I'm a huge fan of spinning. I teach two spin classes a week and love to watch folks get hooked.

Ya I call it spinning I've been hooked from 4 years ago. but Really been spinning for 2.5 year total b/c of breaks and injuries.
I go 4 times a week and weight lift after

we get a nice discount at the washington sports clubs around here and i'm thinking about adding the membership and getting back into spin classes. i really enjoyed them when i did them before.

What do y'all pay for gym access? I'm considering changing gyms, but mine is a great deal, and I'm on the fence.
My current situation: I pay $24 a month for a 24-hour gym that offers decent zumba and spin classes, but is 10 miles from my house and is 30 miles from my office.
I also have access to a fitness facility at the country club by my house. No classes, but basic cardio and weight equipment. No frills, but fine for weekends. Very convenient.
Considering: Thinking of quitting the $24 gym to join one that's right beside my office. It's $35 per month, with a 12-month minimum. Since I'm a contractor, that's a bit risky, but it would be nice to go straight to the gym after work. It's not a major chain, but it has great classes.
Wondering if there are any chains right now that are offering great deals that would be in line with those rates? I could deal with something more expensive if the amenities are awesome.
Would love to see what other folks are paying.

it's rad.
unless i go in the afternoon. and it's hot. fuck that noise.

tweaked my good knee last week though.
i'm made of glass.
i need new shoes though, i estimate >500 miles on the current pair of brooks, and am beginning to wonder if it might be a contributing factor.
still hurts when i run, but it's nothing that's unbearable.
got a 8k warrior dashy type thing on the beach next month, so we'll see how that works out. im planning on a lot of breaks, not up to more than 2 miles in a clip yet.
however, with running on off days and lifting a lot (lots o' squats on starting strength) and not sleeping well i think i've kinda taxed the recovery system and need to start incorporating some less stressful cardio. i guess. im just trying to not embarrass myself at that race.

go in this succession: - side lifts - side lift hold - side lift kick the leg straight out - side lift kick the leg back - leg back and hold - leg back with leg curl
do both sides and you too might not be able to go up and down stairs the next day

Someone asked me to post if I figured anything out regarding my hip issues. I went to PT for the first time today and he said I had a pretty significant anterior pelvic rotation. A corrective exercise and a few strengthening exercises later, I'm pretty hopeful that this has been causing the deeper issues I've been dealing with lately. I have a few more appointments to see how it's helping, and in the meantime I've been asked not to run ... which is fine because I don't like running anyway.
I think the hip flexor stuff that has always bothered me is a separate issue, but one I can more easily deal with. So I'm not sure if this is helpful at all because I think the person who asked was just dealing with hip flexor issues. But I said I'd update. 8/17/2011 2:05:02 PM |

That's all the PT diagnosed? That's pretty weak.
That's like you going in to see a doctor and him saying: Oh you have a runny nose and sore throat. He simply reiterated the symptoms.
Anterior pelvic tilt is generally overactive hip flexors and/or weak glutes.

I didn't type out everything he told me because (from what I understand considering my limited knowledge of anatomy) the tilt was the cause for my pain, and the other issues were just what caused the tilt. So just wanted to say what the root of the pain was, because obviously the cause of the tilt would be different for anyone, or at least need to be diagnosed individually. But my right leg is a good bit weaker (which he said was weird given my pelvis was broken on the left side) and one side of my hip flexors is a lot tighter than the other.
I have a desk job, so yes, I sit a lot. And no, I am not a chronic runner. I do run some, but haven't been much at all the last few months. That was after the pain started though, and I was running more when it did.

I dont really watch the scale but today was the first time I had gotten on.

I feel like I have to go by the scale. I've hovered around the same weight (+/- 5 lbs) for the past 5 or 6 years that I kind of half to go by the scale to know if there's any difference. I typically pay attention to the scale, as well as how my pants fit. Though I feel as though my body shape has changed drastically with age and changes in activity levels. Would be interested to see how body shape changes with age ... may start measuring. 8/18/2011 10:02:42 AM |

mine is comfy, but the strap to the chest talks to the strap on my wrist... I don't like having things on my wrists b/c it gets all sweaty so i usually strap it to my bike.

I'm trying out this program where you maintain a fairly low heart rate while running to build an aerobic base. I'm not sure.... it's extremely difficult to run that slow and I'm well beyond the point where walking would be more efficient. But we'll see.

I'm training much differently - still doing HIIT/intervals. HIIT is very much a mental exercise, though. You can trick yourself into thinking you're doing 100% when you're actually doing 80-90%. In that way, having a HRM would be helpful, as my goal would be to hit 90-95% of VO2max every time I sprint.8/18/2011 2:25:54 PM |
