just got to my dad's house in n. ral

no where near the amt limbs/trees/greenery/etc all over the ground as there was downtown/ncsu/cv area...there are some big branches and shit

what there IS is a lot of is whack debris...carried from downtown? sanford? i have no idea. wet insulation everywhere. metal sheets (like tin roof type stuff) and metal structural pieces, siding, shutters, weird stuff everywhere in my yard. its like the storm was all angry, then got to n. ral and just dropped all of its shit and was like, peace.

does not compare to downtown. or the pending doom i felt at work when the bottom dropped out. still a REALLY eerie image. i was like 1.5 - 2 miles away from downtown with a perfect view of the skyline. well. until everything went black/covered in hail. closer than ncsu and dhill where that one crazy picture was taken. which is basically similar to what i could see from where i was. that was close enough to a tornado for me.

no fatalities out of the s. saunders/raleigh blvd/glascock/oakwood area yet, right?

There were totally tornado(s?) up near Buffalo Road and New Hope in raleigh. I was there. Went down my boyfriends street. Piece of a fence got tossed in to my car. I have a couple of pics but the damage is MUCH worse just a few houses up but my phone had gone dead by the time it quit raining enough we went up that way. He has photos that when he sends me I may post here. Depending on when I get them. Friends house has 2 trees through it too. Some of the neighborhoods off New Hope are TOTALLY screwed up.

And this is nothing really, nothing at all. i wish i had had the battery to take more of what happened off new hope. there are HUGE trees ripped up by the root balls. it's......hrm. nature is big and i am small. very, very small.

So I was at my house just off South Saunders and saw the rotation was coming right for me, so before it even crossed into Wake County I went up to my folks' house off Millbrook Road.

My neighborhood off S. Saunders is absolutely trashed but my house is okay; parents' house is fine and not much damage in the surrounding streets, then I find out houses were leveled a mile east and people died a mile west.

Holy shit.

they have trucks in a couple places on gorman, but there is also a tree down on the lines on merwin that no one was at, so depending on where you are it may be awhile.

That was so scary y'all. I am terrified of big storms so it made things worse.

They sounded alarms here in my building so me and the dog went downstairs and sat in a hallway. I could hear the hail pounding on the steel doors then it got real quiet. That was all I'm just so thankful to be alive.

We lost power during the storm and it just came back on like 10 min ago.

I live on Glenwood just inside the beltline btw.

Reports coming in from Askewville and Colerain in Bertie County, and it sounds like just about everything has been leveled. My Aunt and Uncle lost everything, their home, their cars.

it's amazing how safe a small space can be

that body shop on south saunders is two blocks from my house and the only things standing are the bathroom (where the two employees were) and one cinder block wall

goes to show, when an area receives a "high" risk from the storm prediction center, you can pretty much guarantee tornadoes...

they don't issue high risks often... last time for NC was 1984...

Late report from roanoke rapids.

Was sitting in my dining room here and all of a sudden it felt like my ears needed to pop like on an airplane. Looked out the window and rain was going up.

I could see shingles swirling over a hundred feet in the air. Trees were coming down. Our sonic, cvs, elementary school, several other businesses all got hit and their roofs destroyed.

All traffiic is routed through my block, and we have a curfew. Its nuts

Could anyone else in Cary hear the tornado? I was taking a nap when my room went dark, hail started hitting the windows, and there seemed to be a low steady thunder. At first I thought it was just a long thunder clap but it just kept going. I probably should have headed into my closet but my cats were acting chill so I figured all was well. Probably a retarded decision on my part but I didn't want to get out of bed

Me, my girlfriend, and my best friend went cruising for damage photos.

The lower-income neighborhoods west of downtown were stomped. Probably a hundred trees down total, we saw at least 60 (lots of pictures). Power lines down on every block. We followed the tornado's path south towards Saunders. We couldn't get closer to South Saunders at all, dozens of police were blocking it. Major, major damage. We found where the tornado crossed the interstate, trees just demolished in the path.

Pictures incoming tonight. 60 total. A few houses broken down, lots of trees and lines, some pictures of Moore Square beat up (the tents and platforms they had set up for whatever event was going to go on are everywhere).

there's a huge dent in the acorn

i'd like to see what hit it

i walked all around saunders after my first post and there's a lot more damage to homes than i thought initially

nearly every large tree on the fayetteville st. side of mt. hope cemetary is either snapped in half or pulled out of the ground

a huge tree next to the legislative building pulled out of the ground and tore up everything around it

the neighborhoods to the south and east of oakwood are devastated

i'm a lucky fucker

i talked to someone that was at the cuegrass thing today. they said they stayed until the clouds got dark and ominous, then headed out.. i'm betting there weren't a lot of people keen on being outside in Raleigh once sanford got walloped with a tornado

Netstorm i'd like to see those pics whenever you get them uploaded n stuff

No tornadoes or significant hail in Point Harbor (most southern Currituck). WTKR live weather coverage is pretty bad. WRAL's meteorologists are so much better.

Drove back into town on New Bern Ave and the power is out the entire length of it between Wakemed and downtown. Pretty spooky.
