7.65mm? I looked all over and picked up a 1964 PPK a few years back just because I heard that the .380 S&W models really sacrificed reliability for the larger caliber.

Yup, 7.65 x 17mm . . . and no, my fingers remain intact. I'm a big fan of the thumbs forward grip, so I avoided that It did gently graze me on the first shot though. 1/26/2010 9:39:26 AM |

for a p226, that's not bad
if I were to spend 500 on a semi auto polymer gun though, it'd be a M&P 9 (American made and it shoots really consistently for me)
just personal preference (which is all it really comes down to)- I love my Taurus, but that is because I'm used to the long trigger pull now and it just feels comfortable to me 1/26/2010 6:28:32 PM |

Well, I have 1k of .40 coming and 500 rounds of .223 inbound. I can sell that for the same cost as walmart, but you can buy as much as you want. If I sell it all, then I will just buy more. I don't mind selling it at cost, because I get 1% back on my credit card.
I'll be putting in an order for 9mm in the next week or two. I can save on shipping if people agree to pay up front and I order in larger quantities. 1/27/2010 12:20:13 AM |

New or reloads?
On another note.
Does anyone know if Georgia Arms sells reloads or new or both?
Their website does not say (unless I am blind).

All mine is new stuff, brass case.
Georgia arms is a commercial reloader. I have run a mixed 2k of the canned heat and had no problems. I believe you can also purchase new ammo from them, but it is more expensive.

So, I have made some progress on my AR build. I need to pick a barrel now, and then some hand guards. I'm going with a FF quad rail in 10'' I believe, but I don't know what brand yet. Its going to be a mid-length gas system.

Good on going middy. If you decide you're after plain ol' hanguards and not the rail thing, the Magpul MOE handguard is very nice. For a rail, the YHM rails are the best bang for your buck, IMO.

Ordered rails last night. I was deciding between MI, YHM, and Troy. I ended up getting the MI-T10 rails in FDE.
A mid length pencil barrel will be available in two weeks, and I may hold out for that. I can save $100 if I go with a mid weight profile though. I'm just not sure yet. 2/4/2010 10:52:08 AM |

Anyone on here ever been unable to get the stock off a gun? I have a generic 12 ga Mossberg that is freaking impossible to get off. Just looking for any tips before I put a pole on the handle of a pipe wrench (connected to the screwdriver) and torque the living shit out of the bolt in the end. 2/4/2010 1:31:55 PM |

It's probably rusted on. I've had to use a wrench before to break one loose, but it wasn't that difficult with a wrench. Maybe stick a little penetrating oil on it. The last thing you want to do is screw up the screw slot torquing it too much.

I didn't have a problem getting mine off, but when trying to put on an aftermarket collapsable stock, I actually have to do some machining to both the gun and the bracket the kit came with- took me 2 days to put on a damn stock just because I didn't anticipate it being such a PITA 2/4/2010 3:21:55 PM |

Now, I read somewhere else that for citizens, 18 inches is the limit for a shotgun barrel, but these are 14 inches, and that a small barrel like that would be used specifically for combat situations...like busting down a door/entry. Yes, the legal minimum barrel length is 18 inches with an overall minimum length of 26 inches. Citizens can own short barreled shotguns (<18") so long as the jump through the legal hoops to get them. 2/5/2010 11:38:12 AM |

Anyone own or have first hand experience with the Kahr P9?
The PM9 is a little too small for me, but the P9 felt good. I really liked the slim profile for daily carry. One guy at a gun shop really praised it and had lots of nice things to say. The next gun shop i went to told me to avoid the Kahr completely.
other than that i held a lot of guns today. The decision just gets harder. so many options

that is really all you need to do- just go through and hold/fire everything you can (that is in and slightly above your price rage)
you will hear good and bad things about every gun out there, but do good searches on what you are hearing. I'd stay away from things that had repeated reliability issues, but there are such things as lemons, even in the gun industry (ex: friend has an EMP that he has already sent back once and is still jamming up on him- does not change the fact that it is a very highly rated and recommended small carry pistol, but he will probably never buy one again) 2/8/2010 6:17:54 AM |

the Springfield EMP? Which one of the guys owns that one??? I didn't find one to hold this past weekend but they look good.
My brother fell in love with the Colt New Agent which is similar.
Right now i like the following Springfield XD Kahr P9 Sig Sauer 250 S&W MP Compact 9mm Bersa Thunder .380
and for a revolver option Ruger SP101

^I would drop the XD and the Sig P250 immediately. They are the largest of your options, for one, and the P250 has a long, heavy, DA trigger that is either love or hate. 2/8/2010 11:05:12 AM |

I'm assuming this is for CC?
Springfield XD - the compact/subcompact are good options but probably bigger than most Kahr P9 - decent option Sig Sauer 250 - expensive and slightly larger than most S&W MP Compact 9mm - not sure (not very familiar with this one; but bound to be a good carry piece) Bersa Thunder .380 - small, inexpensive, but cheaply made (I have one)... if you have money to spend, don't go with this as your main CC (I do right now... if I had money & CCd more, I'd get a better peice)
all of those (except for the bersa) are good or better firearms and would be on my list of firearms to carry

good feedback, i appreciate it.
I saw and held so many guns over the weekend that I had forgotten about that long trigger pull on the Sig250. That was the one thing i disliked the most.
^yeah, my brother recommended the Bersa as a value piece if i wanted to scale back and save a little money. They had the single stacked version as well as the plus, which had a double stacked clip. I would just assume move up to 9mm at that point as you begin losing the space saving advantage of the .380. 2/8/2010 11:15:13 AM |
wdprice3 BinaryBuffonary 45912 Posts user info edit post |
yeh, double stacks can start to get wide. personally, I wouldn't go with one because it becomes too big and makes it uncomfortable to carry (for me). .380 is a good SD round, but I'm not sure how much space it saves.... it's the same diameter as a 9 (in fact, it's a 9x17 round, where as most 9mm now are 9x19)

one of my favorite 9mm compact guns- shot with it a couple of times, accurate every time (more so than my 24/7) and it felt good, and smaller than the 24/7 so it would be better for CC
then again, I'm a bigger dude, so CC with a larger gun isn't that big of a deal for me
out of that list, it would be my favorite2/8/2010 10:21:57 PM |

About to refinish a walnut 10/22 stock just for fun. Anyone seen any nice restos on them? If so, post up links. A quick search revealed a refinish of a birch stock which I can get pretty cheap off eBay. I may go that route if I can't get a good look out of this walnut one. I might go with a dark chocolate or even black stain on the walnut stock, but if I go birch I'll make it as light as possible with a little hint of color. This gun also has a few rust spots on the barrel that I need to take care of if anyone has any recommendations. I really haven't spent much time looking into it yet.
p.s., I'd like to pick up a big magazine for it if anyone has one for sale.

I don't want a macro or pocket gun because with some other things i'm trying to afford this year, a house being the main one, i doubt i'll be getting too many guns. So i want one that i can carry daily but also not get burnt out with it at the range. I do dig the Ruger LCP though, that's a pretty sweet little piece.
^i'll be up there this weekend so i'm sure we'll get a chance to discuss this some more. But i do like that 642. Though i'd like an exposed hammer, even for CC. The 637 with the crimson trace laser grip is very nice and almost identical to what i was holding in the Ruger SP101, except the Ruger is .357
