The ONLY people I definitively hear say this are NC State fans.

Frankly, I expect him to be at Baylor or Memphis... with us a distant third.

^^there's a much better chance he ends up at memphis than baylor. memphis at least makes some sense, and if he ends up at baylor, expect the NCAA to look into closing their program down.

no, they wouldn't. baylor did nothing illegal by hiring wall's former aau coach. if wall goes to baylor because he would like to play for his aau coach again, it'll be a good hire by baylor. slightly underhanded and morally questionable, but not against any rules.

^word is that the NCAA didn't like it though and they're looking into the wall/baylor recruitment already. with some sketchy history in Baylor's past, I wouldn't be surprised if they drop some sanctions on them to make an example.

did you watch the outside the lines on this subject recently? they know how it works and it's been going on for years. billy packer (cough) even mentioned lsu hiring press maravich from state, pretty much assuming pete would play for his dad, where ever he coached. It does seem unfair but it's not illegal.

the bigger travesty is taking place at usc. they've hired the fathers of highly ranked recruits so that their sons will go there. that's not even the worst part. because they are children of university employees, they receive free tuition and don't take up a basketball scholarship. that's seems pretty sleazy to me. then again, tim floyd pretty much leaves a trail of slime where ever he walks.

the USC situation is shady too, and it's becoming a joke (Lil' Romeo is on roster...) but Baylor isn't one of the NCAA's big cash cows, so they're more likely to do something about it at Baylor.

i believe baylor coaches have a history of paying their players (which is interesting considering their shitty basketball history) so they do have that

they should make the coaches have to be there for at least 2 years or something before the kid steps on campus. players already have to sit out a year if they transfer

which would suck if a guy who really deserves a high profile coaching job happens to be interested in one that's at a school where a top recruit has been a long-time fan of.

John Wall's timing with 'I won't end up at Baylor' made me laugh.

What is a better situation for recruiting Wall?

A - We win a game in the ACCT. Go to the NIT. Win two games and then out. Then Lowe can begin the 'focused' recruiting of wall.

B- We exit the NIT early and Lowe has time to immediately focus his energy on Wall.

The longer we can continue to play the better with wall. if we could win the nit or make the tourney somehow it'd be best.

that and land cousins

Quote :
"RALEIGH -- This is a different kind of "Dear John" letter. It's not about leaving. It's about staying.

Dear John Wall,

The best of your basketball career is still in front of you, but as you finish up your final year at Word of God, you've got a big choice to make.

You've waited this long to pick a college, and you're as savvy as anyone about the nature of the recruiting process, so I have no doubt whatever decision you do make will be the product of plenty of thought and debate.

You have valid reasons for choosing whatever school you end up selecting. No one's going to hold it against you. But here's some unsolicited advice: Give a second thought to staying home and going to N.C. State.

You're going to be a top pick in the 2010 NBA Draft no matter where you go, perhaps even first overall. You have options, good ones.

Your former AAU coach is on Baylor's staff. That may seem a little hinky to outsiders, particularly with your best friend from here playing junior-college ball down there, but that makes it a legitimate destination for you -- especially with the job coach Scott Drew has done. If that's what's most important, then go there.

At Memphis, John Calipari has shown that he knows how to win with one-year players and get them to the NBA -- Derrick Rose in particular -- so the Tigers make all the sense in the world.

Kansas and Duke also have their obvious merits. The latter would keep you at home as well, but it's hard to see your personality and style of play being a fit with Mike Krzyzewski. Plus, you wouldn't get the true benefits of Krzyzewski's coaching in only one season.

It's not like you could go wrong at either of those schools, but at N.C. State, you have a chance to do so much more.

You have a chance to make an impact that will last far beyond the one year you play there. You will be giving something back to the community where you were raised. And you will have a chance to play in the best league in the country, in front of all your friends and family.

This is a pivotal moment in Sidney Lowe's tenure with the Wolfpack. He has a top-25 recruiting class coming in, and some of his younger players are showing improvement this season, but he's still losing his two, possibly three, best players next fall.

If you came, Brandon Costner might be more likely to stick around for his senior year. If you came, you would make everyone who is there a better player. If you came, you would have the freedom you want in Lowe's offense to show off your talents to pro scouts. If you came, State would have a chance to win every night, just because you're on the floor.

And Lowe has more to offer than that. While he may be learning the college game on the job, there's no question he knows his way around the NBA. You could do worse than spend a year listening to him talk about his time as a point guard and coach in the pros.

Perhaps more important, you're only going to spend one year in college. At Memphis or Baylor, you will come and go like the wind. One plays in a mediocre conference, the other has a mediocre basketball history. N.C. State blows both away in both categories.

There's a rich basketball tradition at N.C. State, but it needs a modern-day booster shot. Herb Sendek couldn't do it, no matter how many times he went to the NCAA Tournament. You could, even if you stay for only a year.

As much as it helps N.C. State to have players like you (and Derrick Favors, who chose Georgia Tech) considering the Pack, if you actually played there you would raise the school's profile among potential recruits who weren't alive in 1983 and who don't know Reynolds Coliseum from Reynolds Wrap.

That generation, your successors, would be thinking of you when they added N.C. State to their lists, creating a legacy that will last long after your first shoe deal expires.

Whatever you choose, there are no wrong answers. A wonderful basketball career stretches out before you. But it's worth giving a second thought to staying home before you leave to head down that road.

yeah there were some unflattering comments about John posted by some known UNC fans.

I mean I've heard the rumors too...the fact is, John hasn't been in trouble with the law ever, he hasn't been in trouble at school since like 2005, his grades are in good shape, and he has matured beyond anything people could have imagined.

That said, there have been some articles written by these same hacks that perpetuate the "john wall is a headcase" rumors, that eventually make their way around the country. The only thing they have on him at this point is that he plays the game with a chip on his shoulder and has a bit of an attitude on the court. Other than that, what can you say? its necessary to have an attitide when you play to be the best.

simonn ^ (way up) yes that's what i meant, i thought it was obvious. But if a school hires a coach, (in one of those "sub-regional director of weight lifting" positions) then he should have some kind of probationary period at the school before he can bring in players he formerly coached. It wouldn't totally get rid of the problem, but alot can happen in 2 years, and it would at least force the university to have to bite the bullet on a salary. it was just a thought, ftw!

maybe he said the end of the semester, but that wouldnt make sense to my "april" reference since i'm assuming the school year ends near the end of may?
