Went to trophy last night. Thoroughly enjoyed their stout, peanut beer concoction, and their pale ale.

If you're looking for beers to represent NC, I'm personally partial to Mother Earth, Highland, Lonerider, Red Oak, Oskar Blues. Easily available in bottles or cans and you don't have to buy any expensive limited release stuff to impress.

holy christ... Brewvival kicked my ass.

it poured down rain the entire time, it became a muddy mess, but it was a fantastic time. It will be a festival to remember because of that. Some great showings, I can't even been to recount all of the great beers I was able to have. Will make a lengthy post to at least try tomorrow.

so much beer. so much beer.

Don't forget Duck-Rabbit. One of the best NC breweries in my opinion. Foothills makes some good brews also.

Rye on Rye went to heavy on the bourbon for me. At that point I would rather just have a glass of bourbon.

At dinner last night, I had this guy: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26850/85986 Russian imperial stout aged in Pappy van Winkle bourbon barrels. Really roasted, really smokey, and totally delicious. Man, that was good, and my wife couldn't stand it. She had the Beachwood Jean Quad Van Damme (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25959/90378), which was actually also really good.

Both of the beers we had were on draft at the restaurant, and it was pretty reasonable for LA prices, all things considered; I think they charged $9 for a 12-oz glass of the Against the Grain stout.

I really enjoyed Wedge brewing in Asheville on my last visit. I bought 3 bottles of Pisgah and they were all really disappointing. The Valdez was a bad batch and was poured immediately. Baptista tasted like cough syrup. And the pale ale was just okay. Maybe, they just haven't figured out bottling, but I probably won't be buying any more of their stuff.

We went to Wedge, Green Man, and Wicked Weed yesterday. Hit up Tupelo Honey for dinner and Barleys as a pit stop. I was really impressed with Wicked Weed, but Wedge might've been my favorite

Oskar Blues, Highland, and maybe French Broad and Pisgah are on the list for today. Gonna try fitting in some hiking too. Asheville is such a cool town

Jeepin4x4 made the trip out last night too

Oskar Blues has a really awesome facility.

great weekend all around.

Brought back a couple growlers from WW. It's a very cool place, but the Tap Room and Bar/Restaurant are considered two separate entities. So the Tap Room didn't open until 2pm (Sunday) and thus we weren't able to get growlers of a lot of their specialty stuff. But no big deal, just another reason to go back.

what was awesome is that 90% of those bottles were from one person. and he didn't ask for anything in return, it was something he wanted to do and set it all up. it was kept pretty low profile so everyone got to try as much as they wanted.

finished the lineup off with 10,11,12,13 La Folie.

i'm still a big fan of 12. the sour notes dropped in 11 and 10 was a big vinegar bomb (not that that's a bad thing)

yea, they say it's best fresh, considering New Belgium ages it for you then pastuerizes it, not the same cellaring it like it was with the old hand bottled C&C la folie (pre-09), good to know, maybe i'll have my 12/13 soon

Brawley's 4th Annual Black & Blue beer festival tonight to kick off CLT Craft Beer Week.

i drank way too much last year and got sick. going to pace myself this time around. There are some great beers in the lineup and a few new NC brewery entries i'm excited about. best local festival IMO.

The lady is out of town today and I'm heading to the Beer Exchange to load up on growlers and bottles. Going to plop my lazy ass on the couch and watch basketball all fucking day. ECSTATIC!!!

Any recommendations on what to get from the growler station?? Here are the offerings:

Victory Swing Session Saison
Thirsty Dog Bourbon Barrel Aged Siberian Night
Bells Winter White Ale
COAST Session IPA
Brooklyn Dry Irish Stout *St Patricks Special Sale & Free Glass*
New Belgium Cascara Quad
New Belgium Heavenly Feijoa Tripel
New Belgium Shift Pale Lager
New Belgium Rampant Imperial IPA

Pretty heavy New Belgium offering...never seen that. Leaning towards the Dry Irish Stout for some holiday cheer, possible the Winter White, and the Thirsty Dog. What say you? (I have multiple 64 and 32oz growlers...so there are many options).

personally don't see much appeal in filling a growler of something readily available to me in bottles, so I'd be looking primarily at the Coast - I don't live in Charleston though

CBX website shows that they have the Coast oyster stout in bottles, looks good

picked up a couple 750 sah-tea's last night on sale for 8 bucks a piece. I love taylor's bait and wine up off six forks! Also got some Oscar Blues G’Knight Imperial Red IPA and Deviant Dale’s IPA. The G'Knight is amazing- not overly impressed with the Daviant

I like being forced to drink too much of a single style of beer

in all honesty, I haven't finished a growler in years- always end up pouring some out in the end

Cheaper?

I get the lighter stuff (no stouts, porters or double IPAs) in a regular sized growler and fill up my mini-sized growlers with the stuff I can only handle 2 or 3 of. I rarely try to take down a big growler on my own and usually split it with the lady.
