Some might even be candid enough to reveal that they are supporting him because their skin color matches.
"

You're probably right with (1) but I could do the same thing for McCain supporters too.

And anyone would be able to do (2) it just may not really make any sense to you.

And there's plenty of McCain supporters that like his skin color out there, as i'm sure you're well aware of.

And in any case, there IS a difference between voting for someone (or against someone...) because of their skin color, and voting for someone because they're black.

Do you really know what handing the democrats a supermajority would mean for the country?

Some scary stuff here...

good gravy wsj, why are things in the opinion section labeled "articles"

those things are "columns"

i suspect your cms programmer is to blame

^ I thought one had to be a serial contributor for it to be considered a "column"? For example, Greg Mankiw submits occasional op-eds to WSJ (i have no clue who wrote the piece linked above, so i'm using an example I'm familiar with), but not a regular basis. Therefore, wouldn't his piece be called an "article" and not a "column"?

I could be very wrong on that, though.

oh knowz! you might have to cancel your yacht club membership!

the way i see it if it is as bad as some make it out to be; i'd rather us get our socialist experiment done with now. Seeing its failure the GOP will make economic issues their top priority to enact policies that will benefit me the most when i start making those 6-figure dollars

That WSJ article was ridiculous.

Not to mention-- anyone who would characterize net neutrality laws as "regulation" needs a reality check.

Good to insert a bit of humor into the campaign on both sides, but it does make it even harder to take all the ridiculous attacks and soundbites they will continue throwing at each other within minutes of the dinner being over.

McCains - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRSmQqw65Pg
Obama's - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5SWQJWm6Tg

Both were very good. Very funny, and well delivered.
If you want to talk about "partisan hackery", it would be in claiming that one was "much better" than the other. Can't we at least agree one one, simple point that both of them were good at something, instead of turning everything into a pissing contest?

So what are teh goals of the liberal anti-american political leaders?

They want to bend over and take it in the butt by Putin. Give Osama Bin Laden a pardon. I just don't get it....

I am not big fan of liberal policies but I think people in the country are finally starting to wake up from their 9/11 fright that politicians need more to their campaigns than fear-mongering reminiscent of the 1950's red scare campaigns.

This is what I don't understand. Everyone's like "OH NO, THE DEMOCRATS WILL CONTROL EVERYTHING! END OF THE WORLD!" Look, the last time it happened was 93-95 and I don't remember everything going to hell.

And, on top of that, it's their own damn fault that they've lost the majority anyway.

Quote :
"On his talk show on WPHT today, conservative Philadelphian Michael Smerconish endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
...
"I’ve decided," he said. "My conclusion comes after reading the candidates’ memoirs and campaign platforms, attending both party conventions, interviewing both men multiple times, and watching all primary and general election debates.

"John McCain is an honorable man who has served his country well. But he will not get my vote. For the first time since registering as a Republican 28 years ago, I’m voting for a Democrat for president.

"I may have been an appointee in the George H.W. Bush administration, and master of ceremonies for George W. Bush in 2004, but last Saturday I stood amidst the crowd at an Obama event in North Philadelphia," says the Republican.

Smerconish has given us some more from his op-ed:

"Terrorism. The candidates disagree as to where to prosecute the war against Islamic fundamentalists. Barack Obama is correct in saying the front line in that battle is not Iraq, it’s the Afghan-Pakistan border. Osama bin Laden crossed that border from Tora Bora in December 2001, and we stopped pursuit. The Bush administration outsourced the hunt for bin Laden and, instead, invaded Iraq.

"No one in Iraq caused the death of 3,000 Americans on 9/11. Our invasion was based on a false predicate, so we have no business being there, regardless of whether the surge is working. Our focus must be the tribal-ruled FATA region in Pakistan. Only recently has our military engaged al-Qaeda there in operations that mirror those Obama was ridiculed for recommending in August 2007.

"Last spring, Obama told me, 'It’s not that I was opposed to war [in Iraq]. It’s that I felt we had a war that we had not finished.' Even Sen. Joe Lieberman conceded to me just last Friday that 'the headquarters of our opposition, our enemies today,' is the FATA."

They want to get as many people as possible dependent on the gov't. Power is their goal.

It's despicable what the dems are doing to this guy. He asks a question, Obama's true socialist goal slips out...one which offers nothing but embarassment for liberals. Unable to answer the comment, they do what they do so well...personal destruction.

it's one thing to confuse people who don't pay attention to politics with the issues, but they haven't seen a newspaper or turned on a television to see Sarah Palin was with McCain? LOL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCipmnYCKB0

here's the clip with the rest of it... somebody said they were voting McCain so he asked him what he thought of Biden as his VP and the guy said it was a good choice, pathetic

this is why things like race, age, speaking ability, etc are pretty much the only thing that matters in elections

It backfired on him, though. A lot of the guys who called had to be cut off because they were making too much sense

I'll take plain old ingorant voters over ignorant voters who are full of hate. The ones who don't follow anything are probably less likely to vote, too.

"Hawaii ending universal child health care

MARK NIESSE, Associated Press Writer Mark Niesse, Associated Press Writer – Fri Oct 17, 7:37 pm HONOLULU – Hawaii is dropping the only state universal child health care program in the country just seven months after it launched.

Gov. Linda Lingle's administration cited budget shortfalls and other available health care options for eliminating funding for the program. A state official said families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.

"People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it so they could get it for free," said Dr. Kenny Fink, the administrator for Med-QUEST at the Department of Human Services. "I don't believe that was the intent of the program.""

Don't worry about Hawaii's failed program...even though it's pretty much Obama's plan. He's the messiah...the plan will work under his divine guidance.

It seems that it was a victim of its own success.

It was "universal" only in that is covered the poor. Doesn't the fact that it failed because even the well-off tried to get into it undermine your argument that universal health care systems are slow and inefficient? It seems people preferred it over their private insurance programs.

I guess you guys will take any pyrrhic victory you can get nowadays, though.

I urge you to reconsider. I know you want Obama elected.
But you shouldn't merely ignore the results of a health-care plan that mimics his plan fairly closely..a plan that got swamped out in only 7 months!

Obama's goal in his health-care program is to get as many people as possible on it...so that everyone is dependent on gov't for their health-care. He will create incentives and punishments in order to cajole everyone into his universal plan.

But just like Hawaii, we won't be able to afford it without either massive increased taxation on everyone or massive fiat money creation.

I think you exaggerate, but regardless; whatever increase in taxes it necessitates, our savings will be greater. Net gain for the American people.

The only cause for hesitation I had about his system was the efficiency of a gov't system. It looks like your Hawaii case just removed any doubt I had. Thanks!
