Well unless the Braves sweep, then it is definitely over. Even taking 2 out of 3 against the Mess won't be good enough. Atleast if the Braves do take the series, the mess fans can't complain that they didn't have their best pitchers going. 7/28/2006 10:52:11 AM |

I'm just saying that you have to be pretty delusional if you don't think that the Mets can't beat ANY AL team in a 7 game series. Not saying they WILL but they certainly have a team that, when playing well, can. They have an AL type offense and 3 bonafide bigtime playoff pitchers. Sure they are old but they are VERY experienced.
You can go on and on about how the NL sucks but that doesn't mean there isn't a team or two capable of winning the World Series. You know how the playoffs are.

^^ So Pedro is not spectacular? Neither is Clemens or Carpenter? What about Glavine? Or Smoltz - the winningest postseason pitcher of all time. Oswalt? Anyone of those pitchers could shut down any AL lineup in the World Series.
Granted those guys might not have the stats of some of the young arms in the AL Central, but they have experience and all have been in the postseason.

^^ Who you going to take? Schilling? Liriano? Santana? If Pedro is healthy, then I'll take him over anyone the White Sox, Tigers, or Twins is sending out. Granted Santana, Liriano, Verlander can be sick at times, but there is no way to know how they'll perform under pressure. I'd put money on Pedro winning me Game 7 before I put money on the AL Central guys.
^ Fine Clemens sucked in the postseason. The White Sox were ridiculously hot which further supports NyM410's point that any team can win the World Series regardless. Nobody picked the White Sox to win last year, but there pitching was unreal and their hitting was clutch. 7/28/2006 12:58:21 PM |

i'd say there's a better chance of liriano, santana, or verlander being lights out than there is of pedro being healthy 7/28/2006 1:07:05 PM |

^^ he'll be healthy. This month off will do him worlds of good down the stretch. Plus with no real race he can get some rest in September.. which is something nearly every other team (save the Tigers at this point if they continue to build their lead) won't get the benefit of. 7/28/2006 2:52:48 PM |

I gotta give it to the Mets - they have a amazing lineup and solid bullpen. Glavine and Pedro were shaky, but that is explainable (Glavine seems to always struggle in Atlanta and Pedro was coming back from injury). I didn't want to give up hope on my Braves, but it's over now.
Atleast this Mets team is likeable unlike the Bonilla, Ventura, Piazza, Bobby Valentine, etc teams. Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Lo Duca, Delgado, Glavine, etc are great players and they all play hard. I wish the Braves weren't going to have to see that Beltran-Wright-Reyes combo for the next 6 (or however many years Beltran is signed for) years. 7/31/2006 9:46:25 AM |

I think this was a great deal for the Mets but not so much for Reyes. Had he held out and became a free agent, he certainly could have demanded Furcal $13M/season money. I guess he wanted security in case he gets hurt, but he is worth more than $6M/season.8/4/2006 12:00:52 PM |
