phone did the same delayed lock using nav this morning. And something was all sorts of wonky with the turn by turn voice directions. The map was correct but the voice said "continue on I40 for 22 miles" when I was still about 10 min from even being on 40 and told me to turn on highway 54 when I hadn't even gotten to Durham. Went to the verizon store and they claimed no one had reported any gps issues. And apparently there is a slight difference in the design of the top of my car charger compared to the one they're selling now that is causing it not to fit tightly.

GPS is working beautifully for me so far. There have been a couple instances where it took 1-2 minutes to get a lock after being turned back on, but no biggie

Was it just me or does the screen on the fascinate seem more pixelated than others? I just felt like I could see each individual pixel whereas I can't on the X.

Which kinda sucks because I really liked the way it felt in hand. Damn being wishy washy.

I have a Vibrant, the screen on it blows the fucking X out of the water. My colleague, who owns an X also agrees to this. There is NO way the X has a better screen/color.

yeah, I definitely haven't noticed any pixelation on the Fascinate and as stated above, it looks a shitton better than the X.

Maybe I need to compare again or this fascinate was screwy, but it definitely wasn't a shitton better.

Samsung is aware of the GPS issues and have said they were working on a fix for their other Galaxy S phones. I'd imagine they just work it into 2.2 since they're supposedly going to have that done soon.

^^FWIW xda found a way to improve GPS functionality (not completely fix the issue) on the Vibrant and Captivate. I think it works on the Epic and should work on the Fascinate too.

Don't bother with the task killer, they typically do more harm than good. Try JuiceDefender.

^yep. The task killer isn't going to help, it is going to hurt you. Read up on how android works and you'll figure this out (I, too, used to use a task killer)

I flashed the gps fix on my Vibrant (not the entire leaked rom), and can confirm my gps is great now. Can lock on about 8 birds in matter of seconds, approximately 20 foot accuracy. Before it was 1 lock and abysmal accuracy.

there are reasons to use a task killer, but the way most people use them will only hurt you. Killing off bloatware that isn't actually running uses more energy than doing nothing. Killing off a buggy program that is actually running in the background when it shouldn't will help. If you use one, you should probably use one that shows whether it's actually drawing CPU cycles.

the EVO just isn't a phone that's going to have great battery life. 65nm Snapdragons aren't the most energy efficient processors out there.

^yeh, but the average user won't figure that out/know it, so it's best to tell them to leave task killers alone.

Does anyone use Good for Enterprise to sync with corporate mail?

That's what everyone here has to use for their mobile email if they don't use BES. BES is pretty much the only thing good about a BB keeping me from throwing it our the window.

Motorola does the same thing.

I'm pretty sure nothing useful comes from these that can't be taken directly from the stock ROMs on the phone. If there was the DX would be a lot further along by now.

http://phandroid.com/2010/09/16/android-enterprise-is-it-good-enough/

Quote :
"Consumers have been more than happy with the wide array of Android options on their carrier of choice, but what about business folks? The vast majority still cling to their BlackBerry and a percentage have made the leap into Apple’s secure arms, but the open nature of Android has left most IT Managers to nervous to rely on the OS. Good Technology is trying to change all that.

good-droid

Verizon Wireless announced that they’ve partnered with Good Technology to provide enterprise-ready devices that provides custom services such as tracking and remotely wiping phones of employees. The company also claims to have improved e-mail management, calendar options, contact communications, and data encryptions.

Most of what we discuss on Phandroid is consumer focused but B2B represents a significant chunk of pie and the battle for the business dollar is just getting started in the mobile world. BlackBerry is the standard and iPhone is making a charge, but is Android the dark horse that will eventually come from behind and take the lead? Take a look at the Good Technology’s Android PDF Overview and judge for yourself.

I think its quite possible and this can be attributed yet again to Android’s Open Nature. Rather than have apps on a secure phone, IT Managers could have Android Applications developed specifically around the needs of their employees and company. Different companies have different goals and if you can solve an occupational problem/challenge in an effective, safe, and secure way then why not?

I think that’s a good question to end on. Android and the Enterprise – is it good now? Will it be the “go to” platform for Enterprise in the future? Why… or why not?

Here's a question: why does the browser reload the page when I switch to another app and back?

Oftentimes I will be reading an article, switch to something else, come back later without a connection.... the browser tries to reload and I get a page not found.

There are useful things in there, but typically it's just the stock rom or test releases you'll find on there.

^^^ Another phone will need to be activated on the other to free up the ESN, otherwise the system isn't going to let you put it on another line.

As for a case, I got the holster/case combo from verizon and it's decent. It has a hard shell that protects the back and sides of the phone and a belt clip part that you can use also.

I've really liked the soft touch hard covers that companies like Seidio make, but those usually take a month or so to make it to market.

Also, will need a Realook or Steinheil screen protector. I'm paranoid like that...
