Painter made comments to me before about how the Lowe coaching staff was all about Tracy, so it didn't surprise me when he transferred. His was a playing time issue as well if you ask me 1/23/2013 10:53:34 AM |

Yeah...Painter definitely left because of Playing time. You think as a top 75 recruit that you'll at least be starting by your senior year. He knew Howell and CJL were going to be beasts...as well as Warren coming in and getting a lot of minutes.
He thought he was going to be able to go to ODU and put up monster numbers...maybe get a better shot at the NBA (lulz). Hopefully he can make some money in Europe one day. 1/23/2013 10:56:43 AM |

We have a group of relatively young, immature athletes. We need a consistent leader who can become the coach on the floor at all times.
When things go wrong, we don't have anyone that is willing to bring everyone together on the court and rally. Instead, when things go wrong, we have kids on the court with their hands up wondering what happened!?
We need an emotional leader that can instantly lift up everyone else.
Personally, I really did not mind the in-game coaching last night. Gottfried did exactly what I expected and switched to zone defense when Wake started to rally. It was relatively effective except for Vandenberg losing his assignment 3 straight times in the middle. However, I did not like that we didn't pressure the Wake backcourt at all until 5 minutes left in the game. I think we could have nipped their rally in the bud if we had made a switch sooner.
Overall, I don't think we have a poor in-game coaching issue...I think we have a mental block of confidence that is preventing the team from gelling together and living up to the full potential that we collectively have as one of the most athletic and talented teams in the ACC.
Those are things that aren't done in-game, and yes, is ultimately the responsibility of the staff to instill. I just think that maturity has a lot to do with it. 1/23/2013 11:02:07 AM |

Seriously guys? He's coaching a team of head cases (talented head cases, but head cases none the less) left for him by the previous coach. 2 years ago, this same core finished next to last in the ACC and never sniffed the top 25. Our last two losses are on the boneheaded mistakes of players he didn't recruit. I mean, he's not John Wooden but it's way to early to start throwing him under the bus.

Painter and TDT both used the "sick family member" excuse, but they xferred for playing time.
Gottfried has his own problems but the inability to keep anyone who doesnt have a guaranteed starting role the next season is a major program issue that goes beyond the HC. Josh Davis leaving after his freshman year...wtf? It's like unless you're UNC/UK/Duke you arent allowed to have a bench
Makes me a big fan of CJ Williams in retrospect 1/23/2013 11:21:21 AM |

I dont think anyone is throwing him under the bus. I also can't blame anyone for looking at some of our performances this year and starting to think this is a trend rather than a one game problem. That has to in part go back to the coaching. 1/23/2013 11:21:48 AM |

Lowe's player presented some challenges but I'd rather have damaged goods than no goods at all.
And the two players involved in this are Gott recruits

definitely not throwing Gott under the bus. I love coach Gott. and you're probably right about the mental cases.
So much perspective gets lost in defeat.
FACTS: We are 15-4. We've lost two games by a combined 3 points. We lost by 7 at #2 Michigan. We beat #1 duke. We are going to be a NCAA Tournament team.

I think people are mostly concerned that since we've been so inconsistent that we might end up blowing a first round game at the acct/ncaat, shattering our dreams for the season. 1/23/2013 11:35:03 AM |

I think I am more concerned right now that that the loses are going to continue coming and this team is going to fall apart and may end up on the bubble. We could legitimately lose the next four and if we play like we have the last three we will. I expected five or six loses possibly but that was by the end of ACC play not after 10 games. Anything more than five or six ACC losses is a disaster of a season based on our talent and the strength of the league.

-missed free throws -missed dunks/layups -stupid turnovers -horrible call/no-calls -Wood in a shooting slump
Give me a break. I'm not saying Gott is free of blame (our horrible defense), but to say this is all because of a "terrible coach" is a bitch move. 1/23/2013 2:29:26 PM |

So long as we can string together another few wins. What is bad is if we keep playing like we have the last 3 games that is quickly going to become 15-8 (4-6) and that is gonna look very bad. 1/23/2013 3:10:43 PM |

IF we win, it'll mean that we've snapped a 13 game losing streak against our biggest rival and I, like all Pack fans, will be elated. It will also add to the fact that Gottfried has our team in the best position it's been over the past 25 years, both in the present and looking into the future. 1/25/2013 9:17:44 AM |

This. Everyone remotely concerned read this again. Gottfried isn't perfect, but you can't lose sight of these just because we are slumping. Lots of season left.
My only complaint would be that we play to the level of our opponent every game, which is frustrating, but also translates into big wins and some stupid losses (we have targets on our back this year, that comes with the territory). A shift forward from this classic NCSU culture, into a consistent disciplined team night in and night out would be more than welcomed. If you step back, we are improving year over year in just about every facet that you could possibly ask for and are trending back into relevance and a winning culture.
UNC is about to experience a team that now has a chip on it's shoulder. I am predicting a big win for our program Saturday, which could/will get us back on track mentally.

NCSU has traditionally put up a strong fight against UNC regardless of sport. Regardless of what people are saying about them after UMD or WF, I'm sure they'll put up their A-game. My main concern is a post-victory hangover. When I've seen NCSU play at their best this year they easily stand toe-to-toe with anyone else I've seen. 1/26/2013 2:37:31 AM |
