i was unlocking my phone again since i had restored it to get that maps app to install and now the fucking thing is stuck just restarting constantly. it shows up in quickpwn still and i can repeat the process but get the same results..wont come up in itunes so i can't do a restore

update: crisis adverted. i actually had to run it through another cycle on quickpwn before i could get it to even go into recovery mode. restoring now though so it should be fine.

Kindle for iPhone is out now.

Interesting choice for those of us who use the iPhone for e-books...Amazon's are a bit cheaper. I was looking at some new releases last week on Stanza's options and they were the same price as buying an actual hardcover book, while Amazon's only charging <$10 for the same e-book.

the whole point of owning a kindle is that it's much more like reading an actual book, your eyes don't start to hurt from the glare or the super bright screen.

Is it the same as a Kindle? No, but it's not an extra $400 either. I've been transferring e-books into Stanza on the iPhone since I first installed it, and I'm fine with reading them that way.

The major benefit to the "Kindle" app is that you get Amazon's catalogue (only books, though, not newspapers/magazines/blogs) at better prices than the other e-book apps.

Is 'push' email what could be dragging my battery life down? I have my work email set up as push and I had a full battery when I went to bed last night and woke up with it already at 75%.

I searched but didn't see it mentioned anywhere yet. Has anyone heard of the Loo.app, its a knockoff of the game bloxorz. I found a download for it and added the folder to through WinSCP to my Applications folder and I believe I set the appropriate permissions(0755). At first it wouldn't even show up as an app, but then today I had to update Cydia and it finally showed up, and it will pop up like it's going to start and show its start screen and then go straight back to springboard. I've googled it but haven't been able to find anything helpful.

i really think you're just not understanding how bad the battery sucks.

i got up at 6am yesterday..had the phone on flight mode from 9-11am and it was giving me the 20% battery remaining message before 3pm.

How do you guys have your iPhone hooked up to your car? We just bought a new (to us) car and I'm looking at my options. I used to have an aftermarket stereo with an Aux input, but now I have a factory stereo. I'm debating upgrading to a better system or just getting an FM transmitter or hookup through the CD changer port.

What is your method? Is there a way to hook it up and take calls through the stereo (aftermarket likely)? Whatever info you got would be helpful as I do my research.

Mine connects and plays just fine to a 3 year old Pioneer head unit with an IPOD interface. Problem with the interface is that it does not charge the unit. I dont know if they make the interfaces that will charge the phone, but thats one thing I would ask before I buy.

I would suspect you can simply get a bluetooth capable head unit, and it would connect to the phone in that manner to take calls.

If you guys listen to podcasts and don't have rssplayer (previously podcaster) yet, you're missing out. oh, and you can ssh and copy music over wirelessly now even on the new firmware, at least from linux on a jailbroken device.

AH I figured it out! Supposedly the USB ports with the new unibody macbook's won't detect your phone in DFU mode so I hooked it up via a usb hub and it worked right away!

apple took away firewire charging a lot of accessories used the 12v pins on the dock connector (firewire provides 12v power) to charge the device as it's easier to put out 12v in most cases. if your accessory is putting out 12v on those pins, the iphone/ipod touch will spit that "This accessory cannot charge iPhone" message out at you.

it's been that way for a while now, unfortunately
apple killed DFU mode with a security update a few months back.

^I wonder if that charge converter will work for my iPod dock in the car. I get that message when I connect the iPhone to my indash nav, it will play music just fine but it won't charge the phone. It used to charge the 1G iPhone (sometimes) though.

^yes, it will. the first gen iphone wouldn't sync over a firewire cable, but apple left the 12v charging circuit in - that's why yours would charge.

it depends on the dock you get.

the universal dock (aka the most expensive one) has video/audio out as well as USB
the straight 3g dock just has usb, iirc... but it's nice to sit on your desk so you can see who is calling/look at texts/etc. without taking your phone out of your pocket
