The best teams play well on both sides of the ball. If being offensive minded wasn't feasible and didn't work at any level, it wouldn't exist. Needless to say, it does.

I'm with you about ASGs. However, you're insinuating that a shootout = bad defense when it could just as easily equate to good offense. In my experience snoozefests come as a result of coaches fully intending to minimize possessions by milking the shot clock. Some of that Hoosiers-era pass 8 times before shooting crap, or dribble around the backcourt until it gets to 15, then start running a play. Add to the fact that talent that can't hit shots when they actually execute and get open. That's not good defense, that's a strategy. I'll always have an appreciation for teams with good defense when it's there.
