just recorded my first replay. I will give the PS3 one thing over the Xbox360. Its a hell of a lot easier to record game footage in SD on the PS3 than the Xbox360. Simply because with the Xbox360 I have to power off the console, switch it from HD output to SD output then restart. With the PS3 I can just go in the settings menu and switch the output to a different source.

man S class is really frustrating, you get these really lame ass penalties if your car makes contact with other cars. Even if it's one of the other motherfuckers that runs into you the game still penalizes you and you can't hit the gas for like 5 seconds, it's horseshit.
And i don't disagree with the 'shortcut' penalty, but it blows that it doesn't apply to the CPU and it does to you... oh well, 4 more races to go.

is the G25 Racing Wheel worth getting over the 'official GT5P' wheel? I've been looking at both and just wondering if twice the cost is worth it. I'm really digging the gearbox on the G25 and of course the clutch, but i don't think the clutch is supported in anything except NFS: Pro Street. 4/19/2008 11:17:15 AM |

I'm sure he was talking about the G25, 90% of the people at those game stores know less then you do.

is this game worth it? I mean how much content is in the prologue?
I'm not a big racing fan at all, although I liked DiRT quite a bit. Not sure if 40 bucks for a big demo is worth it. How many tracks / cars? 4/19/2008 1:17:16 PM |
Shrike All American 9594 Posts user info edit post |
It's not like turning off traction control and ABS makes the game more realistic. Every car made these days has those things.
^I dunno, that's something you'll have to decide for yourself. I haven't really been a huge fan of racing games that weren't rallyx or had "Kart" in the title, but this is fun. It strikes a nice balance between simulation and arcade so that it's realistic, but not to the point of frustration. It doesn't hurt that it looks phenomenal. Is it worth $40? I'll probably play it longer than I've played some $50 or $60 games, so yeah.

RawWulf All American 9126 Posts user info edit post |
yeah man.
the 40gb is only backwards compatible with PS1 title, but it runs quieter (nearly silent)
Since I still have my PS2, this wasn't really an issue for me. So picked up the 40gb and upgraded the HDD to 120gb.
it also has fewer USB slots; but everything it wireless anyway.

I pretty much run folding 24/7 except when I unhook it to take to work.
and I've yet to run into a problem.

Shrike All American 9594 Posts user info edit post |
The cooling is the same, but the fans on the 40GB generally run quieter because the chips themselves don't produce as much heat as the previous SKUs. But if you're going to run F@H 24/7, it really won't make much of a difference.
In any case, this whole discussion is a little moot unless you're planning on buying a used/refurbished console, because the 60/80GB are both discontinued and off store shelves. So you're choosing between the current 40GB model or the 80GB model coming in June with MGS4 and a DS3 packed in. In fact, it's very likely that the new 80GB will have further revised internals and run as or even cooler/quieter than the current 40GB. 4/21/2008 1:23:21 PM |

Yeah, they are solid consoles. Mine took a power surge to the face (no protector), shut off, and I was able to get it back on no problem. There was some chatter about a GPU overheating issue but I don't think anything ever came of it, just a bad batch probably. 4/21/2008 2:17:12 PM |
FanatiK All American 4248 Posts user info edit post |
THe problem was that the system fan shut down when the Wii was put in standby mode (WiiConnect on). Heat buildup in the system caused the GPUs to melt.
A firmware update was released that kept the fan on in standby --> problem solved.
I still keep WiiConnect off on my console, though. Just out of habit at this point, I guess. 4/21/2008 2:37:19 PM |
