Quote : | "Original Xbox games coming to Live Marketplace Downloadable back catalog tied to celebration that includes free Carcassonne download, new features set for December 4 firmware update. By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot Posted Nov 13, 2007 4:11 pm PT
The Xbox 360 already plays a selection of original Xbox games with its backward-compatibility feature, but soon gamers won't even need a disc to boot games like Halo, Fable, Psychonauts, and Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge. In conjunction with its ongoing celebration of the fifth anniversary of Xbox Live, Microsoft today announced that it will be selling those four games, among others, for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace early next month.
Calling the program Xbox Originals, Microsoft will sell the games for 1,200 Microsoft points ($15) each, and the company is promising to expand the number of games offered over the coming year. A Microsoft representative had not responded to a request for comment on whether these games would have their original online features intact, or if Xbox Live support would be added into previously offline-only games, such as Halo. Xbox Originals will debut on December 4, and will be part of a firmware update that will also include new parental-control options.
That isn't the only news Microsoft has to celebrate the anniversary of Xbox Live. The company has also announced that it will allow Xbox Live users worldwide to download a free game. For 48 hours beginning 12:01 a.m. Eastern time on November 15, members in Korea will be able to download Hexic 2 for free, whereas the rest of the world can grab the board game Carcassonne at no charge.
Microsoft is also offering a token of appreciation to longtime Live users. The company will deposit 500 Microsoft points ($6.25) into the account of every Xbox Live member who joined the service in 2002, the year it first launched.
Update:
Microsoft Australia has confirmed that although the Xbox Originals service will launch in Australia at the same 1,200 Microsoft point cost on December 4, gamers down under will not receive the bonus 500 points being given away to active Xbox Live subscribers. A representative for the company explained this was due to the later launch date of the Xbox console in Australia, meaning the five year anniversary will not coincide with the North American promotion. The representative was unable to confirm whether the promotion would be offered when the fifth anniversary does occur in Australia in late April next year.
UK Update:
Microsoft Europe, however, confirmed that the offer is good for European Xbox Live users, who hold Gold membership and have been active since launch. " |

id suggest one of those two 11/15/2007 1:52:50 AM |

^^ Matters on the gameplay you want. Realistic FPS, definitely COD4.
Crazy off the wall FPS + a few solid games = Orange Box
RPG (didn't see this mentioned) = Mass Effect
Do NOT purchase Assassin's Creed. I haven't played it yet, but 99% of reviews are saying Rental only
And can you believe that EB is only offering $18 for Bioshock ALREADY? That's a fucking rip off 11/15/2007 7:50:21 AM |

i highly recommend COD4...i had orange box, its good but COD4 is way better IMO...i think the multiplayer is way better and more advanced and fun then TF...plus, its like the best looking game, one of them if youre on HDTV 11/15/2007 9:51:45 AM |

noob question. When playing a game like halo 3 how can others look and tell that someone has a "slow" connection or what not. I will play a laggy game and we are done some will start reaming another guy saying he had a slow connection. Ive heard it on other mutiplayer games too. I dont wanna be "that guy." Is there a way I can check before the level starts? 11/15/2007 10:37:05 AM |
Fry The Stubby 7784 Posts user info edit post |
if everyone one of your games seems laggy, you can about count on your connection being a problem. in-game, there is a latency meter to the right of your name on the scoreboards. glitching around due to lag is also very noticeable.
honestly, there's not much you can do about it except acknowledge it. if you have a generally fast connection like roadrunner, don't worry about it. 11/15/2007 10:40:34 AM |

Timeshift = NO the campaign demo for that was horrible. I haven't tried the new multiplayer demo yet, but there's no way it compares to TF2 or COD4.

I dunno, the city exploration thing reminds me of Spiderman 2, and I still enjoy slinging my way across NYC. Penny Arcade said there were a ton of side quests that most reviewers are missing out on.
I wish I had Gamefly for stuff like this, I still need to play Bioshock but I heard it's a definite rental.11/15/2007 1:51:51 PM |

gamefly isn't worth it in my opinion
had it for one month
first game was great, speedy delivery, top choice, everything was great
second game took 2 weeks to get to me, and was unplayable it was so scratched. It took another week for them to receive my game and "log it in", and sent a replacement which was also scratched to the point of being unplayable.
I canceled right after that. I'd rather drive to the blockbuster 5 minutes down the road and pay a bit more per month than to deal with that crap 11/15/2007 3:49:09 PM |

Is there a list of details as to what's supposed to be in the next firmware update? I thought I remember someone mentioning that it would remove the 3rd party peripheral support. I'd like to know if I could eventually expect to be able to use my X-Arcade stick with the 360 without having to go through the XFPS and PS2 adapter. 11/19/2007 11:53:37 AM |

You probably won't see them actually playing it, just the 1000 points after the fact
The whole process of inserting the game, getting the 1000 points, and ejecting the game all takes about 3 minutes.
It will have the quickest average turn around time in Gamefly history, by a wide margin. 11/19/2007 1:05:29 PM |

is there anyway/anyplace where you can exchange an [old] 360 premium (pre-hdmi) and upgrade the console to an elite (or at least to a version that has HDMI)? i don't really care for the 120 gb models, the 20 gb has worked great for me.
i thought i read somewhere recently where you can trade in and for an additional cost you could do this, but i couldn't find it.
i'm looking into upgrading my tv as well, and researching options to maximize the experience.
side question: what is the video output on the old premiums?
