Pros: landscape shots show a deep deep respect to those old Ralph McQuarrie paintings, it’s nice when you have time to linger on the environments… really cool 70s retro-futurism with the tech… like the slide projector and when they had the robot’s head open… the characters look great, and the vibe picked up as more of them were around each other and they were getting the band back together…

Cons: Stop fucking stabbing people so close to mortal areas and having them just bounce back… it felt wonky in obi-wan and it felt wonky here… if you don’t know Rebels, it’s gotta be kinda weird coming into this thing… I feel like they should have played up that that evil lady who fought Ahsoka as a Nightsister in Mando if they were gonna do this…

The plot is kind of weird so far, if you ask me. Like: Why would an ancient compass have a map to Thrawn? My guess is that it’s not really a map to Thrawn as much as it is a space-whale migration chart. But who knows.

I still highly enjoyed it.

^I felt the same way in the last Disney trilogy movie where they had to find that dagger that had cutouts that matched up to the Death Star remnants. I mean we're only talking what, 30 years passing since the thing exploded, so why try and make it feel like we're watching Indiana Jones.

Also side question isn’t it fairly significant that they travel to another galaxy? Doesn’t all of Star Wars just take place in 1 galaxy?

Best I could come up with is that Thrawn was ?banished? to some other galaxy and there were no star charts to connect Thrawn's galaxy to theirs. The map somehow provided a star chart so they could travel between galaxies. Without the star chart, going into hyperspace was too risky; might crash into a star or go in the wrong direction or something.

Something like that. I don't know extended Star Wars lore.

thoughts so far:

1. Please more Rebels together as a crew. Don't like that Hera/Chopper/KidWhoShouldHaveHeadBumps didn't jump. I hope there's a reason they didn't.

2. Feel like we're just building for Ezra/Thrawn showing up as a cliffhanger for 2026 instead of getting on with it. Has S2 already filmed too?

3. Miss the 1970s tech designs from the first couple episodes.

4. I still want to see the witch in more traditional Nightsister face makeup if she's gonna chew the scenery so much.

5. It still pisses me off how they stabbed Sabine at the beginning. There was no point. So much happened after that.

6. RIP that dark jedi dude. guess we're about done with him either way (still more eps, i reckon)

7. Love that fucking map shit at the end.

lol it had pretty much zero consequences. If the evil padawan was evil enough to want to kill her, why would she just stab her, then pull the lightsaber out cleanly? Why wouldn't she just cleave her whole body in half through that wound, ensuring instant death and no chance of recovery? If she isn't "fully" evil and didn't wanna kill her (doesn't sound like it given what we've seen of her), why not just have her knock Sabine out or something?

His kid, Kazuda, is the main character of Star Wars: Resistance, and the kid's def in the rebel camp and has beef with his dad. That show takes place during the ep 7-9 timeline (Poe shows up and BB-8 is on it for a good while.) Xiono is still a senator then, so unless they're revamping that storyline somehow, that would lead me to believe that he's not directly a spy, though he could seriously still bone stuff up.

And yes, like Frosh, I'm also sick of the dogs.

He knew they got there from the space whale’s overall migration. Took Asohka a while to figure that out, but surely there are resources for studying the space whale movements in general? That planet where they were in the clouds were full of them. Admittedly Asohka’s connection with the force is what allowed her to communicate with them.

"The Acolyte" so far has some really good fights, but I dunno how I feel about it. The special effects are kinda dubious at times, too. Some of the spaceship/setting shots feel like they needed to be refined. Probably usual timecrunch/overworked animators.

It is nice that most of this is a totally different time period. The mystery is interesting. Hopefully I'll start to care more when I settle in with the characters.

I read a pretty good review that I felt was accurate - it stated that this show, for the first time, feels like something made for TV. The reviewer was right…I can’t quite place my finger on why, but it feels a lot more like a Star Trek DS9 than say, The Mandalorian.
