^ When did Ygritte die? We're talking about the red head wildling, rlght?

Edit: Nm, you mean the two women he's talking about are Ygritte and Rob's wife, who is dead now (was killed at the red wedding).

Based on the previews for the next episode, looks like we know who Cersei's side will use for their competitor in the Trial By Combat. Now to see who Tyrion selects, he has 2 obvious choices based on his past/allegiances but they've REALLY pushed a 3rd selection if Cersei does select who the previews allude to.

I hope he picks Jamie. He wanted to when he was in the Vale. And now if he did that would really get her panties in a bunch.

Can someone explain the rules of this trial by combat?

I assume Tyrion has to defend himself. Against who?

You and the accuser name champions. You'd have to be completely unobservant to not know who will be championing against Tyiron's choice.

my guess is that the lannisters will choose the mountain and oberyn will step up for tyrion since he wanted to fight him anyway. how else were they going to set up that fight?

I'm expecting Tyrion will name either Bron or Jamie. I don't think he would choose Oberyn to fight for him but stranger things have happened.

and wtf Shae, do you still not understand what Tyrion did was to save your life and protect you? how could you do that to "your lion"?

yeah i was thinking maybe mountain vs jaime fighting on tyrion's behalf, but i dunno. oberryn definitely wants to see the mountain dead, but yeah it'd be hard to see tyrion choosing him as his champion. i guess if there was no one else he'd go for it.

i don't really expect it to be bronn either, because that would just be retread.

^^^You must not have seen the previews for the next episode.

No reason to show him in the previews for the next episode if he ISN'T going to be their champion. And really Tyrion has 2 choices(Jamie or Bronn) to fight for him, but they have REALLY pushed Oberyn wanting revenge. So it seems fairly obvious that Oberyn is going to offer his services to fight for Tyrion in the Trial by Combat.

Show has been pretty heavy-handed in setting up Oberyn vs. The Mountain and I can't imagine Oberyn not begging Tyrion to let him fight on his behalf. Which is great because all season they've talked about how great of a fighter Oberyn is and I'm looking forward to seeing him actually fight someone.

^He might, and Jamie is a logical choice, but they've built up the Oberyn thing for the entire season so far, I'd be shocked if he doesn't at least offer up his services. Never read the books so not sure if the writing is as heavy-handed as the show is about certain plot points.

I mean why even introduce Oberyn this season, give us all of his history(esp. with The Mountain and the Lannisters), his history of being this great warrior, make him a judge, etc, if he isn't going to get to face The Mountain at some point? Maybe the trial will get The Mountain in the city and Oberyn will fight him after the Trial By Combat, but that would mean Jamie is dead(which would be a fun twist I didn't see coming). Either way, as long as I get to see Oberyn fight at some point this season I'll be content, haha.

I could also see Tywin forbidding Jamie to fight for him because of his membership in the King's Guard.

This is where disputed parties fight to the death to resolve the dispute. However, if one party is unable (woman, dwarf, child, etc.) then they may select a champion. This is the same situation we had in the Vale where Robin and Lysa were ineligible and put that knight forward. Also, Tyrion was unable due to being a dwarf, so he called Jamie (who Lysa wouldn't allow because he wasn't present) then offered gold to anyone in the room who would take up for him, which Bronn accepted.

I kind of see this going differently. I think selecting Jamie makes perfect sense, but because Tywin won't allow him to die. This whole trial is a roux to force Jamie back to rule Casterly Rock and continue the Lannister name, as well as the added bonus of sending Tyrion off to the Wall at the same time.

I see Jamie being selected and something happening to either not have to fight, or Tywin just putting in somebody weak for Jamie to slay and Tyrion gets off free. Neither Cercei nor Tywin want to see anything happen to Jamie. However, this is GRRM we're talking about and more fucked up shit has happened so, I'm looking forward to whatever result. They have been building up the "poor Jamie he's not so bad afterall" thing lately, and it would be a good time for him to die - it would really solidify Tywin as the cruelest asshole in the world.

However, I hadn't considered the Oberyn vs. the Mountain thing - which would be great, but he's a judge so can he be selected?

Yeah if I hadn't seen The Mountain in the previews for the next episode, I would have expected Tywin to pick Jamie to be his champion just so Tyrion wouldn't be able to use him and so Tyrion wouldn't want to pick Bronn because he wouldn't want his brother to die.

Really surprised they showed The Mountain in the previews for the next episode, can't imagine they'd show him/bring him back if he wasn't indeed going to be the champion for Tywin/Cersei. I just can't imagine a scenario where Tywin allows Jamie to fight The Mountain, and I can't imagine a scenario where Oberyn doesn't jump at the chance to fight The Mountain. Perhaps Oberyn won't be allowed to since he's a judge, but they've built that fight up all season so really hoping we eventually get to see that fight.

why is anyone assuming that the mountain coming back has anything to do with tyrion? the hound is obsessed with getting revenge against the mountain, they keep talking about that, and we know that they just heard reports about the hound running wild.

the mountain is back because he is going to face the hound, it just wouldn't make sense to be anything else.

Just because he can select Jamie doesn't mean he has to accept, and with the conversation they had, Tywin would know he wouldn't accept. Again, he's the heir so Tywin wouldn't risk him.

True, and they show the Hound and Arya in the preview as well so it could be part of that storyline.

edit: watching the preview again, the Mountain isn't shown in the castle, but rather killing civilians in what looks to be a poor area so I'm not thinking he'll be the champion. He'll probably run into the Hound, and that would be an epic battle.

Perhaps this is the case, but the way the previews went:
Shows Jamie telling Tyrion he "threw his life away" and Tyrion saying "don't give up on me yet" and then immediately showing The Mountain killing some dude begging for mercy, just seemed like it was tied together. The preview then jumps to Daenerys and her story and then they show Arya and The Hound talking. Perhaps they're trying to throw the viewers off, but so far the editing team/director really haven't been known to do that.

If you've read the books and are just spoiling things for us, then thanks for that, but if that's just your theory then I'd love to hear what led you to that(curious to know what clues I've missed). Seems like they've REALLY pushed Oberyn's vendetta as a main point of emphasis for this season. Hoping you're wrong because I don't want The Hound dead(love the chemistry with Arya) and I would hope they wouldn't spend so much time on Oberyn's past with The Mountain and then never have them actually fight. Would be a complete waste of a build up.

Moving on from the trial by combat speculation...

anyone have any guesses as to who Dany sends Daario after first?

any chance of Theon becoming un-Reeked? they fucked that dude up bad, man.

I feel pretty bad for Sansa, no matter what the poor girl can't seem to catch a break. I can't wait to see how Arya and the Hound will tie into that story line once (if) they reach the Vale.

Also, wtf is up with Theon's sister abandoning him? I know that he's been psychologically traumatized and whatnot but I think she still had like three dudes on her side right? I'd think that four of them, in armor and with axes, shields, and swords shouldn't really have too much trouble with a dog or two. And Ramsay just let them go? He didn't even let the dogs out to chase them or anything?

Yeah I wonder if in the books the whole conversion of Theon to Reek took longer, because in the show it seemed like he was completely mentally broken in like 2 weeks, seemed a bit rushed. Made him seem like a really weak-minded character when before he didn't seem to lack in the self-confidence department.
