Who else could they have respected? It's not like Brees had many other weapons after Horn left the game.
Bush had his first good game out of twelve. Again, **one out of twelve.** For any other rookie, the other 11 middling-to-bad games still mean more to anyone who has a voice regarding this stuff. To ESPN and other ridiculous sports media outlets, one game out of twelve completely validates their pre-professional opinions of him and negates the other 11 games. 12/4/2006 8:16:20 PM |

^^ I think a lot of people would agree with you there. That doesn't mean the analysis that the other person wrote of the game was anywhere close to accurate. That's all...
^ again, that is my point. Pred25 was saying they DIDN'T do that, which they clearly did if you saw the game at all. I'm not arguing anything else from anytime this year. Just this past game..

and another point of contention I made, here and elsewhere, was that when he finallly had that big game, this exact thing would happen - that is, the people who support bush come hell or high water would come back with the gloating shit like they have a leg to stand on. the worst of these threads was deleted at saintsreport.com, it was so tacky. but there have been others.
it's like no one is allowed to offer up constructive criticism because then you're labeled a hater. Michael fucking Vick gets this exact same treatment from his loyal fans and as a Saints fan, to think that we're doing the same with Bush fucking disgusts me. Someone there posted this and I agree on all counts, this was written Oct. 31st:
Quote : | "I'm hoping things work out, but there is no evidence to suggest that Reggie will ever be what he was advertised to be, or what you, me and all other Saints fans thought he was before the season started.
He hasn't even shown a glimpse of being a great running back. He makes a six yard run and all of us fans and the announcers and everyone else act like he did something great.
Look, we all hate when other media darlings get put on a pedastal without earning it; why should it be different because this guy is a Saint? Are we hypocrites?
You figure, if Reggie is comparable to Marshall Faulk (or even Eric Metcalf, for that matter) we would have seen a glimpse by now. A peek, at least.
What have we seen? A punt return that any decent return man in the NFL could have made and some nifty catches out the backfield. But, once I stopped sipping the Kool Aide, I realized that he hasn't really done squat. By now, we should have seen something, right?
The part that bothers me is that he plays like a ninny. He's afraid to get touched, it seems. How long is he going to be allowed by the coaches to pitty-pat around the field? Especially when he is taking carries away from Deuce, who just gets better each time you give him the ball?
I'm worried about Reggie. I'm starting to think his style will never work in the NFL, and that he can't adjust his style. Time will tell, I guess, but for now I'm not drinking anymore Kool Aide." |

I think Westbrook, Tomlinson as you mentioned, and Stephen Jackson (@ StL) had better RB games, and Shaun Alexander will probably light them up in Seattle later this year. Bush's rush numbers were rather ho-hum, while Westbrook and Jackson had both solid running and receiving games.
When I saw @ NO on the 9ers schedule, the first thing I told my friends was, "Bush will have a huge game that week". All the ingredients were there: road game, dome, and a player who excels in open space going up against a defense that's slow as molasses and can't tackle (flashbacks to Marshall Faulk shredding the 9ers). 9er fans should not have been surprised at Bush's performance.

The only rookie stat Faulk and Bush compare on is Fumbles. The two shouldn't even be mentioned in the same catagory at this point.
I think Bush will be a good player, but he is always going to be a screen pass catching/diversion/reverse handoff/short pass catching/a few carries type of player(and will end up having big games against garbage defenses that can't tackle or run). A creative coach will keep Bush successful but outside that I don't think he will ever be a 22 car, 125 ypg type back. His stats will always be hurt because he will split rushing and receiving and never be at the top of either catagory, and total yards from scrimage are always an after thought to rushing yards. I don't hold it against him thought that the media is in love with him, he can't control that shit. 12/4/2006 11:37:58 PM |

i think it's pretty funny that reggie bush is such a polarizing player. most people seem to lose their sense of reason with him, one way or the other. i just can't understand why so many are trying to focus on just the negatives with him. the thing is, the dude seems like a good guy - hasn't gotten in trouble with the law, his teammates like him, he's a good citizen in his city, etc. sure, he was super-hyped before the season, but really there haven't been the grandiose "next gale sayers" speeches in a couple of months now - but it's also obvious he isn't going to be a "flop". he's gonna be a good NFL back, score some TD's, make his team's offense more effective, and potentially win some games. so what if he's not gonna be the best RB ever? so can we kill this thread?

Jesus, only like what 4 guys have ever done this...?!
And you dont think he'll average almost 6 yards a carry????
Jesus, only like NO ONE has ever done this
Look at how effective Brian Westbrook is in the NFL. He doesn't rack up rushing yards. He's more of a receiver. Is Brian Westbrook a "pro RB"?
What makes a "pro RB"? Does he have to suck like Jamal Lewis? Does he have to be a non-threat as a receiver like Rudi Johnson? Does he have to sit on the bench like TJ Duckett?

