there were also plenty of bodybuilders that ate really clean all the time but just ate a ton of food and got really heavy during their bulking phases. I remember reading that the Mentzer brothers would both bulk up to almost 300 pounds before going back on a diet to get around 230-250. Both of those brothers died young, along with the people that trained with them. The heart doesn't see much difference between fat and muscle - it just see a hell of a lot longer path it has to pump blood through. A lot of bodybuilders don't bother to do as much cardio as they should or never get above a good fat burning heart rate when they do it, so their arterial health doesn't match their muscular fitness.

the people that live the longest in life are the people that eat the least.

That makes a lot of sense. I guess it's about the equilibrium between eating healthy, eating the right amount, and getting the cardio in. I just don't think being in shape or burning a lot of calories should be an excuse for eating unhealthy.

This is true. Animals with the slowest metabolism live the longest. Calorie restrictive diets have been linked to longevity.

My LDL cholesterol as of 2 weeks ago was fine. I appreciate your concern but its nothing i have not heard before. Doc didn't see anything wrong. He said all his patients should be so lucky. The after life isnt so bad worst case right ?

As a side note what kind of hike burns 5000 calories? To me that sounds outrageous!

Yeah i'm jealous. My mom's side of the family has a history of high cholesterol so i've always watched it.

Outrageous? Not at all. I meant my entire day probably burned 5000 calories. You hike for 6-8 hours and that's an easy 3000-4000 calories. If i add my BMR plus a run on top of that i've easily got 5000 calories.

Google "calorie calculator" and you can put in various activities and it gives you an estimate on how many calories that activity burns.

http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

That one's an example. Can even calculate your calorie burn from foreplay and intercourse! haha.

Most chain restaurants are practically a complete loss for healthy eating. Even the salads tend to have breaded chicken, a bunch of croutons, or some fatty dressing that send the calories soaring.

I always get dressings on the side. Dip your fork in it before you take a bit and you end up using about half the amount you would if you poured it out.

now i'm getting depressed because if i want to live longer i should stop exercising more than 30 minutes a day so i don't eat anything. heh. Atleast according to calorie restrictive studies.

Ran five miles Friday afternoon, destroyed my upper body in the weight room Saturday, went swimming Sunday, running another five or six miles today, then weights and spin class tomorrow night. Cross-training with basketball or beach volleyball on Wednesdays, then spinning or swimming on Thursdays. Feels great to finally be settling into a routine where I'm working out in some fashion every day.

I'll be in Raleigh 8/20 through 8/24. Does anyone want to work out? I'm planning to run at Lake Johnson or Umstead Park a couple of times during my visit.

I do like Charlotte better in general but you gotta give it to Raleigh. There's some pretty cool parks close by.

I've never really explored Charlotte. Been there twice, but not long enough to explore the parks.

Super psyched for Raleigh. Ready for some golf at Knight's Play!

a. my schjool scedule is crazy. i ususally dont eat until 1ish and then again at 7ish, which isnt the really bad part...
b. my tmj has done a number on my jaw. and headaches. i tried chewing some steamed broccolli tonight and almost started crying in the first 10 minutes or so. i had some chicken in there too, took me like an hour to eat. i may be bound to soups for the next 2 weeks or so

I play video games while on the treadmill at the house. It helps to break up the monotony. Playing a sport is another good alternative.

do you enjoy weight lifting? google/youtube "Tabata intervals" and "barbell complexes". Once you understand the protocol you can construct your own variation
