great console, but I just don't play it and I don't need/want a blu-ray player. Would much rather get some cash from it and put it towards a macbook pro (which I do want). 6/6/2008 2:46:30 PM |

is that 60G backwards compatible? I wish you would have sold this a month ago. I would have probably dealt with you

you can probably get a bundle for it since it's limited edition.
Definitely one of those cases where it will pay to have it "featured" on eBay. I remember a custom red PS3 (someone just painted the case) selling for a couple grand right after it was launched.
how the hell did you get your hands on this gold one?

hmm, featured listing is a good idea.
Here is a pic I just took. I actually won this through VH1. Was supposed to just be a normal PS3, but the sony rep that called said she would "send me something cool". this is what I got.
I found a youtube video of one of them too, which I guess is neat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ksuz-8OpqY
It was painted with high gloss automotive paint and then laser etched. Apparently different celebs were allowed into the lounge to create their own custom PS3s at the event. the one I have was a demo of the process I think.

i'd bet you could get 2 grand for it, maybe even more - seriously...if it's that limited, there are people out there who pay tons for those things. you should call sony back and see if it's the one that's on display in the video or if they can give you any support documentation 6/6/2008 4:51:44 PM |
FanatiK All American 4248 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, i'd say make sure it's prominently featured (this is possibly even "main page" worthy, but i don't know how much that costs these days)
and maybe do a little stealth self-promotion on gaming sites + such. You'll probably make a killing.
I actually remember reading about this back when it was done. Some of the ballers' designs were pretty cool, I remember one that looked like it was hardwood.
Just out of curiosity, do the controller(s) match?

Just sent an email to the guy that has the videos up on YouTube. He has several different vids and in them there are about 5 or 6 different PS3s that were done for the 2007 NBA All-Star game. Hell for all I know, it could be a one of a kind box. I guess I will try to find out before I list it for sale.
Just found this link that shows the ones from the lounge.

I am really starting to think this might be one of a kind.

So i'll be moving to Australia in a few weeks and i'll likely take my PS3. Have some questions about compatibility though. from what i gather:
My US PS3 will only play US/1 region DVDs and Blurays It'll play any games (no regions for games) It can handle 240v power automatically.
I will be buying an Aussie HDTV, though. Will i have issues w/ PAL/NTSC stuff? Maybe w/ DVDs? HDformats don't use PAL/NTSC right? local PAL TV will of course work w/ the lcoal PAL TV. are HDTVs even PAL or NTSC? 6/13/2008 1:05:15 PM |
Shrike All American 9594 Posts user info edit post |
Pretty sure an HDTV is an HDTV regardless of where you get it, shouldn't have to worry about PAL/NTSC. The one concern is to make sure you get all your DLC off the US store. Games are region free but DLC is not. 6/13/2008 1:10:55 PM |

buy the Nyko blu-wave. Toss the remote, but keep the IR receiver. It's in Harmony's database of devices.6/16/2008 3:44:12 PM |

similar to achievements, except you have something pretty to look at.

maybe they should have followed Nintendo's lead and used 8 year old technology to make the system affordable.
Or maybe they're making a killing off of the blu-ray royalties. Lose a battle to win a war. 6/24/2008 12:39:07 PM |

Affordable, high selling, and likely not operating at a loss, you mean. It's kind of hard to be criticize Nintendo for something that has worked so well.

Yeahhhhhh, I don't think so. Not nearly on the scale with their losses, at the very least.

^^are you really that stupid? blu-ray drives are already becoming mainstream in computers. With royalties pushing $30 a drive and with approximately a quarter billion computers being purchased annually, that's going to recoup their losses in the first quarter of next year alone. That doesn't even factor in the sale of home entertainment equipment and movie sales.

So this is what we're supposedly getting with the next update, in about 3 weeks coinciding with E3.
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=191641
Quote : | " We've also scooped the following list of XMB features that you'll be able to access in-game. Here goes:
* Friend category * View, send, receive messages * Manage downloads * Set the vibration feature of the controller * Sign in to PlayStation Network * Register friends * Manage Bluetooth devices * Terminate the game * Music category * Use the system BGM * Work the system BGM operation panel * Settings category * Assign controllers * View profiles * Game category * Set audio devices * Use the voice changer
As previously reported the update will also allow you to play back your own tunes in-game from the XMB Music column. It's unclear whether this feature will be compatible with all games or just new titles created with more recent development tools." |
It's also going to include trophy support with something that looks like this,
although that might just be a photoshop, and really none of this is confirmed by Sony.
