and landed Texas.

Outside of the really bad SEC schools, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a shittier situation than ASU among the Power 5.

Herb is a horrible coach and got them to a couple NCAA tourneys, a decent number of 20-win seasons and has even been able to bring in some decent recruits. It's a big university in a power conference. Hurley is a young coach that plays a system that kids want to play in. I think you're way overestimating ASU as a doldrum for basketball coaches.

Turner Gill was a shit coach who had one fluke year at Buffalo where he wasn't even that good (8-6)

The basketball comparison for him would be more like that guy who was at Georgia and won the SEC Tourney the one year the stadium fell apart

i mean bobby hurley has 2 seasons as a head coach and one NCAA appearance. it's not like he's that much more proven that gill was

Bill Frieder built Michigan into a NCAA title team (though Steve Fisher got to reap the rewards in 6 games as a head coach). left michigan to coach in the desert and went 66-78 in conference at ASU. made the NCAA's twice in 8 seasons. sound familiar? though, to his credit, he did have the one sweet 16 run the Sun Devils have had in the last 40 years

y'all are high if you think hurley is a proven commodity that can change nearly half a century of mediocrity around. not saying he can, but his track record is two...TWO!!!...whole seasons in the MAC
