how is this not common knowledge to any fan of the show, especially three seasons in?

this was the best episode in weeks. i'm glad they were able to keep Morgan's reappearance mostly a surprise. Lennie James is a hell of an actor and definitely pulled off what an emotional and psychological toll surviving in this type of world alone can have on a person.

Damn you Tree

I knew it was wrong, so I knew I'd be called out on it, but I didn't care. Y'all knew what I meant.

Did they ever elaborate on what "CLEAR" means? I didn't know if it was hidden on the wall scribbles or anything like that. I figured it was just chalked up to "Morgan is batshit crazy now," but I'm still curious as to if it has any specific meaning or reference.

Morgan was a huge surprise to me, but its a shame that he went to crazy and couldn't come along. He could've been the One to finally break the T-Dog curse.

I think 'Clear' meant to clean out zombies from his traps, or otherwise clear rooms of zombies cause that's how his son was killed.

Lennie James is too high profile to get T-Dogg treatment or become a series regular.

Off topic, but America seems like its losing any dominance it ever had in producing good actors. A lot of the heavy hitters these days are coming from across the pond or elsewhere - Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler (lol) and if I wasn't so lazy there would be more.

super good episode. i loved it. i REALLY enjoyed the break from the governor & really really liked seeing more of the post-apocalypse world since all we've looked at for weeks now is prison & woodberry.

yeah... i've decided I'm not a fan of this Governer plot as much as what they did this week and things like supply runs, encountering different survivors, etc.

I agree with what Sepinwall said in his latest review. The show that TWD could be based on this episode and the pilot episode would be a much better version of TWD. But unfortunately it would also be a lot lower ratings version of TWD.

I don't know if the comics did this or not, but I'd like to somehow hear from survivors of other large cities. Maybe they'll break out of GA in season 4. The prison is getting old. I enjoyed the farm more than the prison.

i don't mind seeing more of GA. i liked seeing how the small town handled the zombies, those stuck in the cafe, etc. seeing some of other cities/places would be neat too, but i'd still like to focus on our main characters. i'm just tired of the prison, hate the governor, & am not a big fan of his story line. i did like the farm, but got a little tired of it too. i think i still liked the farm more.

idk, i think i just like it when they're on the run so that the scenery/location is always changing lol

i'm assuming she worked there yeah.. either that or since Rick was Sheriff he might've been close friends with the owner.

what i'm trying to figure out is the overall progression of Rick and the group. Rick left his small town--> Rick and the group left ATL--> Rick and the group left the farm --> Rick and group are at the prison which happens to be "around the corner" from Rick's small town? they just going in circles? or are we to believe everything is within miles of each other?

This really was the best episode of the season. It's a shame how much potential they squander by trying to do the comic shit but fucking it up. For ex., The Governor and Michonne. Those I know who have read the comics were excited that they were coming. But hate the characters because they're not like the comics. I hate them because they suck. Well, they're FINALLY rounding out Michonne some so I'm starting to like her more. But my earlier comments make it pretty clear I loathed her presence on screen.

I'd like to see a version of the show where they didn't delve into much of the more out there stuff from the comics (the governor, who is much more crazy in the comics apparently) or samurai Michonne with her zombie repellent zombies. That, or just really do it up and make way more intense or more campy or something. There are probably 2-3 versions of this show that could work with slightly different audiences. But they are just striking out.

Agreed,

And I love it when Michonne is in the mix. I don't think they are striking out... I think they are doing a pretty good job of making the story very interesting and keeping us on edge as to what direction they may go.

I found the hitchhiker guy's presence strange. I understand what they're going for, showing how hard the group has become and how hard surviving is. But this guy has apparently survived for months through this whole ordeal, and then he gets taken out in the middle of the road in an open area? Seems like he would have been a little better suited to handle a few walkers than he was.

