Why is UNC football frequently referred to as a "sleeping giant"? I assume because of their big basketball program (national brand and all) and the fact that NC has pretty good high school talent and no big time football program within the state?

I'm sure it's my bias, but I'd think State is closer to being a "sleeping giant" than UNC. Given our better facilities, better football fan base, and we have put some pretty good players the NFL recently. We don't have the national brand that UNC does...but that's solely their basketball program. Nobody gives a shit about UNC football on a national level.

Yeah Renner is going to set a bunch of records for them even though that is not saying much. Dude has a girl arm. Honestly though Darian Durant is the best QB UNC has had in the past two decades IMO. He was just ahead of his time as he'd probably make an NFL roster now with the read option offenses.

^^ I think time has fucked up your opinion of Darian Durant. He was black and could scramble a bit...but he's nothing like Wilson/Griffin/Kaepernick and the rest of the good read option QBs. He was also just as short as Wilson (and less athletic and not as good a passer). He only has all of the UNC records because UNC QBs have historically sucked and he started for four years.

He was a decent QB...but he would not be an NFL QB had he "come along at the right time."
