most citizens that choose a weapon for defense choose a quality piece...

you may as well buy a box of rocks to throw at someone if you are gonna waste your money on a firearm thats unreliable

you can call it reality if you want, but until you spend time around gun owners, gun shops, etc etc you have no idea what you're talking about

but go ahead and keep acting like you know gun owners and laws

but anyone that reads this thread and knows about weapons knows that you're off base with your assumptions

ps, reliable weapons can be had at an affordable price...

doesnt matter how much you know about guns, you dont know anything about logic

if the 'affordable' gun fails at a rate higher then the electronic thumb print lock, then that modification cant be criticized for unreliablilty.

You mention "personal experience" when stating that mechanical locks have "very high rates of failure." Maybe you've just had a run of bad luck and keep getting crappy guns? Can you at least site a study or some statistics to back up your claim? And what exactly do you mean by "very high rates fo failure?" Is it in your experience that mechanical locks just plain don't work at all?

im talking about making a law. mechanical locks are great, but a law would be nice.

as far as gun stats go, anyone here who has fired a gun has at least experienced one misfire or jam.

affordable does not mean unreliable

all new guns come with mechanical locks.. I think that may be a law also

yes, I've had experiences weapon malfunction... due to either shitty ammo or a shitty gun

I have the strong feeling that you have 0 experience with firearms

a Glock can be had for ~$400

it is one of the most, if not the most reliable semi-automatic firearm on the planet

a revolver... simple as it may be... is probably the most reliable action on a handgun ever made... not to mention revolvers can be found for ~$200

bolt action rifle... extremely reliable... deadly accurate ~$300

single shot rifle... extremely reliable... extremely accurate <$200

double barrel shotgun... extremely reliable $100 and up

I'd be willing to say all of these firearms above are more reliable than an electronic thumb print safety

what do you do if say... your wife, neighbor, friend, anyone else has to use your weapon but can't because of a thumb scan electronic device?

you could program multiple users, like a wife. but I would say that I dont want my neighbor to be able to use my gun. your neighbor shouldnt know where your gun is anyway. thumb print scanners probably can be made to fail less then 1 / 10,000 of the time. thats far more reliable then any gun youve listed.

ummm some folks get along with their neighbors just fine...especially outside of the city

but my point was... what are you going to do if you needed to use it and can't because it isn't yours?

yes ... murderers kill people. but permanent thumb print gun locks would reduce accidents and illegal sales.

Did anyone in this thread discuss the odds of dying in a hand gun-related accident, yet? Or compare those odds to the odds of dying in a terrorist attack?

Bullshit, cyrion! Before this country had a standing army, which hasn't been that many years, the citizen-soldiers WERE the army.

By the way, I served honorably in the 7th Cavalry of the US Army for three years--I know what the military can and can't do, do you? You obviously don't, because the military can't provide security for a landmass the size of the United States without help, which would include our allies; local, state, and federal law enforcement officers; and the armed citizenry. The last statement is true, whether you choose to believe it or not.

I'll tell you a story: A guy was just driving to work one day. Suddenly, he saw two police officers fall into the middle of the street along with another man. The guy rushed to the scene, which was about a block ahead, to see if he could help.

The guy was shocked to discover that the man the cops were trying to arrest--on involuntary commitment orders--had taken one of their guns. BAM! As the guy was running toward the officers to help, a shot went off--one officer's hand was charred and cut from the recoil and muzzle blast.

After helping the police struggle with the gunman, the guy returned to his car a few feet away to retrieve his personal weapon--a .357 Magnum. The guy put the tip of the gun barrel on the back of the gunman's head and told him not to move and to surrender the weapon. After the crack of a flashlight across his knuckles to speed compliance, the crazed gunman surrendered. And because the regular guy carried a gun, nobody died.

The guy was me.