And wow, Morgan has a freaking arsenal of weapons. Pretty sure I'd have taken more than a few bags of weapons/ammo, esp. after what the Governor did to them. I'd have probably taken at least 50% of his guns/ammo and if they wouldn't fit in the car, I'd find a 2nd car, because those are going to be invaluable. Also glad they got Daryl a second/new crossbow, haha.

And Carl...I think I'm starting to like him, and then he goes and does really dumb things.

well he was chasing after them on foot and screaming at them to try to get their attention. he may have drawn a swarm of walkers to him and then not had the energy to escape.

Finally watched the episode. 2nd best of the season, only behind the episode when they finally killed off Lori.

I also like how they're starting to embrace everyone's craziness.

And the reaction to the backpacker really got under my skin. It makes perfect sense, but it still bothered me that they'd leave someone out to dry like that.

If anything, their departures from the comic are the worst features of the show--particularly when it comes to pacing. The farmhouse took what? 5-6 episodes (maybe more?) to resolve and in the comic it seemed like a blip on the radar. As someone already said, this last episode which was easily the best of the spring season, was ripped almost straight from the comic, but there have been some pretty sharp departures in the episodes prior that don't really have a way to come back. It will be interesting to see where they take it.

That's kind of my point though. They took the farm house thing from the comic, and then fucked it up. They could have just went a different route altogether. They could have done, but done it better.

That said, I was more referring to the more "comic booky"/outlandish/exaggerated stuff.

I haven't read the comics. But from what I've heard, it seems to me that they've taken some of the more outlandish characters and have tried to tone them down to fit the tone of the show a little more... and they suck. For ex., the Gov. and Michonne. They seem to be trying to present this show as sort of grounded in reality. It's very "if zombies actually happened", and really not all that outlandish once you're past that point. My understanding is that the gov. is REALLY out there and sadistic in the comics. This guy is out there, but not so far out there that I'm like "man he is fucking crazy, but he's an awesome character because of it." He's more of just a guy with an agenda who manipulates people to pursue his agenda. And there are little shades of crazy, but the character isn't really presented as being as out there as I hear he is in the comic.

So I'd rather them stay away from those type of things altogether of they're not going to do them right -- which they haven't proven to be able to it seems.

Michonne was supposedly an awesome comic book character. And she has sucked on the show. She's been on this entire season and she's pretty much said/done the same exact thing the entire time up until the last episode. I don't know what kind of character development there was for her in the comic, but it took them something like 8 episodes for them to even show a slightly different angle of her.

As for the last episode, if that is from the comic, then that is the kind of stuff they should pull from the comics. Or whoever wrote that episode needs to write more episodes. It was significantly better than all of the episodes focusing on the governor (the highly anticipated, supposedly awesome character that isn't).

^^The last episode was similar to the comics in style and character, but was not even close to anything that happened in the series.

Also:
Quote :
" I don't know what kind of character development there was for her in the comic"

There was a lot of character development for Michonne in the comic that would be impossible to run on a cable channel. A lot of who she is in the comics, is based on her relationship with the governor, which is a lot more sinister than the show.

You have to remember, the comic is great for what it is, a comic. It doesn't have to appeal to an audience of millions upon millions, but just the dedicated fan base. The show on the other hand can't exist within being able to appeal to a much larger audience, so they have to water down a lot of characters, change a lot of scenarios, and create a world in which crimes only occur that are either only spoken about, or tame enough to put on the air.

I was at first bummed out that several of the children from the comic series never made it to the show, just Carl and Sophia. But then I realized, the arc that those characters take is something I'd never want to see on television, and would avoid watching it if it was a movie.

This last episode was brilliant for a number of reasons and I really hope the decision makers for the show focus more effort on writing like that.

even though the previews at the end of last week's episode (or maybe the 'special sneak peak' preview from Talking Dead, can't remember) show Rick and The Governor basically face to face in the same room, I'll bet that doesn't happen until 9:59 pm and then the music cuts in and the credits roll
