i think the points about getting some answers are valid.

IMO, the first season was much more addictive because you were presented some questions, but then in later episodes you were given some answers while more questions were being presented.

now it seems like the questions are building up and instead of revealing some of the mystery of the island, everything is focused on the war that's about to start.

i mean, take a show like 24 --- its clear from the begining of each season that a bunch of really really smart people have thought out where everything is going, and where your drama and hi's/lo's are gonna be, 24 may be a tad predicatable, but at least its not fucking rediculous.

oh they knew

they hyped the show up for at least 6 months before it even aired with just a shot of Charlie sayin "Guys...where are we?"

And then as it closer to airing they showed pieces of the pilot

and then they showed the pilot and it was exactly the same as the pieces they showed in commercials and stuff...it was a big waste of time

and even though we knew there was a "monster" on the island before it aired, we were all amazed and intrigued by the mystery of the "monster" they weren't showing us

and that's why we watch, because we want answers

except they probably dont' have any that will satisfy the hype...so they create more mysteries and loose ends hoping we'll become interested in them


because lets face it...if this show was just about some people who were on a plane that crashed on a deserted island...it would be a scripted Survivor show...and who really wants to watch that?

^ thats not the whole story. the pilot was expensive as hell, but the critics gave LOST glowing reviews.

the first few episodes were better quality then many feature length movies, i maintain thats the reason for the cult following, which in turn resulted in publicicty and a bandwagon following.

i dont rememeber ANY hype, i saw the title 'LOST' on mininova, read the a synopsis, downloaded it, loved it, then found out every tv critic also loved the pilot.



also, the moster arc had promise. it was suppose to be revealed as a wooly mamoth that had survived exitinction or something like that....then they added mechanical sounds...then black smoke.....just fucking stupid.

the pilot was critically acclaimed because of the format of the show, like you said it was like a movie

but i was really disappointed in it, especially when they broke it up into two parts because i felt like i watched a movie that shows all its action scenes and funny jokes in the trailer

i just wanted them to get to the core of things rather than beating around the bush for the entire show

so, probably because i'm an impatient little bastard, i didn't like the content of the pilot





and there was hype, but it was like anti-hype

because for a long time they wouldn't divulge anything about the show...it was just:

"LOST" on a black background and the caption "coming in November"....
