I'm really liking it so far. (although i did have the demo so its not that much different)
only complaint so far is the driving physics. Its not quite as 'realistic' as forza 2 but that was expected. Graphics are out of this world though. Just wish i could capture in HD instead of SD. 4/16/2008 10:05:31 PM |

Yeah, I need to get out of the Beginer Online races. I'm assuming the hard ones have a higher penalty for slamming people into the wall. 4/16/2008 10:07:09 PM |

i raced once online and quit because some n00btard after I had passed everyone and gotten to the pole position decided it would be funny to just spin me out so he could pass me. not going to do beginners again. 4/16/2008 10:12:05 PM |

hey can you compete with the 'tuned' cars in the class A and B races?
like, i can use a GT for that american car race.. but will the "Ford Gt LM Spec II Test Car" work for those races also? i'd hate to spend the money and find out it won't let you or something i'm only asking because i don't think the concept by GT cars are listed in the allowable car lists... 4/16/2008 11:41:29 PM |

it is damn fun. kind of easy though even on pro mode w/ all aids and TCs off. i'm a race away from finishing B. I never cut through a GT game this fast before.
Call me crazy, but racing on ovals w/ 63hp cars is kinda fun. ha. Type R ftw. as usual it dominates in this game. 4/17/2008 8:46:34 AM |

It went live on the store at around midnight last night so I was able to play a bit this morning before work. Really fun so far, and I'm happy to see they fixed some of the graphical niggles that were in the demo. The anti-aliasing is better and the screen tearing/slowdown is completely gone. Not as good as the bullshots that have been posted around, but well, the amount of AA in those shots is probably impossible with any hardware in real time, let alone a PS3. 4/17/2008 8:57:02 AM |

thats my beef too. After playing forza which is very difficult with aids turned off, i half expected this to be the same. If i were to compare it i'd say having all aids off in GT5P is the same as having all aids ON in Forza 2.
and then there is the fact that you can't do things like trail brake.

What's the big difference between Standard and Pro mode? I've only tried standard. Is it just less forgiving when you fuck up? 4/17/2008 11:53:00 AM |

not really. its still very forgiving even with all the aids off.
however I am impressed with the road surface (visually) and sound effects. 4/17/2008 12:05:03 PM |

I've yet to use standard, so I'm not sure.
I figured since I've played GT through GT4, I can roll with professional.4/17/2008 12:34:48 PM |

he mean's a drifting brake more so than trail braking...
you can do it in GT games but it's usually always faster not to 4/17/2008 12:56:54 PM |
Golovko All American 27023 Posts user info edit post |
^no actually i don't mean a drifting brake because i would have said drifting brake if i did.
drifting brake is not the same thing as trail brake and yes it will slow you the fuck down.
trail brake however will not.
Quote : | "why can't you trail brake?" |
i'm guessing the 'physics engine' just doesn't quite know what to do so it just brakes normally and doesn't effect the direction of the car.

trail brake means braking into the turn of a corner. ie, you start turning under braking which rotates the car.
It does it. Try it w/ the Mini Cooper. Its especially obvious going 150mph around the ring. lift hard or tap the brakes. the back end steps right out. Thats the same weight transfer under turning principle 4/17/2008 2:02:35 PM |

trail braking is any braking done after the turn in to the peak of the turn 4/17/2008 2:11:22 PM |

^^ yes
So I have a second copy of GT5 Prologue. My press copy was supposed to come in a few days ago but didn't, so I bought a copy with full intentions of returning the press copy (usually unmarked) to get my money back.
Well they punched my bar code.
I'll put the new, unused disc into the unmarked package and sell it to someone if they're interested. The game sells for $39, so I'll sell it for $35. 4/17/2008 3:18:22 PM |

B and C were pretty easy but A has a few races that are more challenging (the daytona race with the F430 was particularly fun/hard), and i believe that will unlock an 'S' class of races that's damn near impossible to beat.
Also, check out the races available for the different makes and models at the dealerships, i found the 'GT-R only' race inside the nissan dealership to be really hard to beat. The type-R race was hard also, you sort of bide your time for four laps and slingshot up during the last lap, it takes a lot of patience!4/17/2008 3:19:47 PM |

are you homos using a steering wheel? or the controller?
i heard the newest wheel is coming out soon. true? 4/17/2008 3:48:34 PM |

steering wheel. its hard as shit w/ a controller. I have a Logitech Driving Force Pro. its the GT4 wheel for PS2. Works for PS2, PS3, and PC. You can get em for under a hundred bucks and ti works fine. 4/17/2008 3:54:02 PM |

wow, I need to try that shit.

for sure imo. but i'm not a big gamer so i'm not very smooth w/ the analog joysticks. its much easier for me to be precise and smooth w/ the steering wheel. 4/17/2008 4:12:04 PM |

damn, well if anyone has a wheel and is willing to let me give it a try, I'd love to see if I dig it before sinking ~$150 into a peripheral that I think blows.

this may sounds stupid, but....
i have a 1st gen 20gb ps3, bought that christmas that they were first available. i have an ethernet cord run across the room to the router to connect it the intarwebs. when i look in the user manual (online) under internet connection setup, the picture shows that there should be a screen after you select Easy setup that says Wired or Wireless. i do not have this screen. i have a wireless router for the computer and stuff. maybe i'm just dumb, but do i need to buy something extra to get this set up wirelessly and/or is my ps3 just special and doesn't have all the same hardware as the newer ones?
4/18/2008 12:02:21 PM |
Arab13 Art Vandelay 45180 Posts user info edit post |
it should only have wired, (the 20's from what i recall didn't have wifi) so wired is default, you should be able to plug it into one of the wired ports in the back of your router and set it up through that. (mac filtering not withstanding) 4/18/2008 12:07:22 PM |
