No, just joined during our Sweet 16 run. If you took away my Sports Talk posts, I'd only average about 10 per day. Used to be higher, it lowers every day now.

The person I was going to hire today, that didn't bother to call to tell me she would not be able to attend our meeting. I set this meeting up around her schedule (she's awesome at what she does and I wanted her here) and it was well outside of my "normal" hours (flex time).

Just got back from participating in a focus group on workplace annoyances with a specific focus on teamwork issues. Should be interesting to see the results of their study.

I've noticed this recently. People using 'bandwidth' to mean the resources/time/energy or whatever. But generally speaking I hate the buzzwords that make their way around, just say it in plain English.

My deskmate. He's always talking to me and interrupting my work. And since we're on the same project he's not getting his stuff done either, which puts me behind even more.

Some women never grow out of it (which is my workplace annoyance).

That's the best time to be at work, I'm most productive when certain people are out.

No, but one guy at the focus group did say everyone likes a circle jerk, and the facilitator desperately tried to get him to explain that term to her, and his continued refusal only made her try harder. It was a little surreal in an otherwise very formalized research setting.

The woman in the cube next to me just murmurs into her phone all day, complaining and whining about something. Just under her breath, enough that I can catch the occasional word but not all of it.

I wish she would just shut the hell up.

It's next Friday. He shouldn't have plans because he's supposed to be wheelchair bound and unable to leave the house. There should be no reasonable excuse. And I literally have a wide open week next week for this kind of stuff.

I hate when that happens. Last Friday I had someone try to schedule a 4:30pm meeting when they know damn well that I'm usually out the door by 3:30pm every day. If it had been any other day of the week I probably would have said screw it and logged overtime to stay for the meeting but I just wasn't in the mood for it last week.

coworker just came up to me:

Her: So you're gonna be here on Friday right?
Me: You can't drop these bombs on me on a Monday morning!!!!!
Her: Well I'm having a yard sale in 2 weeks and I just don't have time on the weekends to do anything so I need to take the day off.

lol wtf how hard can it be to throw a bunch of junk on your front yard and sell it to people? I know whenever I've done a yard sale I didn't take a day off of work as a result.

Well apparently it takes two weeks to prepare and at least one of those days during those two weeks will require an entire day off work.

She could at least take a Monday off and not Friday.

We have double logs on Fridays so things are always a shit storm, and now we're in the political season so things can get nuts.

UGH

Anyone here use Qualtrics? We just started using it in my office and I love that it has skip logic and what not built in. But now I have people that will take a survey and then send me a bitchy email when their answers to the demographic questions make them ineligible for the rest of the survey.

If I asked off on a Friday, or any day for that matter, for something like that my boss would laugh at me and assume it was a joke. It's hard enough to get a Friday off for a legitimate reason. I am not sure who grants people days off where you work, but you have that person to blame as to why people think it's fine and dandy to pull things like that.

I have vacation days, I guess it depends on the job and size of the company. If I miss a day it makes a difference most of the time so taking vacation days for something like getting ready for a yard sale isn't something I would do or even ask. Like Diva said if you just need a day to get ready for that then take a Wednesday or something not a day when you know is more busy than other days.

Agreed but again she is prepping for a yard sale in two weeks. Dicking over the rest of your coworkers for something like that is pretty shitty. If she was going to the beach for the weekend then yes three day weekend and no one will argue.

I could understand if you had a huge deadline one Friday a quarter, but if I had to do XYZ every single Friday, then yeah, I'd pretty much take off Friday with no hesitation even if I just wanted a break to prepare for a yardsale.

I get what you are saying my job is that way at least in my bosses head. Friday is always our "busy" day so getting Friday's off are always harder. I just try to let my boss know what days I would like off and what days I need off. If I am scheduling a vacation then those are days I need off and if one is a Friday then he will just have to suck it up. If I am trying to take off the day to watch the NCAA tournament I let him know I want that day off and if things arent too crazy he will let me leave.

Sure, I would love to just say it doesnt matter what I am doing I have X amount of days left this year I should be able to take them for whatever I want. However, I also know the difference between really needing a day off and just wanting to take one because of some stupid reason. To each their own I suppose I cant really argue if that is your company's policy for days, but as we have seen it doesn't exactly create a happy work environment.
