By all means, we can still have a great year next year. But there's no reason to be surprised we aren't going into it ranked.

Hopefully Henderson (and one or both of the twins) will be able to fill in for Turner fairly seemlessly, and while I hate that Washington left, he really wasn't giving us much the last half of the season (with the exception of a few games), and I think we'll be fine with freeman, anya, abu (and maybe kirk)..... but Lacey leaving really hurts and we really don't have anybody to fill-in for him. He was our best player, was going to be our back-up pg, and probably playing close to 40 minutes a game.

(i know it's very unlikely, but i wonder if corchiani jr. will ever be able to provide any quality back-up minutes?)

You guys are really missing the value of outside shooting. Its one thing to lose 3 scorers but we lost our 3 most reliable outside shooters. Spacing is going to be shit next year unless someobe comes out of nowhere with a new shot.

I would say we lost two of our three most reliable shooters. Cat has to be in the group of 3 and he is coming back. We need Henderson to be a stud from deep or our offense could struggle.

Sorry for realizing the affect outside shooters have on offense in general. I know many of you think games are played in a vacuum and stat sheets tell everything so Suspend me for knowing basketball if thats a suspendable offense. Please. Then theres so many people on here that don't want to discuss sports and rather just talk about suspending people.

Washington may not have been a great shooter, but he was a great shooting big, you had to guard him, and he was quite consistent especially with the baseline jumper. Hell, he shot over 50% from 3 last year. That kind of thing from a 4 WORKS WONDERS for floor spacing.

A lot of Cat's shooting success can be credited to people playing off him to respect his drive. People won't have to play off Cat because without so many prolific shooters, they can rely on help.

The most floor washington spaced out was between himself and his defender as they were laying the ball in the basket. Sure, Washington is a good shooter for a 4, but hes so bad at everything else, did it really even out?

Washington lost hurt us, but the Kirk kid reminds be a lot of him. I think Washington has a good shot at going pro regardless of where he ends up. He has a good work ethic he just needs to play with his head more. I agree that Washington jumper was very reliable he just needed to hone up his defensive skills more and polish up his post moves/passes.

Problem with Washington and Painter were that, at times, they were offensive black-holes.

I think they were so desperate to be a bigger part of the offense, that they'd take any shot they got. If they were hitting their shot, then they were huge, but if they were off, they didn't stop forcing shots.

Washington, at times, would play like that dude at the Y that thought he was the best scorer on the court and would try to dominate the ball anytime his team passed it to him. So eventually the team just stops passing the ball to that guy.

Gott had his summer presser today:

- Cat has gotten better with his outside shooting. Gott sounds like he expects a huge year out of him.
- Caleb Martin/Cody Martin/Henderson are the options as backups to Cat at PG.
- Cody Martin could play all 5 positions at times this year. Really versatile.
- Freeman back in September or early October after his shin surgery.
- Anya hasn't lost the weight they were hoping he'd lose once the season ended.
- Kirk is raw, but a great athlete.

Much like Warren was the key to our team 2 years ago, and Lacey was the key to our team last year, there is 0 doubt that Barber is the key to the team this year. He struggles, we struggle. He goes down, we go down. Sounds like the coaches are really high on him, think in the presser he even mentioned Barber could easily play his way into a "high draft pick". Sounds like he's really improving.

Just because Freeman is cleared for Oct. 1, doesn't mean he'll be in playing-shape or be ready to go 100%. I think the rumors of redshirt are probably still true since it's still a possibility if there are any setbacks in healing or getting into playing shape.

Kinda weak schedule. Not very exciting for season ticket holders either. All of these are winnable, though. I'd hate to match up with LSU again. The Michigan and Mizzou games should be fun to watch.

Maybe Gott is expecting a down year and didn't want to go so heavy on the non-con. Or maybe our ACC schedule is going to be tough enough alone.
