Like 30 wildlings climbed the wall.

The wildling army is 100,000 strong, they didn't all climb the wall. The main army is going to attack the wall gates while theoretically the small wildling group could harass them from the south so that they can't focus their attention entirely on the wall defense.

Other than reading the book how do you people know they are going to have this epic attack?

Mance tells them that's what the raiding party is going over the Wall to do

He even says he'll "light the biggest fire the North has ever seen" to signal them on the Wall

Though this was before they climbed it last season, so that was a relatively long time ago on the show

they'll probably show it on the "previously on GoT" segment before the next episode

Yea i mean I think multiple characters have straight up verbalized this in expository dialogue may times.

I'm guessing battle because neil marshall is the director of the next episode. He directed the blackwater bay episode as well as multiple films that feature bloody battling

i really hate the daenerys character now, not just because of her pretentious attidude on the show but the fact she came out and she said no more nudity.

If you read the books you'd hate the actor more, that character more than any other in this show uses nudity to get what she wants.

It was ok tonight, but annoyed they cut it 8 minutes short to make a cliff hanger....Not as epic as blackwater at all to me

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of this episode. Hope they saved some action for the next one rather than making it just a bunch of wrap ups til next year.

Yep I was expecting something epic tonight, which we didn't see. Well if they don't do some crazy stuff next episode they will have a pretty annoyed fan base I'd guess. This is I think the third episode this season that wasn't an hour long either which makes no sense.

I thought the episode was well done, some of the camera shots were great.

Next week should be awesome if they tie everything up from book three like I think they will

the runtime for HBO hour long shows is almost always about 52-56 minutes. The longest one this season so far has been 59 minutes, and 1 at 57, every other one has been 52-56

My main concern is the imp's survival; but I'm very happy that they stuck w/ one location tonight.

I get tired of the usual five separate locations that are typical of each episode.

I really thought Jon Snow was a goner tonight. Also was happy that Sam is still around. I like that fat bastard.

I think I was supposed to be sad about Ygritte, but mostly I was happy that Pyp had been avenged.

I want someone to count all the night's watchmen who died, because supposedly they only had 100, and I feel pretty sure between all the ones who died at the top of the wall, the ones Ygrette killed, the ones Tormund killed, the ones the Thenns killed, and the 6 in the tunnel, there are now like negative 30 people left at Castle Black.

Glad Ygritte is gone... She would have never lasted that long in actuality. She was out in the open way too many times and it finally caught up to her.

I don't know. This battle episode seemed much better to me. During Blackwater, Tyrion was the only one I cared about (and Bronn to an extent). This one had more interesting characters and story-lines woven into the fighting. The entire thing was intense and actually made me care about the Knights Watch again -- even if the episode as a whole felt short.

Plus, holy shit, a giant riding a wooly mammoth. That's some badassness

I was bored most of the episode. Parts of the battle I would get excited, but overall bored. It was no Blackwater.

I never was a fan of the blackwater battle. Or at least the things that happened on land.

I agree that there were more characters in this battle where you had sub plots within the battle. Made it more interesting but overall following them makes the battle take forever. Im not sure it takes that long for that few of people to die in that kind of fight.

GREAT shots and visuals of it to give the audience perspective on where the attacks were coming from in relation to the entire battle.

book talk

I dont know if its ok to discuss the book in this thread but there were more than 100 in the book due to reinforcements. They haven't really touched on the fact that there are more crows at the other two castles than just at castle black. Disappointing they haven't. It gives a lot of context to the broader world.

Why not? This is a show about a book. The episode was rather yawn worthy, book was by far better.

But this next episode, you will be shitting bricks by the end of it.

Needed more direwolf! The part when Sam finally unlocked the door and was like "We need you, boy!" I was thinking "awww yeah now shit's really gonna hit the fan" but Ghost killed like one guy and that was it. I'd have thought they would have let him out as soon as the wildlings breached the gate.

When the giant shot his big ass arrow and sent that dude flying - it didn't matter what else happened in this episode.

Lol, yeah. When the first non-giant archer walked up with a bow I said, out loud, "give me a break, no one could shoot an arrow...." then the giant walked up and showed me why they had the stupid human archer.

It's always a cock tease with getting to see the Dire Wolves fight; see Battle of the Whispering Wood: Grey Wind supposedly wrecks shop, but we never get to see it.

Then again, you never get to read about it in the books either, so its not totally CGI budget related.

Yeah supposedly Robb rides Grey Wind into battle like a horse at some point but it is never explicitly detailed in the book, just referenced by other characters.

GRRM is apparently a major supporter of Wolf sanctuaries and shit where he lives (New Mexico?). He's even got a charity drive going now where the top contributors get written into his book and killed off.

Does Mance Rayder know at this point that Jon Snow is back fighting for the Night's Watch?

I would think no, since they were using the gigantic fire as a means of communicating with the group that crossed the wall.

That said, with various folks having the ability to possess animals and whatnot, who knows what someone close to Mance could have seen? My guess would be that he wouldn't inherently know, but he'd be immediately suspicious with Jon back across the wall. Plus, wasn't he wearing the black when he left?

Why didn't the wildlings attempt to take out the elevator operator? If I were one of the wildlings, I would've tried to take it out first thing.

Mance Raydar is the king of the wildlings. He was in a few episodes when Jon Snow joined the wildling army.

^^He was the older guy that said he was going to light "the biggest fire the North has ever seen" or something to that effect. They showed him in the recap before the last episode.

As far as the Wildlings and the elevator, I wonder if they even knew the elevator was there? Can't imagine they had a ton of inside information about Castle Black or had even seen an elevator before.
