Amerson sounds like a very solid player and a good kid in addition to that. i know he's going to enjoy his time at State! Keep it up O'brien!!!

I know everyone has been down on TOB but if you look at the people they've recruited over their years its hard to argue.

And its not only the players he got but the ones that got away too who were considered sleepers. Examples: The TE and LB at Boston College this year. It came down to us and BC pretty much. They are either both true-frosh or the TE is a RS-Fr. The LB (forgot his name, its still early) was leading the ACC as of last week in Tackles and the TE was one of the league leaders as well.

Amerson probably committed because when our D is on the field it looks 11 against 9, he probably thought we were missing secondary people.

This is what I like to see. From ESPN

Quote :
"Amerson is a tall and lean safety that has all the tools to be a special player at the next level. He is instinctive and rangy as a true free safety. He breaks quickly on the pass and displays excellent ball skills when going up to make a play on the pass. Amerson is also a very sound openfield tackler that closes quickly on the ball carrier." "

^thats good to hear if true.

also, Amerson has a very impressive offer sheet. Very good pick-up for TOB and the secondary. If he can add some weight to his frame without losing speed (listed as a 4.5 forty guy) then he could be a great player. I will take anyone that had offers from Clemson, UNC, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.

Mainly, if Bud Foster wanted him and we got him I am happy.

^ solid point. VT always has a strong secondary unit. Now if only we could run the same defensive schemes the bud fosters uses at tech. IE man converge every once in a while.

That is really good to hear about Fre'Shad. We're losing a lot of talent on the defensive line.

You never want to lose a 4 star recruit, but I've heard that he lacks the mental toughness and competitive nature to be successful in FBS football...I've also heard that he is significantly overrated because of his size. Who knows though, maybe TOB will get his mind right.

^&^^ You can believe whatever you want but the area high school football coaches I know say he has a serious attitude problem (part of the reason he was kicked off his HS football team) and that he is significantly overrated. Not to mention his academic problems which make it doubtful that he will qualify. I hope he is as good as advertised and qualifies without a hiccup but that just doesn't seem to be the reality of the situation.

^^Yeah, I've heard about the attitude problems, and it is concerning. But I'm hoping our coaches can get him focused. When you're the king at your high school, and can slackoff and still dominate, it's easy to lose focus and not try hard.

We had a dude on my high school team who was labeled as having an attitude problem/grade issues. He commited to UNC, but they backed off when they heard about this. He wound up at a smaller school, got focused, and played to his potential. Four years after being labeled a headcase in high school, he was starting for the New York Giants.

If we dont land White, do we have a backup RB whom we are looking at??

I'm curious to see what Barnes does. A lot of analyst felt he was a better S, some thought he would be a great RB, but he's buried on the depth chart. Presuming that Baker returns next year with Washington right behind him on the depth chart, I wonder if he'll look to move to S or assume one of our RBs will get hurt and we'll have to put him in, haha.

maybe we can get him on the field in the slot or out of the backfield receiving. get him out in space.

but i truly am too disappointed to even care about next season's prospects yet.

James white update 11/25

Quote :
"Next up for White is the fourth official visit of the recruiting process, which will be to NC State (11/27). And as it stands now, the Spartans, Wolfpack, Badgers and Tigers are the programs he's considering.

"I'm still in the decision-making process," he said. "I really don't have any leaders right now. Everybody is just about even."

White plans to make his college decision after the season. Rivals.com ranks him the No. 42 running backs - No. 65 prospect in the state of Florida - in the Class of 2010."

“Right before that game, that’s when I really started second guessing myself on the commitment,” Wilkins said. “I just figured I’d go see what N.C. State was talking about and how they were still interested in me. I just went to see how things were.”

Wilkins confesses that he attended the game sporting a red Adidas N.C. State shirt.

“I didn’t want to go over there in Carolina Blue as a recruit,” Wilkins said with a laugh.

On a different note, Pete Singer named to an all-conference team:

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/swakesports/tri-nine-all-conference-football-team-defense#new

Kind of surprising, but then again I hadn't really been following his season.

nice about wilkins. congrats to singer

i just remember those back-to-back 1-10 seasons for the 'Holes and how they recruited some of the best teams that ever played there. I think within our program you see alot of loyalty to the coaches from the players and each other. Did you guys hear Holes players throwing each other under the bus after the game; sad. We might not compete against the SEC etc. but i think as long as TOB keeps program-building and recruiting his kind of players we're gonna win most of the recruiting battles.

^ He was going to be a slot receiver at UNC but was concerned about playing time with our young WR depth chart. If he's looking to play early then State is a better option.

Oh well he still is in my mind one of the best players in the state, and comes from Crest HS which is always a football powerhouse. We got Dwayne Maddox from Crest. Besides just looking at his offer list you can tell that he is talented and can play at the BCS level.

Offers
North Carolina State
Clemson
Colorado
East Carolina
Louisville
Marshall
North Carolina

Seriously? Maybe you mean in 2011, but I don't see how you could possibly think he would get on the field quicker at State with Jarvis Williams, Owen Spencer, T.J. Graham, etc. all coming back. Not to mention with Tony Creecy coming in. Jherranie Boyd is good and everything, but you must be retarded to think he has a better chance to play at State next season with our WR corp coming back.

^ that's what i thought

Returning Players
Owen Spencer (led the nation in ypc)
Jarvis Williams (led the conference in TD catches and almost set a single season record for NCSU)
Darrell Davis (looked great this year and was $$$ when other receivers hands got buttery)
Stephen Howard (just needs more PT)
Jay Smith (just needs more PT)
TJ Graham (he's known commodity)
Donald Bowens (someone else who'll be hard to keep off the field)

What's weird is that all these guys actually played a decent amount of snaps per game.

Guys who redshirted
I only know of the kid from South Carolina but he's 6-4 (too lazy to look up name)
can't remember if there's anymore

Incoming Recruits So Far
Tony Creecy
Tobais Palmer (exact build of Wilkins and had a great year at JC)

UNC-CH Returning Players
Little (wouldn't take him over any of our starters)
Highsmith (legit dude)
Kid from Connecticut
Dwight Jones

yea, Wilkins came to State because of our dirth of WR Talent.

He'll play where coach tells him to play
