The 579 in Cary Towne Center is closing and has a bunch of long-sleeved plain colored T-shirts for $5 or so.

I finally got some new bras today. It's awesome.

It dawned on me that, oh, shit, I have a wedding to go to in July.
I tried on this dress, but didn't love it enough to buy it. More than likely, whatever dress I buy will need to be altered some.

Even though my arms are flabby (but, getting firmer - I was surprised at how much better they look when I tried this on), it's WAY better without the jacket or the belt that comes with.

I also tried on this dress, just because the sales lady wanted to see it on someone (it had just come in), and she'd been very helpful today. It was a GREAT example of LB's really shitty design department: (effective) cap sleeves for fat chicks, inappropriate fabric, horrible detailing (in the back, the was an extra panel below the yoke. Vertical shirring...wtf), and a concept that made it about 20% to success. Part of the problem is that
1) they seem to design on a normal-sized basis (be that 8 or 14, it doesn't matter), and then they grade up all the way to 28 or something.
2) There's no quality control
3) There's no modesty, or critical thinking put into the design process. I have seen size 28 miniskirts at Lane Bryant

Shit...the models they use in promotional materials are, at most, a size 12...and probably closer to a size 8.

If you can get a pair that has strings that wrap around your leg about halfway to your calves then get those.

I am thinking of them for the summer time but it won't be for a few paychecks that i'll get them, maybe they'll go on sale.

i like the style. i (myself) would prefer a lighter metallic like a gold or a silver or just a lighter bronzy color but that is just more my taste. i like the style of the sandal though!

Not really.

LB is 80% inappropriate/hoochie; catherine's is 98% schoolteacher/granny

well, thats the great divide in brick and mortar plus size stores, and online stores too, it would seem. Lane Bryant and the other charming shoppes stores have been struggling for the past few years and the new CEO is trying to bring the style of his former non-plus size stores to LB and make catherine's the more "sensible" store. so if you don't like what LB is serving up, take another look at catherine's. the one at briar creek is supposed to be better stocked than the old crabtree one.

I know what they're doing.

And I'm saying they're failing miserably (you could say that's all LB is doing), and offered why.

I'm not newly fat. I have a fat mother. I do know the clothing options

That's one thing that sucks about LB. It seems to only cater to fattie clubbers. At least they have a decent selection of bras bigger than a B cup

^^that pink dress? i see from the picture that it's old navy, right? i bought the exact same dress last summer in black/white polka dots. it was towards the end of the summer when i got it and i still haven't worn it, but i hope to pull it out soon. my only complaint is i'm not such a fan of the polyester material.

this is a random question. but what is a good lifespan on bras? i mean they wear out, right? i don't feel like my bras are very supportive. or very push upy. i mean my boobs aren't that big so maybe i can't tell. but i don't feel like my bras are doing anything. i must be wearing the wrong size. but most of mine are pretty old so i don't know. should i measure???

what are good bras?

I'm lucky if my bras still work well after six months, but the weight of my boobs tends to accelerate wear and tear on any bra, really. I probably end up wearing mine for at least a year before getting a new "everyday" bra (by the time a year has passed, things are bad enough that I definitely need something new). I love Wacoal bras: they're more expensive, but very worth it.

all of my bras are like 2-3 years old. that is gross i guess. and they're all the same bra (in different colors) from VS. i seriously think they are like done working. my boobs aren't that big but i feel like after a few years they have got to be worn out. its not like they are saggy or anything, the bra just doesn't feel supportive at all. i will look at the Wacoal bras.

figleaves.com has a wide variety of supportive bras

and women rate them (discussing things like quality, support, etc)

you can return bras for free if you don't like them, too

I've had some from Fredericks that are several years old and still look like new. Worn regularly, but I do have several of them.

the wrong way

i just launder them like everything else. my mom has told me not to 1000 times but i still do it because i'm dumb. sometimes if i remember i'll run to the dryer and pull them out and hang them up.

but i think this may be the problem?!

My VS bras haven't worn out yet, I've had some of them for 2+ years.

But I launder mine correctly...

maybe that's your problem?

yea i do not launder mine correctly. that is definitely it. but also i do not think i am wearing the right size because they aren't comfortable. but they might have been comfortable once and i've just ruined them by washing (drying) them wrong. i can't remember!!

either way i didn't know if VS bras were like what people considered the "best" or if i should try some of the other brands/sites that have already been recommended.

I've always thought VS was a brand that was once a superior brand worth the price, but has degraded, and is coasting along on brand recognition and loyalty.

I could be wrong, though. I shop in a different bra universe.

BTW, I LOVE my new bras

My VS bras have lasted YEARS as opposed to other bras I've bought. I don;t see ANY problems with their quality on bras.

On the panties they don't seem to last as long before they get holes and shit in them.

khcadwal, another thing I forgot to mention is getting a garment bag. If I put the bras in with everything else I am likely to forget about them, but the garment bag is easy to remove before it all goes in the dryer. I need to get a second one for bottoms.

Like everything else that seems perfect, or close enough...the bras weren't.

The eyes weren't anchored and were coming out after one wear

So now I'm back in my old bras, and I want to cry

are jean skirts still in style? not like mini skirts. specifically one like this:

it is pleated, yes. going through my closet and i have this and i thought it would be cute (when i bought it) but now i've never worn it and don't know what to do with it (keep it or get rid of it). i don't know what to wear it with. i was thinking just a basic t shirt (maybe not even tucked in like in the pic) and wedges or cute shoes, but i dunno. i just tried it on. i can't decide. what do we think?

see i feel like it can be cute, even with boots or something but i don't feel like it is on me. it is like, too conservative or something. here is another pic that is kinda more like mine:

I was just wondering that about a jean skirt of mine yesterday. It's not pleated though. It hits a little below the knee, and I think it makes me look ... stubby or something because denim is a heavy fabric and I am really short.

I like the second one a lot better so if yours is more like that I vote keep it. If you will actually wear it.

^^^ i know! mine is kind of thick fabric too. i can't decide. i wanted to wear it really high up with a white top but, that looked dumb. i just tried.

^^ hmmm i will try it with that and report back haha.

i might be getting rid of it though, i just don't know. i feel like it would be cute on someone else. probably someone taller!! sigh!

Can I wear this dress to a fall wedding if I get it in green, or is it too matronly? I feel like it covers too much skin.