^^^actually I was just making the point that he is not going to be a guy that has "typical" RB statistics, I didnt really do the math just wrote down what a good running day would be.
I personally don't give a shit if they hand him the ball, throw it to him, roll it to him, if he then runs up the middle, around the outside, or jumps over people. If he produces yards and helps his team win then who gives a shit if he is a rb, or a wr. He will most likely be a hybrid of the two, so what does it matter how he is defined? 12/5/2006 2:08:04 PM |

Without ESPN, Bush wouldn't have so much hype
You'd think he was gonna tear the league up right out of the gates with the way they talked about him
He sputtered out of the gates (this is indisputable) and out came the "But he's just [a rookie/a good decoy/running behind a crap ol]!!" If I told the major players of sports media that Bush's biggest contributions to the Saints would go in this order:
1) asses in seats 2) decoy 3) receiver 4) punt returner 5) HOLY SHIT HE DESERVED THIS NUMBER OK IN FACT THIS IS THE REASON HE IS STRUGGLING 6) bench warmer 7) 8) 9) 10) "well, he's gonna extend Deuce's career..." 11) running back
I'd have been called everything but a child of God. Which is more or less what happened anyway, only it was the starry-eyed zombies who worship every syllable pronounced by ESPN's talking heads unless their favorite team/player isn't being spoken of favorably.
I bet Joe Horn is a better WR than he is RB... which is why he plays WR. 12/5/2006 7:00:39 PM |

spooner, I'm completely waterproof to the whole "Bush hater" shit. Please, try your call again a different angle.
I'm not a Bush hater, but one game. out of twelve. does not turn me from tempered-wonderer to giddy-as-a-high-school-girl status. This stance is validated by sports analysts saying "This is the Bush we've been waiting for all season, this is the Bush the Saints wanted to see since week one, etc." Think about it - he had a total of five good PLAYS in eleven weeks of football, then has a big game and the starry-eyed zombies that largely comprise Reggie Bush fans forgot how to fucking act. Watching you fucktards' reaction to this past game was like giving a socially awkward 16-year-old virgin some beer and a porn tape. And to think, Bush was back to doing what MADE him the great hype machine in the first place - torching weak defenses. Gee..
I mean shit, since you wanna talk about good games, Terrance "Dropper" Copper had **a** good game this season - should I be sweatin his nuts too? ^ seriously, who gives a shit? The guy is flat out ridiculous. Oh no! He didn't gain his 140 yards of offense taking handoffs and running between the tackles. He must be garbage! Personally I'm curious how he would do getting 20+ carries a game. My guess is he'd get plenty of negative yardage plays but he'd also break a few for for 25+.. We won't know until he becomes a primary back, if he does. Right now, they have THE BEST backfield in football to me..

^^ nope. still don't agree with you.
sure, he catches a ton of passes out of the backfield. but he's still a RB - he lines up behind the QB. he picks up blitzes, he takes handoffs. it would be silly for the saints to line him up wide on a regular basis as a WR, as it would be tougher for him to get the ball as frequently. word up.

I love to see him brake ankles and make plays. You people need to come off this shit, dude! It's like he has some kind of immunity to criticism around here, or for the sports world for that matter.
I think he's an outstanding player. Also a heavily over paid one for his position and role. I want to see him return some punts/ kof's and "run" the damn football like everyone claimed he would so easily do before he came to the nfl. Be the barry sanders, LT, Sayers etc they said he would be.
Since he fell way short of expectations, everyones pampering him by saying "well, look at how many recieving yards he has yada yada yada". It's terrible. We all want to see the Bush of USC, but its not going to happen at all. He's going to catch those screens and run little reverse plays, but as far as him actually running the ball...not happening. You guys need not to be in denial. Just call it like you see it.

Who is getting their panties wet? Anyone who doesn't have the same opinion as you?
You're being ridiculous. I don't think many people legitimately expected him to be challenging single season records as a rookie (though he will break the all time NFL record for receptions from a 'rb.'). As far as expectations and falling short. I disagree. I thought he would get a few more carries and obviously with more carries the added production but he has FAR exceeded my expectations as a receiving back. In the short team (last 3-4 games) there are only a handful of players performing better to me RIGHT NOW in the entire league.
Having a possession back like Deuce has allowed the Saints to be a lot more creative with Bush, which has made the team tons better. Those two must be a nightmare for a defense to gameplan. I just see a bunch of people who had unrealistic expectations and a whole lot of hate for a nice guy who gets a lot of hype..
I think you are doing the same thing as a lot of people who you disagree with. You're dislike for him is making you take things out of context. People who are saying he is doing well aren't saying he is the best thing ever. Just giving him credit when it is due...
