Crisp was a monster last night on the field, definitely a man among boys, Singer had some nice hits and isn't very big but definitely has good reaction and foot speed.

dgspencer do you think Singer is better fit as a CB on the college level even though he's listed as a safety on the recruiting sites? I know he runs the 40 in 4.5 which isn't bad at all.

and?

unless you are calling for a new coaching staff, the only offer that should matter is NC State's.

^^let's not play that game

Besides Russell Wilson being only a 2* his only other offer was from Duke. Brosius had offers from 3 BCS schools in UVA, Pitt, and Maryland, as well as an offer from another FBS school in UCF. Now I'm not saying Brosius will be as good as Russell Wilson, but let's let the kid get into school and actually play a down before we trash him and his offer list.

exactly. we dont need to start doing this "well russell was 2* and Phil was 3*, so this kid could be the next russell or phil!" the only rating that should really better is whether or not our coaches felt the kid was good enough to merit a scholarship offer. I mean, we werent even planning to offer a QB this year, but clearly this kid showed something that made our coaches think it was worthwhile to change things up.

While Brosius's offer list isn't all that impressive, just look at the QB ratings on ESPN for the top 50 (Brosius is #4y). The top prospect is graded as an 83, while Brosius is a 77. That tells me that the difference between prospects is rather small, if not razor thin.

Brosius strikes me as a good pickup b/c his main weakness appears to be discipline and mechanics. He'll get a strong dose of training in both of those at NC State. If TOB liked him enough to make an offer then it stands to reason that he believes Brosius is "coachable" (i.e. he's got the right mind-set to correct those discipline and mechanical errors with good coaching). We'll see how it pans out of course. QB's are always the toughest players to judge before they actually get some PT.

Either way, kudos for TOB and his staff bringing in another solid QB prospect

i wouldnt ever use espns recruiting rankings. their guys probably know less about recruits than wph

with that said in brosius' videos it looks like he has the arm and ability to stand in the pocket and take a hit. hopefully tob and bible can coach the rest up b/c its hard to tell how much ability he needs when half his passes are 40 yard bombs to 5'5 white guys

I wonder how this will affect Amerson's decision. I would assume this makes ND more appealing since we have 3 safeties committed vs. their 1.

Green will probably play OLB. Johnson will be a S, Amerson will be S or CB. I don't think he'll be worried.

Singer to me doesn't have the size to play safety at the college level. I'd put him at cornerback instead.

Johnson can play either WR or S. Amerson can play either S or CB. And Green can probably bulk up to be an OLB.

I'm really happy about the commitment from Johnson. We won't have to worry about him qualifying, he's got good size, and is supposedly a high character kid. His offer list is legit and he had some other high profile schools interested too. I mean I know we didn't exactly beat out a 5* type program, but the fact that we were able to pull a guy out of a state that's a decent amount away all while going up against programs similar to ours is a great sign. Recruiting success for us will be to lock down the state every year and get some quality national recruits. Now if Amerson will just commit I'll feel much better about our future at safety.

Schools Interested (known offers in italics)
North Carolina State
Connecticut
Louisville
Maryland
Michigan State
Minnesota
Stanford
Syracuse
Vanderbilt
Virginia
West Virginia

Ohio State
Penn State
Pittsburgh
Virginia Tech

With the commitment of Johnson we have moved into Rivals Top 25 recruiting class rankings as of now. We're sitting pretty at the #24 spot. We are 4th in the ACC after VT (14), Clemson (16), and Miami (21). If Amerson commits then we'd get a pretty big boost since he's a 4* on their site. FWIW we are #31 on Scout and 6th in the ACC after Miami (20), Clemson (22), VT (25), FSU (29), and GT (30).

it's too bad the staff is almost out of scholarships

a full year (26-27 commits) and this class would be looking at borderline top 20

We have 4 scholarships left according to toddl's table on PP. Say one goes to Amerson and one goes to Eric Young if he gets his academics in order, that leaves us 2 more. I say we take a RB and a LB. Now we could have more spots if someone leaves the program or someone doesn't qualify. Attrition is unfortunately a reality of college football.

