Good experience being at the game today. It wasn't as loud as hyped to be. There were explosions of loud noise after the goals but other than htat it was pretty quiet. American sports have louder crouds. Much louder. Especially for 75k. The fans were very polite gentlemen. 5/8/2011 11:38:20 PM |

Read up on English stadium reviews from the fans, it's pretty well known that a lot of top club grounds aren't so great with atmosphere due to the common fans being priced out of seats. Old Trafford's been that way for a while. It's the same thing that's happening in the US with most of our sports, especially NFL.
When I finally get money to go to England for a week or two, I might just try to go to a bunch of Championship/League 1 games for a better value/experience and maybe just try to tour places like OT and Anfield. Here's a website I've wasted hours on...

from what I've been told it's all about where you sit at OT
if you're in the Stretford end, the noise never stops
elsewhere, it's all prawn sandwiches and goal noise 5/9/2011 9:13:20 AM |

^^^ Thanks for sharing that site, very interesting.
A former coworker and friend is from south London and recommended going to see clubs with smaller stadiums, like Stoke or Blackpool. He said the experience is much better. I agree though that a League 1 game would be the way to go, it's going to be much cheaper and probably a bit rowdier. 5/9/2011 9:47:14 AM |

just read a few of the earlier pages in this thread
Quote : | "so i think im gonna be supporting Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, and Tottenham this season. Wenger and Fabregas could be my roommates, i love those 2 guys. Stevie G, you cant beat his tenacity, so just cause i like this guy means I FREAKIN LOVE THE ENTIRE LIVERPOOL TEAM. Tottenham, i mean come on, i support any team crouch plays on...The entire african contintent of Chelsea, i am 1/4 south american so thats why i love chelsea. Tevez kinda sucks, but i love it when teams spend over 300 million pounds in 2 seasons to buy all my favorite players...even the ones ive never heard of...i really didnt start liking manchester united til a few days when they drew to fulham. but that berbatov guy, ive never seen someone hustle as much as he does. i love that in a player. man i sure hope one of my teams can win the epl this season. ill be pulling for all my teams unless they play each other. then im a man united, arsenal and tottenham fan all the way. but if those 3 are playing each other then im just gonna pull a team name out of a hat and pull for that team.
my motto is: MULACMCTTID....Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham til I Die
you guys are just jealous my teams win the epl every single season" |

'arry obviously put out a team today that indicated he wasn't really going for a win. He's also said that he doesn't really care if they make Europa League because it's more of a distraction than anything else. I stopped caring like 2-3 games ago after they got boned at Chelsea about making the CL. It obviously wasn't going to happen at that point. As long as Modric, Bale, and VDV don't leave over the summer because of no CL it's a win. Sandro is going to be a beast next season. 5/10/2011 11:45:36 PM |

Maxi has a pair of hat tricks but I'm not fooled into thinking he's anything more than a decent squad player. I do agree though, I don't know where Adam really fits in especially with Gerrard coming back (and not really having a good idea where he'll play either)
I'm mostly interested in getting Young and Cahill at this point but I'm not going to say no to having somebody like Adam fight for minutes. Don't know if it's in his best interests though 5/11/2011 3:07:12 PM |
kiljadn All American 44690 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, especially if Young comes in
that's 3 players that sit behind the strikers - Gerrard, Young, or Adam
or 3 players that play out left - Young, Maxi, Adam
In every combination he's the odd man out. i just don't see it being a smart decision for him. 5/11/2011 3:13:38 PM |

I'm meh on Adam. The last thing we need is another central midfielder. I'd be really happy with Young. Another top class winger and a top class CB and LB would be a good summer to me.

He's definitely fallen off a bit in the last few months. Probably has something to do with a move to a bigger club falling through in January. I wouldn't be disappointed at all if they got him, but I think only after they've nailed down the few spots they really need.
also lol at the talk of midfielders and no mention of Joe Cole. What the fuck happened to him? He has to be the biggest disappointment of the season by far 5/11/2011 4:12:08 PM |

Everyone figured out how to play Adam. Blackpool scores when he's on the ball. He knows how to find the great pass but he's not too fast and needs time to find it. Everyone has learned to pressure him the moment he gets the ball, so he's lost a bit of effectiveness.
I think at a stronger club where he had other great passers in the midfield he would thrive. It would take the pressure off of him from the defense and allow him to move off the ball a little more to find the right pass or take a shot. Like you guys though, just not sure if Liverpool is that club.
I wouldn't be surprised if Man City puts in an over-the-top bid for him. It's already rumored they are ready to blow even more money over the summer (with good reason as it looks like they will be in the CL next year), so I wouldn't be surprised if they just tried to scoop up as many "hot" players from this season as possible and then try to fit it together after the fact.
I'm hoping Arsenal sell Cesc to Barca for a ridiculous sum and pick up Scott Parker who will probably be itching to bail on WHU (who will also be looking for all the money they can get)... 5/11/2011 8:19:05 PM |
