doesn't go bad for awhile buy it to drink it though, don't do it for trading because in the next couple months the market is going to be flooded with BCBS, due to production increase.

CO is getting some next week.... can't wait! and Abyss....

I had a couple of these the other day and thoroughly enjoyed them. It is a citrusy saison but very balanced.

So Craggie in Asheville is closing Dec 1 - they catch some hate, but I thought they made a couple nice beers, appreciated the experimentation, and the space was pretty cool. They weren't great at anything though, and hopefully this tightens up the local market a bit as another brewery has already claimed their spot.

A few decent pickups lately: GI BCS, Rumpkin, went to the Hardywood Gingerbread Release, got phishnlou to bring me a Cascade Noyaux and mule an Event Horizon for me from Brawley's, and some promising winter travels coming up.

Anyone had OSA or Narwhal yet? Picked up a few of those as well.

picked up a sixer of this today on my way home from work. I've been a bit obsessed with black IPAs over the last several month. I was expecting this to be a watered down version of the "big bottle" bIPAs I've picked up, but I'm pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely pick another sixer of this up before the season ends

I think I'm going to bring a St. Bernardus Tokyo up to Charlotte tonight for my father-in-law and I to split. Probably bringing one of their wits, a red rocket ale, a GD Belgian Yeti, and a Southern Tier Creme Brulee to Thanksgiving tomorrow.

I drank my 2011 Cold Mountain and wasn't a huge fan, might just be that I don't like winter ales much.

Very disappointing haul in VA this week; was too late for BCBS and Bolt Cutter. The only real beer I bought was GI Madam Rose. My mom had bought me some Schlafly Christmas, and GL Christmas to drink around the house.

Just picked up some Event Horizon from Olde Hickory. Anyone tried the Sam Adams gingerbread stout? Saw it at the bottle shop but didn't pick it up. I really liked their Fat Jack, so may need to give this seasonal a try as well...

4 x OHB Event Horizon
2 x Highland Cold Mountain
1 x SN Harvest Northern Hemisphere
1 x Sam Smith Organic Chocolate Stout

The event horizon release at Duckworth's was a lot of fun. Was late for the bottle share, but got a flight of 12, 12 cask, 11, and 7 Devils.

I think I'm already over Cold Mountain for the season.

yes. my username is my first initial and last name.

went to a fun bottle share last night. no real theme, just a random draw. Here were some highlights

FFF Dark Lord 2011
FFF Topless Wytch
FFF Mutiny & the Mollusk Oyster Stout
Firestone Walker 15th
Deschutes Black Butte 14
Thomas Hardy 1991
Lost Abbey Red Poppy
RR Salvation
RR Temptation
Central Waters Bbl Barleywine
New Glarus Enigma
and a couple Loons

My suspicions were confirmed, I'm not a fan of Dark Lord. Way too sweet and glad it's not a beer I ever actively sought out.

No, people in Denver picked it up pretty quick... it also came during GABF week and I'm not sure we got a lot of it here

In other good news, BCBS & Abyss hit this week.

I opened a bottle of Brooklyn Local 2 the other night that I've been inadvertently aging for ~2.5 years. Man, it was tasty! I need another bottle to compare it to.

My "daily drinks" (I'm guessing this is something you will drink three or four at a sitting at the bar) are usually brown/amber ales or darker lagers/ales. I could pound stouts/porters because I love them so much, but I try not to drink the heavy beers that often. And I enjoy a good IPA, but no more than one or two at a time.

That being said...I like to always keep a 6-pack of Bells Brown Ale in the fridge. I've taken a recent liking to a Railhouse Brown Ale (NC I believe) that one of my favorite local bars has started to carry. And I know it's gotten extremely mainstream...but I still like Fat Tire. During the Winter I like to keep some Sammy Smith Winter Welcomes in the fridge as well.

I guess those would be me "daily" drinks. But my office (and house) are ridiculously close to the local beer shop (Charleston Beer Exchange), so I usually have mini and regular sized growlers of all different types. It's quite convenient. I don't have a lot of space for a large bottle storage...so a couple growlers will do.

"daily beers" for me really depends on the season. in the spring i like to stock up on Highland Little Hump. in the fall and winter it's usually their oatmeal porter. Little Hump, Founders All Day IPA, and Lagunitas Fractional IPA are all great to just grab a quick bottle and enjoy.

Smuttynose Old Brown Dog is another 6-pack i buy with some regularity.

I don't really have a daily right now. Typically I only drink except on weekends or if we have friends over at the house during the week (which isn't that common). Because of this, I usually end up trying some new stuff or opening something that I don't have all the time. Or, I just tend to keep more 750s around of a lot of different stuff so I don't have enough of a single beer to be a regular.

If I don't feel like trying something new or something I don't have often, I'm always down for anything by St. Bernardus, Ommegang, or Unibroue and I do keep plenty of that around (in different varieties though).

That reminds me though, the St. Bernardus Tokyo was fantastic.

sorry but wouldn't darker ales = stouts/porters (generally)? -- and what darker lagers are you drinking regularly? (this is mostly just a curiosity -- schwarzbiers or bocks or something?)

honestly not trying to pick on your beer tastes, i just hate how dark/light beer color became a beer description to the average person (not saying you, just the average person) and also was confused about the darker ales not including porters...

When I say "darker ale", I'm usually talking about a brown/amber ale compared to a pale ale. Stouts/Porters are much different than those, IMO. I don't see anything wrong with characterizing that by color as they are pretty different.

And there are pale lagers, like New Belgiums Shift (which I do like)...and Budweisers and Yuenglings of course. I go more towards the Marzen/Oktoberfests.

strong ales, barleywines, etc for ales
dopplebocks, eisbock, rauchbier, schwarzbier, etc for lagers

ill drink a metric fuckton of barleywines and strong ales in the winter.

"darker lagers" not so much.

Odell St. Lupulin

Upslope Brown
Avery White Rascal
Firestone Pale 31
Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin
Great Divide Hades
