depends on what you're goin for- i do a little bit before to warm up, then at a completely different time of day do a real amount

if i do one before the other, i notice that the latter will suffer (if it is cardio, i will find myself draggin ass wanting to quit early (if i even do it at all), and if i do alot before i lift, i notice i can't lift as long)

It's better to lift before doing cardio.

do them at separate times. cardio is not a substitute for warming up before lifting weights, so don't bother doing it for that purpose. lift much lower than that. for bench and squats, I'll start with one set of just the bar and then 2 sets of 135, and then finally a fourth set of 225 before I jump into my work sets of 335 and 385, respectively. the purpose of warming up is to engorge your muscles with blood, not to get your heartrate up.

if you have to do them in the same workout, do cardio after lifting. that way you will have burned off more stored liver glycogen during the lifting and will be better primed for burning fat with cardio.

It's not that simple and it mostly depends on what you want to do with your body. If you want to just maintain a general level of fitness, then you can mix them both in at will and as you enjoy. If you are wanting to get a ripped beach physique, then you need to do them on different days, and your cardio needs to be of the shorter higher intensity variety.

There are many different ways to slice this, and it depends entirely on what your goals are.

how do you mean? cause i find that 10-15 minutes on some cardio machine, or a quick jog is perfect for my warm up (plus some body weight things specific to what i'm doin, like pushups for chest days, or body squats on leg days, or pull ups on back days, etc...)

I meant exactly what I said. cardio is not a form of warmup for lifting. just because you feel more limber due to the increased heart rate does not mean that your body is ready to just start pounding away at the weights. if you wish to warm up for lifting, then do so by lifting. your warmup is supposed to mimic your workout.

as far as doing pullups for a warmup, how many are you capable of doing? that's a fairly heavy exercise to jump right into doing without doing a few sets either on an assist machine or with a pulldown cable system. I can do 10 wide grip pullups with my body weight, but I would never jump into that without doing a couple sets of pulldowns first.

I find that I have to mix up my cardio between low intensity cardio for long periods of time and HIIT cardio 1-2 times per week. I can't shed body fat effectively doing just one or the other.

i mean, before every exercise i do, i do a really light weight about 15-30 times (first exercise is usually 30) just to "mimic" the exercise, as you put it

and as for pullups, i do 6 sets till failure goin wide, reg, narrow, repeat, where I'm normally able to get about 15-20 on the first set, and around 8 or so on the last set... i find that warms me up plenty for back (and actually is a good little workout in itself)

40 minutes of interval training cardio on the elliptical machine. my goal for the next week is to get in 2 40 minute sessions of cardio every day, with one session being low intensity and the other being interval training.

im going to start the night out with some ice house reps and then eventually work my way into some 151, and lets not forget some menthol lights. And for some reason I wake up 5-8 pounds lighter than I was the day before. This is usually a ritual for me and what can I say its working great for me!

45 minutes of HIIT cardio down, and I had a leg cramp as soon as I sat down in my car to go home. guess that's a sign that I need to start training hamstrings more.
