if competing with fsu and clemson is the goal. doeren has proven he can do that this year. 2 plays away from beating both of them. 2 plays away from beating ecu and bc too. i think losing to ecu and clemson because of the kicker, demotivated our players from playing the way they could and caused the other losses.

i'm tryiing to keep doeren because if we get a new coach the best case scenario is winning one or two more games while the most likely scenario is winning less games for a few years and then ending back where we are. the worst case scenario is being actual shitty for a while.

I'd rather see what Doeren can do. We've already invested 4 years in him why not just ride it out? He could be on the cusp.

"competing with FSU and Clemson" doesn't just mean when we play those teams head to head. it means competing on the same level as them. playing to a close loss vs Clemson and then losing to teams like BC is not the "competing with Clemson" that fans talk about. competing on the same level as those teams means being in position to win the division over those teams. yes, it's a lofty goal to say you wanna be at the top of this division. i didn't say that was my goal for this program, though and i don't think anybody has really outlined that as their realistic goal in the immediate future.

We have to be a lot better than clemson and fsu to win the division because we are locked into playing one of the best teams from the coastal each year while they rotate through all of the shitty teams twice.

This year, we played miami and unc while clemson played gt and pitt.

Louisville played shitty duke and shitty uva (almost lost both) and would be winning the division if we had our way.

Even if we beat clemson, fsu, bc, we still can't win the division because of the way things are setup. Its an impossible situation.

Also, don't even hope for a 3 way tie because then it goes to rankings which are pretty much based on preseason rankings where fsu will always be high because of their talent.

nobody would've made that argument 2 years ago about UNC. they are good right now. i don't expect them to maintain this level though. FSU plays Miami...are we calling them shitty now? F/+ has them as a top 20 level team. Clemson plays GT...they certainly weren't shitty in 2014 when they won the Orange Bowl and finished in the top 10. their 4 division titles since Paul Johnson took over would seem indicate that aren't shitty on a regular basis.

Time to reignite this baby up because the chances of him being offered a job at a major program are now higher than the chance of him ever being fired. I'm so torn. Doeren was the coach I wanted. His first year was atrocious. He's clearly brought in good talent, but the coaching mistakes are still there. We've outgained almost every opponent and we are 8-4. Not sure how is going to do any better than he did this year. Say what you want but if DD leaves I think we are in a good position to attract another up and coming coach.

For the record, I would totally be okay with Kiffin. His dad coached here so he is somewhat aware of us.
