"Seriously? Maybe you mean in 2011, but I don't see how you could possibly think he would get on the field quicker at State with Jarvis Williams, Owen Spencer, T.J. Graham, etc. all coming back. Not to mention with Tony Creecy coming in. Jherranie Boyd is good and everything, but you must be retarded to think he has a better chance to play at State next season with our WR corp coming back."

Yes, I do mean in 2011. He was likely to redshirt next year at either school since he'll be making the transition from QB. State's top 3 WRs (Williams, Spencer, Davis) all graduate after next season and playing time will be available. On the other hand, UNC's top receivers are freshmen this year with the exception of Little. Not to mention, Wilkins is on the record saying "It just seems like it’s going to be hard for me to get on the field and get touches" in regard to his decommitment from UNC.

What do you guy's think of our class so far? What positions should we try to fill our last spots with and who would you like to fill them with. It seems like we'd like to get a RB, either James White or Mustafa Greene. I'd be happy with either one.

Honestly - I'm excited about every player we have in the class except maybe Rich. Rich seems like a project, especially based off of film I saw on Pack Pride yesterday.

If we could get another CB like AJ Marshall, I'd be pumped.

oops i meant to put this from rivals

Quote :
"In November, Northeastern announced that the football program there was being discontinued. That meant all players at Northeastern were free to transfer to other schools without having to sit out another year.

David Akinniyi will transfer to NC State.
One of the best defensive players at Northeastern was defensive end David Akinniyi The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder from Rocklin, Cal., had 11 career sacks in his first three years at Northeastern and 22 tackles for losses, including two against Boston College this year.

When the program dissolved, Northeastern coaches set about to find homes for their players, including Akinniyi.

"Our coaches have been trying to get us scholarships, and I thank for them that," Akinniyi noted. "I guess some coaches here had connections there and contacted NC State. They liked my film and they decided to give me an opportunity."

Akinniyi made his official visit to NC State this weekend, and he has decided that he will close out his collegiate career in Raleigh.

"I have decided to go to school there and come in January, and the visit was good," Akinniyi said. "The facilities were great, the food was great. I got a real good vibe from the place.

"There were some other schools. The University of Buffalo was trying to get me up there. Maryland was talking to me a little bit. University of Central Florida was talking to me a little bit as well. I had other options but I felt NC State was a great place for me and a great place to compete."

Akinniyi lined up at linebacker his first two years at Northeastern before moving to defensive end this season. He will likely line up at defensive end for NC State, too. He will enroll in January and participate in spring drills. He will have one season of eligibility for the Pack.

"They told me that there's a great chance to compete, that there was a great chance to come in and make an impact if I do everything right, so I'm just looking for a place to compete," Akinniyi said. "I'm going to go out there and give it everything I got."

For Akinniyi, this weekend made Northeastern's decision to dissolve the football program a bittersweet moment.

"Personally it gives me a better chance to my ultimate goal of making it to the NFL one day, but the families and the people that are affected I wish that would never happen," Akinniyi noted. "A lot of my teammates will not get an opportunity elsewhere that are hurt from this."

Wilkins mentions that he never totally took UNX out of the picture, just that he had to reschedule due to SAT/ACT stuff and he liked State on his unofficial so much he switched commitments (that's when we beat them).

He's also got an official scheduled for Louisville and said..

Quote :
"“As of now, it’s probably State,” Wilkins said of where he will sign. “If the official visits go different, then I’ll have my mind made up by February.”"

Hopefully he's just doing this to get some free visits to some other colleges and have the full experience. I doubt he goes back to UNC after quickly turning to State after decomitting from them, but I don't know. Also Louisville is in a coaching transition so I'm sure how much he'd really want to go to a team in major transition.

"Pack hosts Jomantas for official visit

Talk about it in The Wolves' Den
NC State is trying to move quickly on offensive tackle Andy Jomantas from Chaminade-Julienne High in Dayton, Ohio. A little over a week after offering Jomantas, they brought the 6-foot-8, 255-pounder in for an official visit.

"We saw all the facilities and stuff, the weight room and the locker room," Jomantas said. "We got to take a tour of the campus. I just liked everything. I liked the atmosphere. I could see myself playing there."

Jomantas admits the thought of committing did cross his mind.

"I thought about. I think I just want to take a couple of more days to think about it," Jomantas said.

He was hosted on his trip by rising sophomore center Camden Wentz. Jomantas said his favorite part of the trip was when he got a preview of a Saturday ritual.

"They led us into the locker room, and they had our jersey, or what would be our jersey, and I liked when we tried those on," Jomantas said.

Jomantas also got to spend some time with the coaches, especially offensive line coach Don Horton who is recruiting Jomantas to NC State.

"Actually me and Coach Horton sat for about an hour looking at game film and stuff, talking about what they are going to do there and what maybe I could do," Jomantas said. "Actually one of the things they were saying, I'm not sure completely about this, they were saying maybe when I'm younger because I am probably going to be redshirted, and I understand that, they were talking about maybe putting me in at tight end. Then develop me from that."

What's next for Jomantas is up in the air. Kansas, which has offered, and Maryland, who is showing serious interest, may get official visits.

"I might be visiting other visits, I'm not sure where right now" Jomantas said. "There's a couple of places I might go. I don't know. I just have to think about it.""

i'd bet he runs a good sub 5.0 40 and if he put 50 more lbs on over the course of 2-3 years, he'd be a nasty tackle too.

Rivals currently has us at #24 in their team rankings. With the Overgaard (what a fitting name for an o-lineman) commitment we have 18 commits and look to be adding more. It'd be great to add either James White or Mustafa Greene. Both are very good RBs.

Mikel Overgaard
Offensive tackle
Ephraim, Utah
Snow College
Ht:6'7"
Wt:270 lbs

Schools Interested
North Carolina State
Middle Tennessee State
New Mexico
Southern Illinois
Southern Utah

Overgaard was originally at Washington State as a preferred walk-on. He went to a small school in Idaho and was overlooked as a result. His town only had about 5,000 people in it. Coming out of HS he only had a few offers from smaller schools. He transferred down to Snow College a JuCo to gain experience and the coaches there switched him from a TE to OT due to his excellent footwork, frame, and blocking. Snow College finished the season 9-2 and ranked in the top 10 nationally among JUCO programs. It's the same JUCO that the staff got Paul Peterson when they were at BC. Overgaard has a 3.8 GPA so he'll be good to go and should enroll in January.

Stupid Overgaard hurting our ranking...

Or really, stupid Rivals for counting him as a zero-star (actually zero, not null or omitted, but 0*) recruit.
If he was a 2* we'd be bumped up to 22nd (1196 points). If he was a 3* we'd be bumped to 20th (1250 points). But as a 0* we are 24th (1152 points).

Does anybody know anything on the running backs James White and Mustafa Greene? I hope we land one of them. The Shrine Bowl will be broadcasted on ESPNU three times over the next month and Greene will be in it. He'll probably be second on the depth chart after Lattimore though, who's one of if not the top RBs in the nation.

Overgaard got evaluated on Rivals as a 3* prospect. That bumped us up to #21 on their team rankings. We're currently third in the ACC according to their rankings (FSU #12 and Miami #15) and just ahead of Clemson who is ranked #22. The Tigers have 20 commits to our 18, well 19 once they add in Jomantas who will probably be a 2* prospect.