^ it seems safe to assume that their will be some of both (attrition and non-qualifiers). I think we will probably sign a few extras. I'd love to get Amerson though. Interesting thought though, if Charlie Weis doesn't start looking better (they've squeaked by the last two weeks), he might be on an even hotter seat when it comes time to sign, and the kids who had us and ND neck and neck, like Kendall Moore and Shembo, might come back. All big "ifs" of course.

definitely doesn't have the footspeed for a corner, but I could see him being a solid rover if he put on some size... not sure if there's really a place for that in Archer's defense but either way, he's going to have to put some weight on. He had one nice return on a kickoff but that wasen't very telling... both teams looked terrible.

I think if we can get Amerson, a DT, OL(preferably guard), and a LB/TE, I think we'll be set.

But with a few players with academics in question, I wouldn't be surprised to see us looking at other players.

Also B. Underwood is no longer listed as a commit because he is not expected to have the grades to make it into State this year. Hopefully he can get them up and be put back on the commitment list, would love to have him back in the fold.

Son of a bitch! Notre Dame leads for Amerson right now. TOB & Co. better get Amerson here this weekend. I don't care if some booster has to pick him up in their tailgating bus on the way to the game, this cat better not end up going to ND after we've lead for so long. I'm tired of losing top talent to these god damn programs that like to cherry pick our state! Especially when it's Fat Ass! I can't stand that pompous clown.

I get what you are saying but it goes both ways. We just took one of the best safeties from New Jersey in Johnson. I don't know many people who expected that before it happened. On PP at least it appeared as a surprise.

So we need Notre Dame to lose even more? I already pull against those fuckers every week. They started the year ranked for God's sake and I dare say we and about any team in the ACC minus Duke and UVA could take them. If Weis gets fired, does it help or hurt, that is a good question.

he would have committed a while back if not for his family wanting him to make sure he explored all his options

Prior to Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley safety David Amerson’s official visit for the Michigan State weekend Sept. 18-20, he appeared to be on the verge of giving his pledge to North Carolina State.

According to the positive reports coming out of the weekend, the Wolfpack has a strong competitor on its hands in the Irish.

“I enjoyed it a lot,” the 6-1, 177-pound recruit said of his visit. “I liked a lot about their coaches as people and the atmosphere as a whole. It’s very close right now. It’s between NC State and Notre Dame.”

The other programs that complete Amerson’s top list of schools are Clemson and Virginia Tech. In an effort to make an accurate comparison, he’s likely take official visits to the remaining programs as well.

“I probably will take one to Clemson, Virginia Tech and probably one to NC State,” he said. “I’m not sure about the last one.”

He was scheduled to visit North Carolina for its matchup against Miami Nov. 14, but it’s unclear whether that trip will occur since UNC is outside of his top four.

As a junior, the Rivals.com four-star prospect and No. 21 safety nationally recorded 60 tackles and nine interceptions. He carries a 3.5 core GPA.

Amerson was hosted by fellow North Carolina native and Irish sophomore cornerback Robert Blanton, who is known for his infectious personality.

In addition to his host, he also started to build a relationship with Hazlet, N.J., wide receiver commitment Bennett Jackson. Notre Dame’s fifth verbal trekked back to South Bend to take in the game and the full weekend experience, and he also served as a recruiter.

“I think it went really well,” Jackson told BlueandGold.com of the impression he got from Amerson during the official visit. “I feel like he liked it a lot, and Notre Dame could be up there. I could see him coming here.”

When factoring in his comfort level on campus, his impression of the coaches and his fit with the defensive scheme, Amerson could also envision himself at Notre Dame. But the Irish will have to wait to see whether or not he decides to pull the trigger in their favor.

“Probably after I’ll take all my officials,” he said of his timeline. “I’ll definitely know by then.”"

no clear cut leader for Amerson yet...but its close. I feel that once he comes here for a visit things will be great for us once again. this is his FIRST OV so you know how kids are starstruck....if his visit to South Bend could have only been in Nov.
