What's this about Leslie? Why would he reopen his recruitment?

He had some quote that got people worried... Personally, I don't think we'll have a problem.

** I never felt comfortable with Cousins anyway, just like I don't with Wall.

Year 5 for Sid is make or break anyway... he better hope Harrow and Leslie can contribute and right away...

It's bad enough that we have to compete with Duke and UNC for recruits, Memphis needs to piss off!

^ you forgot to add 'http://www.wolfpackhoops.com'

^^ we really don't compete w/ unc or duke for recruits that often these days. memphis is in it w/ everyone we're after, however.

"To our knowledge Cousins has actually yet to even take the SAT or ACT which he was rumored to just be waiting on the scores for. State was waiting for him to take care of this, then would pursue an official visit. That won't happen now since Cousins has committed to the Tigers. He committed to them while on an "unofficial" visit. GoogleMaps has Mobile at about 6 hours and 50 minutes from Memphis. It's hard for us to believe that Cousins just up and drove to visit Memphis, or that he paid for his own flight when he could have just as easily waited a little while longer and had the whole trip payed for by the University. Something is just not right there. When we find out more, we will pass it on.

***UPDATE***
Apparently this commitment to Memphis, by Cousins, was a surprise to even his high school coach. What we're hearing is that as of last week, Cousins was trying to decide between NC State and Washington. So, from then until this afternoon something must have changed. Remember, DeMarcus has already changed his commitment once and can not sign an LOI (letter of intent) until he takes his SAT or ACT. So expect the Wolfpack staff to continue going at Cousins very hard and even trying to get him here on a visit before he signs anything. This is not a closed book just yet folks...stay tuned."

What are our backup plans for Cousins/Wall? We have 2 scholly's at the very least and possibly 3. We have to fill at least 1 or 2 of them with bodies. I'm fine with saving 1 but we can't go to through an ACC season with 3 open scholly's...

i just got done with a facebook chat with J-Dub

he said the Baylor visit was ok, but i got the feeling he isn't going there. he also said Duke was talking to him a lot more over the past few weeks.

he did say that he really wanted to stay close to home. i have a really good feeling

Of course we compete with Duke and UNC for recruits, just like we compete with pretty much all ACC schools. They just get almost anyone they want.

Players that we have recruited that have also been recruited by Duke and UNC.

2011
Deuce Bello (uncommitted but has been contacted by both State and Duke)

2010
Reggie Bullock (UNC) - We never got the chance to offer him
Tyler Thornton (Duke) - We never got the chance to offer him

2009
John Wall (uncommitted, but Memphis is what it's looking like ) - Duke tried to recruit him
Ryan Kelly (Duke)

2008
Miles Plumlee (Duke) - we never offered though

2006
Wayne Ellington (UNC)
Tywon Lawson (UNC)
William Graves (UNC) - we never offered though
Gerald Henderson (Duke) - we never offered though

2005
Danny Green (UNC)
Bobby Frasor (UNC)

2004
J.R. Smith (signed LOI with UNC but entered NBA draft instead of going to college)
Marvin Williams (UNC)
David McClure (Duke)

2003
Reyshawn Terry (UNC)

2002
Shavlik Randolph (Duke) - I'm still disappointed in him choosing Duke over the school that his grandfather played at and has his jersey hanging in the rafters.

According to some on PP, that isn't looking good, either.

The wheels appear to be coming off recruiting-wise.

We need a winning season bad

^that was old... back in the summer/fall last year they were saying that ... all signs point to him being solid now

however, yes... we def need a ncaa season next year to help with leslie as well as recruiting in general

James posted yesterday that CJ wants some more recruiting attention. Didn't know if CJ would open things back up but said we're still in for a fight in his opinion.

we got Stackhoused

the rumor was that cousins told harris he was coming to state ... so either that was just a rumor all along which i find hard to believe or cousins did indeed tell harris that and committed on whim to Memphis on his unofficial visit. this whole unofficial visit seems really sketchy.

this commitment decision surprised his HS coach and his mother. he hasnt signed an LOI yet so he can still come on a visit here once he receives his ACT/SAT scores.

Gravis never said we were getting Cousins. He said he felt like we were in good shape, but he was the one telling everyone to calm down nothing is set in stone after the wolfpackhoops article.

Has he not taken them yet? Or has he tried and not gotten a qualifying score? Just wondering if there are any eligibility issues.

one rumor says that he hasnt taken either test and that is the reason we were waiting for him to come on his OV to state. another rumor has it he was waiting for them to come in but that really doesnt make sense

at this point in time...who knows

I thought that you can take an official visit even if your SAT/ACT score isn't a qualifying score?

What about schools that have done away with the SAT like Wake?

In order to be cleared by the NCAA you have to take the SAT or ACT. They could attend school, but would not be eligible to compete in NCAA sanctioned contests.

A school can't unilaterally opt out of NCAA admissions standards. Some schools have requirements above and beyond NCAA minimums, some don't require everything required by the NCAA. The NCAA could potentially face litigation at some point, hence why they got rid of the minimum SAT score (now they have a sliding scale with corresponding GPAs).

I just want to say that I'm over listening to anyone on the Internet who claims to know anything about recruits from "friends of the program" or "an insider." I mean how many times the past month have we heard we're solid with Cousins and Wall for example? A ton. Personally, I still believe Wall is Waco or Memphis bound and no amount of random internet people telling me Baylor isn't really a factor will make me change my mind...

I don't blame the guy with his blog site -- I appreciate his work... but I'll continue to take anything posted there with a grain of salt.

Why is Ryan Harrow only rated *** on both sites? I know we had this conversation in the past about his size, but is this really what is keeping his stock lower than one would think it should be?

Also, can someone go over our top prospects (interest wise) who would compliment Leslie/Harrow potentially in 2010?
